Ree drummond accident

When Ree Drummond found out that her husband Ladd and nephew Caleb were involved in an accident on the ranch, she "lost all feeling in her knees." The two men had been putting out a wildfire in early March when their trucks collided, and both of them were badly injured. Caleb was taken away in an ambulance, but Ladd refused medical attention and drove himself to the hospital in Pawhuska, Oklahoma.

Ree later shared that Caleb broke some ribs, had a pretty bad concussion, and endured a few other injuries. Ladd broke his neck in two places and had surgery to stabilize one of the fractures, while the other will mend over time with the help of a neck brace.

"Rather than wish the accident didn’t happen, I’m gonna live in a state of gratitude—not just for the guys being okay, but also for the love, kindness, and prayers of so many of you," Ree told her readers at the time.

Now, it's been a few weeks since the accident and everyone is wondering the same thing: How are Ladd and Caleb doing?

During a recent episode of #AskAlex, two of Ree's kids, Alex and Todd, gave everyone an update on Ladd and Caleb's recovery process.

"A lot of people are asking how our dad is," Alex said. "He's doing a lot better. He's recovering and he's even starting to get back into ranch work."

She went on to say that his mobility is a little limited right now, but "he's still able to hang."

As for Caleb, he's doing better too.

"Caleb is doing good," Todd said. "He's pretty much all healed up and back to his normal life."

Ree and her family will forever be grateful that Ladd and Caleb are both okay, and they're all so touched by everyone's kind words as they continue to heal. We think Alex said it best: "You can't keep a good man down!" ❤️

Ree Drummond, who's better known as "The Pioneer Woman," gave fans a quick, happy update Thursday on her husband and nephew following a scary car crash.

"Ladd and Caleb are healing up after their accident on the ranch. (And the Drummond family is so grateful for all of your kind words!)," she wrote on social media.

Drummond's husband since 1996, 52-year-old Ladd, and her nephew Caleb, 21, were driving separate fire trucks responding to an incident on March 10 near their ranch in Osage County, Okla., when they collided head-on. A report from Oklahoma Highway Patrol, obtained by People, indicated that "high winds on a gravel road" meant that the drivers couldn't see. Neither was wearing a seatbelt and Caleb was ejected from the vehicle.

Both men were injured, with Caleb being taken to the hospital in critical condition immediately. He was diagnosed with a severe concussion and broken ribs, but he's since been released.

Ladd, who refused treatment at the scene, later thought better of it and decided to drive himself in for medical attention.

"He called me on his way and tried to explain what happened," Ree wrote in an earlier update, "at which time I promptly lost all feeling in my knees before running out the door and heading to town."

His diagnosis: His neck was broken in two places, one of which required surgery to stabilize it. Doctors ordered a neck brace to help the other heal, which means he'll need to wear it at daughter Alex's wedding, which is set for May 1.

Ree's latest update also included a link to her blog, where she noted that two of her children, daughter Alex and son Todd, talked about Ladd and Caleb during a March 31 question and answer session with fans.

"A lot of people are asking how our dad is," Alex said. "He's doing a lot better. He's recovering and he's even starting to get back into ranch work."

As for Caleb, Todd explained that he was, "pretty much all healed up and back to his normal life."

Ree Drummond Reveals Ladd Broke His Neck During Crash and Will Wear a Brace to Daughter Alex's Wedding

Ree Drummond's husband, Ladd, had a much more serious injury than originally thought following a truck collision with his nephew, Caleb, near the family's farm in Osage County, Oklahoma on Wednesday.

The Pioneer Woman star updated her fans on Monday after a tough week. Ladd and Caleb's accident occurred as they were responding to a fire, the eleventh they've had to fight on the ranch since November, according to Ree.

Ladd, 57, originally refused medical attention after the crash. "This was partly because he wanted the paramedics to focus on Caleb, partly because he was still a little stunned by the accident, and partly because cowboys don't like to admit when they're hurt," she said.

While Caleb was transported to the hospital via ambulance, Ladd felt well enough to drive himself, though he was a little stiff. "He called me on his way and tried to explain what happened, at which time I promptly lost all feeling in my knees before running out the door and heading to town," Ree explained.

Once at the hospital, Ladd was told he broke his neck in two places. "Evidently one of the two fractures was very close to being catastrophic,"Ree said in the update. Ladd underwent surgery in Tulsa where a few rods and "other hardware" were used to stabilize the severe fracture.

