hello at idle i have 14.4volt if i give gas go down to 12.1 new batterie rebuilt alternator new belt thank you J.P.
My car has an automatic transmission.ford escape v6 2002
Hello - something is not right with your alternator. Unless the serpentine belt is loose (worn belt or loose tensioner) and slipping, the voltage regulator should keep the alternator charging at 14.5 volts or higher as the engine revs. It should not exceed 15 volts, but shouldn’t be dropping down to 12 volts either. I would have the alternator checked/replaced by the auto parts store that sold it to you - I think the voltage regulator is malfunctioning (the voltage regulator is an internal component to modern alternators). For assistance with this repair, I recommend a alternator replacement performed by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose this problem, and give you an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs.

2002 Ford Escape - Alternator
The alternator charges the battery and keeps the electrical accessories of the car working while it is running. When the alternator loses capacity or fails, the electrical systems will only stay on until the battery's reserve charge is depleted. Your car might die, but you may be able to restart it with a jump start. If you notice that your headlights dim or your battery won't stay fully charged, it may be time to replace your alternator or other related parts. This might include replacing the voltage regulator if it is separate from the alternator. Also, check the tension of your belts to make sure the alternator is spinning while the engine runs. Research on Alternator for Ford Escape
The charging system is one of the most important systems on any vehicle. It is made up of a number of components, including the battery and alternator. These components work together to supply all the electrical needs of a vehicle. The alternator is the part that specifically generates the electricity as well as amperage required to meet the vehicle's electrical needs, which includes keeping the battery charged. If you experience Ford Escape alternator problems, visit a certified mechanic quickly before other systems or components begin to falter.
Signs of a Failing Alternator
Here is a look at some of the signs and symptoms to watch out for if you think that your alternator may be going bad:
Jump Starting the Vehicle Frequently: One of the very first things you will notice when you have a failing or bad alternator is that you will have to jump-start your car often. If the alternator has failed or is beginning to develop problems, it will not be able to meet your car's electrical needs, and fail to ensure whether a battery is fully charged. If you need to jump start your car on a regular basis, get it to a certified professional immediately.
Flickering or Dim Lights: This is another indication that your alternator may be suffering from problems. If you notice that your lights are flickering or dim when operating your car, it may be a sign that its electrical needs are not being met because the alternator is not generating adequate power.
Strange Noises: This may seem a little vague as there are a lot of external factors that can cause strange noises in a car. However, there are times when the failure of an alternator can result in abnormalities of some bearings in the engine, thus resulting in unusual rattles. The culprit may be the alternator, especially if this symptom is accompanied by some of the other signs.
Other indications include a glowing indicator light, dead battery, and failure of other systems such as power locks, power windows, air conditioning, dashboard lights, etc. Whether you witness a 2007 Ford Escape alternator problems or any other model year, do get the problem fixed quickly before it affects other parts of your car. Make sure that you go to a certified mechanic to get your repair or replacement done right.

How to replace a Ford Escape 2002 V6 Alternator?
I just replaced one on a 2006 V6.
Had to remove passenger side tire. Then I removed the plastic wheel cover. Next I removed the serpentine belt. Next I removed the plastic alternator front cover. Now you need to remove the Aternator Plug and power cable. Remove the 8 mm bolt that holds the plastic housing for cooling the alternator and reach behind the motor and unsnap it to get it out of the way. Now remove the top stud, tacking off the nut alone won't work because the alternator won't slide off the stud. Now remove the bottom bolts 15mm. Now turn the alternator aroound so you can remove the rest of the cooling housing. Put a jack under the motor. Remove the passenger side motor mount. The alternator will come up past the fire wall in the back of the motor. I had to get it most of the way out first and the I lowwered the motor to get the rest of the way out. GOOD LUCK!!! I spent about 8 hours figuring this out.
