Battery Doesn’t Last Half as Long
I received my Gear S3 Frontier the Christmas holiday of 2018. I’ve loved and enjoyed it first moment I received it. Personally I would’ve gone with what was most popular at that time if I’d purchased myself (fitbit/Apple Watch etc). But it was a gift from my spouse who is one who searches and reads reviews and ratings before making a section on any purchase. About 3 weeks ago I began trying to complete the newest update. After so many unsuccessful attempts of updating I gave up and finally a couple days ago was able to complete the update successfully. I can see the difference in the look of the icons and colors on the screen. I’m not tech savvy therefore I don’t know what this new update, now with Bixby, means. Sounds like something I could really care less about. I pretty much only use it for its step count & health app and making calls here and there. Seeing as though I have an iPhone I can’t respond to messages but I can receive my texts and iMessages on my watch. I have noticed my battery life doesn’t last nearly as long. Even on the off days of working out, my battery life is at about 50% around noon and I still have a full day ahead almost. Seeing as though I charge it until it’s completely charged and only use my watch the most when I’m active my battery life should last longer it seems. Please help me figure out why my battery life is so much less since I’ve updated. Thank you!
Dear user, we are sorry for the inconveniences. GPS, WI-FI can consume a lot of battery. Additionally, the display takes up the lion's share of the battery when turned on so we recommend you use the always-on feature sparingly.
Unfortunately, reply to message function is not integrated with iOS yet. We have duly noted your suggestion and will pass it along to the development team. Thank you.
Works With iPhone 6s Plus
I read a lot of reviews about compatibility with iPhone before getting my Galaxy Watch (standalone version from T-Mobile). Everything I found said I would lose a lot of functionality because iOS did not play well with Samsung products. I’m happy to report that I can make and receive calls and texts without issue, even if I turn my iPhone off and leave it at home (reviews all said I would not be able to reply to texts from my watch). Almost everything seems to work without issue with the major exception of Samsung Pay. I’ve paired my watch with a Samsung phone, and I must admit this is a function I will really miss as I don’t like carrying a phone and wallet when I work out. Apple Pay won’t work on the watch either, for obvious reasons. One other thing that is not working on my watch (which worked when paired to a Samsung phone) is the voice to text feature. I think it worked when I first linked the iPhone, but it’s stopped working. This is a feature I hope can be fixed since it’s difficult to type out even short texts on the little screen.
Dear user, we are glad you did the research and found out exactly what the limitations were before purchasing the Watch.
We will pass along your suggestion to the development team, thank you.
I received a response from my earlier reviews a few days after I left the review. I had already fixed by deleting the app from my iPhone and doing a factory reset. This fresh install made everything start working again however I did lose all my watch faces that are not showing available any longer. I give a 5 star now because I love the fact that they responded and it works.
Earlier review: I have had the watch for about 6 months and about a month in the raise hand gesture to wake quit working. I have it turned on in settings. I just did update where one of the changes is touch screen to wake and that doesn’t work either. Also about a month in the notifications of incoming calls and messages quit working. I get no sound or vibrations. I made sure theatre mode, do not disturb are not on. I have notifications turned on for the galaxy watch and messages. I have an iPhone 8 Plus and all software is up to date on both. I love the styling of the galaxy watch plus the personalization available over the Apple Watch but not happy with the issues I’m having. I can take a call and read messages when I see it is coming in on my phone. I used the Galaxy iOS app to ask for help several months ago but never got a response. I can’t find a number to call for text support.
Dear user, we are really sorry to hear of your troubled experience. Please toggle off the wake-up gesture, turn your Watch off and on again, then turn on the gesture on. Additionally, please go to your Gear Settings→ Sound and vibration→ Select Sound in Sound Mode→ Set volume to Max for all four categories. Let us know how it goes.

Getting a new Apple or Samsung watch? Here's what you can get for your old one
Just like for used phones, a cottage industry is emerging to resell old Apple and Samsung watches.
Apple and Best Buy offer trade-in programs, but they pay less than dedicated trade sites like Trademore and DeCluttr, which offer about 40% of the original price, depending on the condition of your device.
The Series 5 Apple Watch, first released in 2019, originally sold for $399 with a 40mm watch face, or $499 with cellular connectivity, while the Series 3 originally sold for $329 when it was released in 2017, with $399 for the cellular version. Last year, Apple dropped the price to $199, just for the standard version. A cellular option isn't available.
This year's Series 6 replaces the Series 5 for the same price as last year's model, and has a few new features, most notably a blood oxygen reader.
How much is my Apple Watch worth?
DeCluttr says it will offer $200 cash for an Apple Watch Series 5 with cell connectivity, or $190 without, while Trademore offers $214 on a Series 5 with cellular, or $191 without it.
Series 3 gets $103 from Trademore or $75 from DeCluttr.
The caveat is that the devices must be in good condition. The sites pay less for ones that aren't in the best shape.
Samsung offers a $116 discount for trade-ins of Galaxy phones, tablets and previous watches for the new Galaxy Watch 3, which starts at $369.
(DeCluttr offers from around $50 for the Galaxy Watch to as high as $137 from Trademore.)
Apple offers trade-ins on the price of a new device, and says it pays up to $240 for the Series 5 with cell connectivity, or "up to" $100 for Series 3. Best Buy offers less, $150 for a Series 5 with cellular or $75 for Series 3.
Gazelle, one of the top sites for buying used smartphones, doesn't pay cash for watches. Swappa, a site for buying and selling, is like a Craigslist in that it connects buyers and sellers and takes a cute. It says the 40mm Series 5 Watch averages a resale price of $359.
