On iPhone, you can search for apps and contacts, content inside apps like Mail, Messages, and Photos, and even text in your photos. You can find and open webpages, find images, and find information about artists, entertainers, TV shows, and movies. You can also check stock and currency information and perform calculations, including unit conversions.

You can search from anywhere on iPhone—even the Lock Screen—and choose which apps you want to include in search results. Search offers suggestions based on your use of the apps and updates results as you type.

How to Find Hidden Apps on iPhone (iOS 15 Update)

Are you experiencing a lost iPhone app? Apps can be hidden intentionally but also accidentally. Maybe you've misplaced an app in a folder to declutter your Home screen, deleted an app temporarily for storage space, and then forgot, or you've looked everywhere and just can't find an app. Luckily, there are ways to recover them! Here's how to find hidden apps on your iPhone.

What's In This Article

How to Get App Back on iPhone Home Screen

The App library makes it possible to compartmentalize and store apps without having them clutter up your Home screens. If you’ve lost an app recently, you may have hidden the app in the App Library by mistake. To get an app back on your iPhone home screen after hiding it, you can easily find it. Here’s how to find a hidden app in the iPhone App Library:

  1. First, find your App Library by swiping left until you've gone one screen past your last Home screen page. Your App Library is made up of groupings or folders of apps that auto-sort.

  2. If you don't immediately notice your app in the App Library, the fastest way to find it is to search for it. If you do see it, skip to step 4. Tap the bar that says App Library with a magnifying glass to search.

  3. Type the name of the app.

  4. You should see the app icon appear in the results list.Press and hold the app icon until a menu appears and tap on Add to Home Screen.

Now the app is accessible on your Home screen, and you can rearrange it as you see fit!

Uncover Hidden Home Screens to Find iPhone Apps

Are you wondering, “can you hide apps on iPhone?” The answer is yes! You can hide apps in several different ways, and you can hide entire Home screen pages. Similar to a butt dial, this can happen accidentally. To check if you have hidden Home screens on your iPhone:

  1. Press and hold the background of any Home screen until the icons jiggle. This lets you edit your Home screen pages.

  2. Tap the dots at the bottom of the screen.

  3. You will see all your Home screen pages. If a Home screen doesn’t have a checkmark, that means it is hidden.

  4. Tap the empty circle to make the Home screen page visible.

  5. Tap Done.

Pro Tip: Missing or lost apps might also be located in app folders. These are created when apps are grouped together by dragging. A folder can have up to 12 pages of apps, so the app you are looking for might be invisible unless you keep swiping to the last page.

Where Are My Apps on My Phone? Use the App Store to Find Them

Do you find yourself asking, “where is my missing app?” If you're trying to find an app you suspect is buried in an app folder on your iPhone, the easiest way to find missing apps is to search the App Store. See the ask Siri method below if you are trying to identify the folder where the app is located instead.

  1. Open the App Store.

  2. On the bottom menu, choose Search. iPhone 6 and earlier: Open the App Store app and tap on the Search tab.

  3. Next, type the name of your missing app into the search bar.

  4. Now, tap Search and your app will appear!

The advantage of this method is that your app will either show “Open”, indicating that it is still installed on your phone, or there will be a download icon indicating that somehow the app was deleted from your phone and needs to be reinstalled. If the download icon appears, download the app again and see if it appears on the Home screen as it used to.

If Open appears, you can tap it to access your app immediately, and then go through your folders later and move the app back to a more visible place, so you don't have to repeat this search procedure every time you need your app.

Pro Tip: If you are wondering how to see recently deleted apps, go to your purchases by tapping your profile icon or your photo in the upper-right corner. As previously mentioned, any apps with the download icon indicate that these apps have been deleted from your iPhone and you can see them all by tapping Not on this iPhone. Now you know how to find deleted apps on iPhone!

iPhone App Disappeared? Use the Siri & Search Feature

Still scratching your head, saying, "I can't find an app on my iPhone?" Don't fret! Another way to find your missing app is to use Siri & Search to search both your device and the App Store.

  1. To activate Search, swipe down from the center of the Home screen. (You can also access Search from the Today View by swiping right on the first Home screen.)

  2. Type the nameof the missing app in the search field; try to match it exactly if possible. The Search feature will present you with a list of results. Your missing app should be among the top results.

  3. If the app is on your device, the app icon will appear right under the search bar.

  4. If the app icon appears with an iCloud symbol, it is on your phone but needs to be redownloaded. Just tap the icon to begin the download.

  5. If the Search App Store option appears under the Search in Apps heading, it isn't on your iPhone. But if you tapit, you’ll be redirected to the App Store, where you can download it.

