Chevy impala blackout edition

Chevy impala blackout edition DEFAULT

If you’re the full-sized, front-driven sedan type, bigness and comfort surely loom large on your list of automotive priorities. But those who’d like a dose of sinister with their size—some ferocity with their fluff, if you will—have historically been forced over to the rear-drive side of the fence (we refuse to believe that the Taurus SHO is sinister), or they’ve trekked to Jackie’s House of Darkened Accessories in an attempt to mute the shiny happiness of their rides. “No more!” say the men working under the auspices of Louis Chevrolet. “We’re bringing Jackie’s House to your house!” And the proof of that word pudding is right here:  the upcoming Chevy Impala Midnight Edition.

Now, before we continue we should point out that the Impala pictured above is, in fact, the Blackout Concept Chevy brought to this year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas. That sedan served as the inspiration for the Midnight Edition, which should wear a similar motif. Powered by GM’s liter, horsepower V-6, the no-performance-added Midnight Edition should bow in late spring and nominally follows Nigel Tufnel’s “none more black” dictum. According to Edmunds, the snappy galoot will feature a blacked-out grille center-punched with a black bowtie badge. Wouldn’t a Flowtie stand as an even more potent symbol of the void, a yawning paragon of the inky null? We demand nothing less than utter nihilism, GM!

Per Billy Idol, she cries “More, more, more!” in the midnight hour, and Chevy gladly serves it up with black wheels, a black rear spoiler, black-painted mirror caps and black inch wheels. The interior, is, of course, black. The thing is, it could be blacker. There still is some brightwork around the daylight opening. The lights are not blacklights. The wheels have some aluminum flash to ’em. But with the witching hour close at hand, Jackie’s gotta keep the lights on somehow, right?

The Impala marque has been around for quite a long time, since to be exact. Sure it&#;s missed a few years, but nevertheless it is alive and well. The current model, the tenth generation, is a roomy and comfortable, full-size that is selling well for GM. In the last three months, 30, new Impalas have been put on the road, and some are equipped just like our tester, with the Midnight Edition Appearance Package.

 Chevrolet Impala 1

Chevrolet is no stranger to appearance packages. This Midnight Edition is, as advertised, completely cosmetic. Only available in Jet Black, the package adds unique black 19&#; wheels, a rear spoiler, and black side mirrors. The Chevrolet badges are also blacked out, but not quite the same way they were on the Camaro Z/ On the inside…you guessed it…black leather. The interior certainly is nice and adds to the midnight-ness of this edition. All-in-all, if you like black, there really is no better choice. However, the Midnight Edition doesn’t totally black-out the entire car. There are copious amounts of chrome trim adorning the front fascia, window surrounds and tailpipes.

So what is this auspiciously dark Impala like to drive? It&#;s exactly what you&#;d expect from a big American sedan. The driver is treated to horsepower springing to life from the L V6. Acceleration is ample and unhampered by the somewhat-clunky 6-speed automatic. Feedback at the helm is largely nonexistent. Steering is large-car numb, but this isn&#;t a car for the back roads and it would be a disservice to treat it as such. As a daily driver, the Impala excels an errand-running, work-commuting powerhouse. The excellent Bose sound system keeps you completely isolated from the annoyances of the outside world. The Impala’s suspension offers an extremely comfortable ride, just as the American cars of old were. The front wheel drive platform, shared with the now defunct Cadillac XTS, didn’t fare well in difficult weather conditions. One night of winter weather sent the Impala’s traction and stability control system into fits. All other safety features came in handy for the aforementioned commute. Features such as forward collision assist, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert were optioned into our tester.

The Android Auto interface was seamless, aided by the addition of a wireless charging pad to eliminate battery drain. The Chevy MyLink screen wasn&#;t as good as the updated screens in newer GM products, but the functionality was excellent and had no issues all week.

The Impala is still a very acceptable car for families and anyone looking for a large car with midsize fuel economy and a couple different engine options. The Midnight Edition Appearance Package adds the looks to the car for a sales boost that was needed at the end of and early The only condition? You have to like black.

Blackout chevy edition impala

by Ciprian Florea, on LISTEN

Once an impressive, full-size coupe and a powerful muscle car that could haul the entire family, the Impala returned in its 10th generation as a larger and more upscale sedan than its modern predecessors. The new Impala was met with great success, making Chevrolet confident about the nameplate&#;s revival as a strong American brand. The four-door became the first U.S.-built sedan in 20 years to earn Consumer Reports&#; top score. Additionally, it became the top-selling, full-size sedan in the United States in its first year on the market, climbing above the Toyota Avalon. Mildly updated for the model year, with the highlight being GM&#;s 4G LTE feature for the OnStar system, the Impala also received a range of visual updates for the SEMA Show.

Unfortunately, the Impala Blackout that is heading to SEMA is just a concept vehicle that showcases the sedan&#;s custom potential with the use of Chevrolet Accessories parts. The good news, however, is that buyers can actually purchase these goodies and have them installed at a Chevy dealership. Read on to find out more about this "SEMA-spec" Impala.

Chevrolet Impala Blackout Concept in detail

As suggested by the name, the Blackout Concept takes the classy and slightly aggressive cues of the standard Impala and adds a dash of soberness by means of blacked-out exterior parts. Finished in the standard shade of black available with the model, the sedan received matching grille surround, rear spoiler, mirror caps, and bowtie emblems, all sourced from the Chevrolet Accessories catalog. Rounding off the exterior is a set of inch, five-spoke wheels finished in black and polished aluminum. Chevy describes the Blackout Concept as an Impala with a "sinister attitude," but that&#;s nothing but lip service. That&#;s not to say the upgrades don&#;t add to the Impala&#;s appeal, but the sedan is rather a more serious proposition than a "sinister" one.

Moving into the cabin, Chevrolet added an all-black, leather-trimmed interior, custom trim plates with a wire-mesh pattern, Chevrolet Accessories stainless-steel door sills and a sport pedal kit. The concept also borrows the production car&#;s optional speaker, Bose Centerpoint sound system.

Under the hood of the Impala Blackout lurks the nameplate&#;s range-topping liter, V-6 engine. One of three units motivating the Impala, the six-banger cranks out horsepower and pound-feet of torque.

Chevrolet Impala

The 10th-generation Impala was introduced to the public at the New York Auto Show and went on sale for the model year. Built in both Oshawa, Canada, and Detroit, the sedan shares the extended Epsilon II platform with the Cadillac XTS and has three engines at its disposal. The liter, inline-four with eAssist generates horsepower and pound-feet of torque, while the liter four-banger cranks out ponies and pound-feet. The liter V-6, the most powerful unit of the lineup, is rated at horses and pound-feet.

For the model year, Chevrolet is also rolling out the Bi-Fuel Impala, which runs on compressed natural gas and gasoline. The Impala Bi-Fuel is currently the only full-size, U.S.-built vehicle to run on CNG. Pricing for the Impala begins from $27,, which the top-of-the-line model fetching in excess of $36,