Sold! Before you send that watch off...
Before shipping your watch to send back to Apple, the company says "You are solely responsible for removing all data, including confidential and personal data, from the device prior to shipping."
How to do that: On its website, Apple says to open the Watch app on the iPhone, go to the My Watch tab, tap All Watches, then the info button next to the Watch and choose Unpair Apple Watch.
An easier way to do it might be just to get it done on the Watch itself by clicking Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
To wipe an old Galaxy Watch clean:
On the Watch, press the Home button and go to the Apps screen.
Tap Settings, then General and Reset.
Click the "reset networks," button, which will revert the unit back to its factory settings.

As expected, Samsung took the wraps off the Galaxy Watch 4 and the aptly titled Galaxy Watch 4 Classic during its Galaxy Unpacked event this morning, confirming recent leaks and introducing the first two devices built on Google and Samsung’s co-developed smartwatch platform, Wear OS 3. Both watches also sport Samsung’s new Exynos W920 processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and come with a host of health-related features thanks to the inclusion of Samsung’s 3-in-1 BioActive sensor.
Although neither model is set to arrive until August 27th, both are available for preorder starting today at varying price points.
How to preorder the Galaxy Watch 4
The Galaxy Watch 4 is essentially the next iteration of the Galaxy Watch Active 2. The aluminum smartwatch will be available in either a 40mm or 44mm configuration and will showcase two side buttons in addition to a digital bezel. It will also launch in a handful of colors — specifically black, green, silver, and pink — with additional personalization coming in the form of watch bands.
If you’re looking to secure Samsung’s forthcoming wearable ahead of launch, both sizes are currently available for preorder at Samsung. Pricing starts at $249 (or $299 with LTE) for the 40mm model, and if you preorder the Galaxy Watch 4 between now and August 26th, Samsung will throw in a $50 credit to be used toward Samsung select devices, add-ons, and accessories. The larger, 44mm variant costs $279.99 with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, while the LTE version is $329.99. If you trade in an eligible device like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, you can also save up to $185 on the total cost.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4
The Galaxy Watch 4 features Samsung’s One UI Watch, a digital bezel, and comes in one of two sizes: 40mm or 44mm. It’s also smaller than the like-minded Galaxy Watch 4 Classic and is best thought of as the successor to the Galaxy Watch Active 2.
If you prefer to go through your carrier, Verizon is offering the Galaxy Watch 4 as low as $12.49 a month. You can also save up to $100 off if you trade in an eligible device, or $150 if you purchase the forthcoming smartwatch alongside an Android phone.
The Galaxy Watch 4 is also available at T-Mobile for the same price as Verizon. You can preorder the 40mm model outright starting at $299.99, or finance it for $12.50 a month. The 44mm configuration will cost you $329, or $13.75 a month, if you prefer to pay in installments.
Lastly, AT&T is offering preorders on both the 40mm and 44mm models. You can preorder the 40mm configuration for $299.99, or the 44mm model for $329.99, and AT&T will knock up to $200 off if you trade in an eligible device. Financing is also available for $8.34 and $9.17 a month, respectively, and you can get a second Galaxy Watch 4 when you purchase both on a qualifying installment plan and add a new data line.
As usual, Amazon and Best Buy are also an option, with each offering their own set of incentives. Both retailers have the 40mm version available for preorder for $249.99 (Amazon/Best Buy), along with the 44mm model for $279.99 (Amazon/Best Buy). The 40mm, LTE-equipped version is also available for $299.99 (Amazon/Best Buy), as is the 44mm variant for $329.99 (Amazon/Best Buy), both of which are unlocked.
Additionally, if you preorder any configuration of the Galaxy Watch 4 at Amazon, you’ll receive Samsung’s Wireless Charger Duo. Doing so at Best Buy, meanwhile, will secure you a $50 gift card that’s good for any future purchase.
How to preorder the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic
Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, the Classic represents a more traditional take on a smartwatch, albeit with Wear OS 3 inside. The compact watch will launch with a stainless steel build and the same AMOLED display as the Galaxy Watch 4, however, it also features a bezel you have to physically rotate. It will be available in 42mm and 46mm versions and in one of two colors (black or silver).
On the preorder front, both sizes of the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic are now available from Samsung. Pricing starts at $349.99 (or $399.99 with LTE), and Samsung will throw in a $50 credit if you preorder the watch prior to its launch on August 27th, which you can use on select Samsung devices and accessories. The bigger, 46mm model with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi retails for $379.99, while the LTE-equipped variant runs $429.99. Like with the Galaxy Watch 4, Samsung will also take up to $185 off the total cost with an eligible trade-in.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic
The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is larger than the standard Galaxy Watch 4 and showcases a more traditional stainless steel design. It also sports a physical bezel as opposed to a digital one.
If you’d like to preorder the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic via your carrier, you have a few different options. The 42mm Galaxy Watch 4 is currently available at Verizon outright for $399, or for $16.66 a month. The 46mm model, on the other hand, will cost you $429 outright or $17.91 a month on an installment plan. AT&T will also give you a $100 credit if you trade in an eligible device, or it’ll take $150 off if you purchase the smartwatch with an Android phone.
T-Mobile offers the same pricing as Verizon, though you can also get a second Galaxy Watch 4 Classic of equal or lesser value for free if you opt for an additional line and purchase both devices on an installment plan. As for pricing, you can preorder the 42mm and 46mm models for $399.99 and $429.99, respectively, or opt for an installment plan starting at $17.92 a month.