BEST THING EVER--a life saver

I was at a trampoline place where there were courses you could do filled with foam. My stupid self decided to take it in with me for pictures and videos. I soon realized that i lost my phone in one of the trampoline pits. The people who worked there said I could come in after it closes to try to find it. I was HOPELESS as the foam pits where very deep and many people have lost there phones in those pits..they even cleaned all the pits out the other day. Thanks to this app I was miraculously able to find my phone with a faint sound under all that foam.

The SECOND time it saved my life was when i was at an outlet. I had my phone in my purse the whole time… It wasn't until closing time at the outlet that I realized my phone was missing! We were able to find out the general location of where my iPhone was at BUT It was already closing time. That next morning we played the sound and we found the phone in a store where a guy was trying to turn the noise off. He hesitantly gave me the phone when I told him it was mine..in fact the lock screen said someone tried to get into my phone! However he did give me my phone back and that's all that matters.

Highly recommend to all Apple users

A Must-Have App!

My sister tends to lose her phone every once-in-a-while. When we were taking an evening stroll with our friends, we got to our friends house, and about an hour later, she feels her pocket for her phone, and her eyes widen. I have seen this happen many-a-time, so I simply get out my phone and use this app. With our trusty adult chaperone, we set off, retracing our steps, trying to find the missing phone in the pitch black. I was convinced, because we were in a not-so-nice part of town, that it was done for, bye-bye iPhone. But, we used the app, and found that it was right where we were walking. I still panicked, because sometimes this app can say your phone is in one place, then 10 seconds later say it's 18 miles away. We used the "sound" feature and could hear it from half a block away. We found it unharmed.
A few months later, my mother lost her old iPod on a road trip. I used this app, and it said "locating" But it just kept saying that. My best guess to why this is is that it was very old, too old to track. This iPod was not touch screen and only played music.
I've also heard complaints that this app doesn't work when the device is turned off, which I think sounds SO frustrating. Please fix this, otherwise, this app is a lifesaver!

DOWNLOAD IT!!!!

So my friends and I were skating around my school and decided to play football. My sister was with the me so I told her to hold my iPhone 6. Then a group of four teenagers passed by. They were wearing hoods. At first they just passed by looking really shady. They went around the corner of the block whispering. Five minutes later they came back and talked to us. They tried being nice and asked if we wanted their baseball bat. I said sure because I never had one. Then they asked us to play football. After the first three throws, they told us to go down the street really far from them. Then all of a sudden, the group snatched my phone right from my sister's hand and ran away. We called the police and my parents. When we told the police everything they tried searching the street they ran to. Then all of a sudden I remembered the Find My iPhone app. So we tracked it at and looked around that area it was at. The group knew we called the police before so they dropped it on the ground. Plus, I had a password. So we tracked it and found it on a pile of leaves. Thanks Apple for making this app.

Apple iPhone Spotlight Search

Apple&#;s App Store features around two million apps for iPhone and iPad combined. If you&#;re like us, you probably have dozens of apps on your iOS or iPadOS device but have not had the chance to organize them all. You can easily lose track of an app icon&#;s location on the Home screen.

Luckily, the iPhone and iPad make it easy to find and launch the app you&#;re looking for. Here&#;s how to do it.

Find Apps Using Spotlight Search

Near the middle of the Home screen, use one finger to tap and swipe down.

Tap and swipe down on the home screen to launch Spotlight Search

This launches Spotlight Search. An on-screen keyboard and search bar will appear.

Spotlight can be very powerful&#;for more information, see our full Spotlight search guide for iPhone and iPad.

An image of the Spotlight Search screen

When presented with a keyboard and search bar, type a few letters of the name of the app you&#;re seeking. In this case, we&#;re using Minecraft as an example.

Spotlight will suggest a &#;Top Hit&#; and several other possibilities. Once you see the App icon you want, tap on it to launch the app.

Typing the name of an App into Spotlight Search

Find and Launch Apps with Voice Commands Using Siri

If you prefer to use voice commands, it&#;s easy to launch any app without having to find its icon. Just ask Siri.

On older iPhones and iPads, hold down the Home button below the screen. On newer devices without a Home button, hold the power button until the Siri screen pops up.

Or, if you have &#;Hey Siri&#; enabled, you can simply say &#;Hey Siri&#; to launch Siri.

Launching Siri

Once Siri is activated, say &#;Launch&#; and the name of the app that you&#;d like to launch.

In this case, we&#;re using Minecraft as an example, so you would tell Siri, &#;Launch Minecraft.&#;

Using Siri voice commands to Launch an App

After that, the app will launch, and you&#;re in business!

Data is encrypted on Apple’s servers and kept for no more than 24 hours. And when the Find My network is used, everyone’s information is kept private — even from Apple.