"He will have to wear a neck brace for several weeks to let the other fracture heal, and the girls and I will bling out the brace for Alex's wedding…but we are just grateful he will be here for Alex's wedding," Ree said. (Alex and her fiancé Mauricio Scott are getting married on May 1.)

Ladd has since been discharged from the hospital.

Caleb, 21, suffered a few broken ribs and a severe concussion — but has also since been discharged and is expected to make a full recovery.

"Rather than wish the accident didn't happen, I'm gonna live in a state of gratitude—not just for the guys being okay, but also for the love, kindness, and prayers of so many of you," Ree said. "Thank you all so very much for reaching out to our family and for keeping us in your hearts through the past several days. I can't tell you how much it means to all of us, and I'll never, ever forget it!"

Ree also shared images on her blog that show the damage to the trucks the men were driving. "For both Caleb and Ladd to be okay—injured, yes, but fixable—after seeing the condition of their trucks makes me not want to spend one second complaining," she said.

According to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol obtained by PEOPLE, the accident took place around 1:43 p.m. on Wednesday about eight miles west of Pawhuska.

Ladd and Caleb were each driving a Himmat Fire Truck on County Road N3660. Caleb was driving southbound, while The Pioneer Woman star's husband was driving northbound. The trucks hit one another "head-on" due to "high winds on a gravel road" that caused visibility to be decreased, according to the report.

Neither Ladd or Caleb were wearing a seatbelt, the report said, and Caleb "was ejected approximately 70 feet from point of rest."

Caleb and Ladd had been responding to one of many fires that have been burning through thousands of acres of land in northeast Oklahoma Wednesday, news station FOX23 reported.

The flames had reportedly been encroaching on the Drummond family farm.

Television food creative and The Pioneer Woman star Ree Drummond and her husband, Ladd, are taking a much-needed vacation together after a bumpy start to the year. Drummond was eager to share trip photos with fans, because as she recounts, their time away almost didn't happen after Ladd was involved in a head-on collision in March, and they had to postpone their trip.

However, after all that Ree and the entire Drummond family have endured in watching him heal from a broken neck, she's grateful to have this time. The couple ditched their Oklahoma ranch for the more scenic mountains of Vail, Colo.

"So my answer to the question 'How happy are you to be in Colorado with your husband right now?'" Drummond writes on Instagram alongside a selfie of the two of them, "Would most definitely be this: Happy. So very, very, extremely, through-the-roof, over the moon happy."

Of course when you're a professional cook and have your own television show about all things food, there's no way you can go on vacation without indulging in local cuisine. The Pioneer Woman put the saying "go big or go home” to the test, posing a picture of herself scarfing down a massive smoked turkey leg on a balcony.

"Ladies who lunch," she writes alongside the tasty meal.

In a post on her official blog, she further details their trip, raving about the food they've been eating and the prep work Ladd had to complete on the ranch before they could leave.

"In order for Ladd to be able to make it on this trip, he had to get all his hay cut, baled, and hauled (a two-week process), and he had to wean a bunch of calves, ship some cattle, and tie up a few other loose ranching ends," Drummond explains. "So the past three weeks on the ranch have been nonstop for the dude, starting at 4AM and going into the heat of the day ... but we knew that on Sunday, July 18, if everything got done, he and I could blaze out the door and drive to Vail.”

While their trip seems to have been focused on reconnecting as a couple, the parents of five didn't skimp on the fun, either — Ree shared a funny video as she attempted to race her husband up the stairs, letting fans know that they're both fairly competitive.

“Ladd and I are weirdly competitive. Not with anything that matters, but definitely with dumb things like racing each other up a random flight of stairs while on vacation,” she notes while sharing this video:

“Usually I have no hope of beating him unless I decide to start the race without informing him that there is a race. Today he was nice enough to open the door for me and I used it as my chance to get a head start," she says.

Ree and Ladd have been married since 1996. The couple's daughter, Alex, married her longtime boyfriend in June, and Ladd was able to remove his neck brace to dance with his daughter.

Ree Drummond Says Husband Ladd Broke His Neck in Crash on the Family's Ranch

Ree Drummnond is updating fans on her husband, Ladd Drummond, and nephew, Caleb Drummond's, condition less than a week after they were injured during a crash on the family's ranch in Osage County, Oklahoma. After sharing that she thought the pair were going to be "OK," the Pioneer Woman took to her website Monday to share just how bad their injuries actually were.

"Ladd was stiff but able to walk around immediately after the accident, so he refused medical attention. This was partly because he wanted the paramedics to focus on Caleb, partly because he was still a little stunned by the accident, and partly because cowboys don’t like to admit when they’re hurt. After Caleb’s ambulance left, Ladd drove himself to the hospital in Pawhuska, thinking he'd just quietly get checked out," Drummond explained.

What she wound up finding out at the hospital was that her husband's injuries were nearly fatal.

"Caleb broke some ribs, had a pretty bad concussion, and a few other injuries that will heal. Ladd (the guy I told you about who drove himself to the hospital?) broke his neck in two places—and evidently one of the two fractures was very close to being catastrophic," she revealed. "Ladd was transferred to Tulsa and had surgery to stabilize one of the fractures. Thanks to some rods and other hardware (and an amazing neurosurgeon named Dr. Kalani), it’s fixed now and that danger is over."

The Food Network star went on to share that her husband will have to wear a neck brace for several weeks and will wear a blinged out version to their daughter's wedding. Drummond added that she's so glad they're both home and thanked her fans for their support during this time.

"So rather than wish the accident didn’t happen, I’m gonna live in a state of gratitude—not just for the guys being okay, but also for the love, kindness, and prayers of so many of you," she wrote.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, the two were driving separate vehicles when they crashed head-on due to the high winds on a gravel road. News on 6 also reported that the accident happened while they were battling a fire on the Drummond Ranch. "Osage Nation fire crews said more than 200 acres have been burned," per the outlet.

Ree Drummond says husband got kicked in the head by a cow

Holy cow!

After getting into an accident on his family ranch in March, Ree Drummond's husband, Ladd Drummond, was just involved in another minor, yet slightly amusing incident.

During an Instagram Live video with her daughter Alex, who's about to get married this weekend, Drummond revealed that her husband told her about an interesting interaction he had with one of the animals on their ranch.

"This is what it's like being married to a rancher/cowboy/country boy," she said in the video.

"I said, 'How was your day, honey?'" and he said, 'I got kicked in the head by a cow.'"

Alex was slightly amused at this point and asked, "Are you serious? That's horrible. Is he OK?"

Luckily, Drummond's husband is doing just fine and she seemed more entertained than concerned.

Back in March, "The Pioneer Woman" announced that Ladd and the couple's nephew Caleb G. Drummond had been in a fire truck crash on their family ranch in Oklahoma. The two had been driving their own fire trucks to help fight an 800 to 900-acre brush fire on their property, and Caleb was in critical condition after the collision.

Ladd waived treatment at the scene but Drummond later revealed that her husband suffered a fractured neck in two places.

Last month, Alex gave an update on her father's condition and revealed that he was on the mend. "A lot of people are asking how our dad is," she said at the time. “He's doing a lot better. He's recovering, and he's starting to get back into ranch work.”

As a result of the accident, the 52-year-old has had to wear a neck brace, but Alex is hopeful that he can remove it for her wedding this weekend.

"My dad is going in for a checkup on Thursday and if everything looks good, he can take this off to walk me down the aisle. So we're hoping that everything looks good," she said.

Despite his injury, Ladd has been gradually returning to work and his wife revealed that he had just gone out to do some work before she and her daughter started their Instagram Live. "Ladd just went out and burned some pasture, wearing a neck brace and all," she said.

Alex couldn't help but laugh while envisioning that picture in her mind. "It's such a funny sight seeing my dad in his neck brace on the Jeep, lighting things on fire," she said.

During their Instagram Live, Drummond and her daughter also dished on all sorts of details about her wedding, including the menu.

"My mom has been the mastermind behind my wedding menu, honestly. I haven't even tasted the food; my mom tasted it all for us," the bride-to-be said and her mother laughed.

"Well, it's not because we didn't want you to taste it. It's because (the couple has) been in Dallas and we kind of needed to make some decisions. So Alex rightly said that I love food more than anyone she knows and so she trusts me," Drummond explained.

"I said her judgment is probably better than mine," Alex said in agreement.

So, what's on the menu? Drummond said she'll be sharing more details soon but did say there will be a lot of fun hors d'oeuvres and the group will be dining on beef tenderloin/beef filet.
