Apple Products at Costco

Updated: October 7, 2021

Costco offers members remarkable savings on a variety of products. This article covers the best deals on Apple products at Costco.

From its humble beginnings with just one warehouse in 1983, Costco now operates over 700 locations across the world. Early Costco customers remember a store where everything came in mass quantities. Minimalistic warehouse shelves were stocked with ridiculously large tubs of mayonnaise and other bulk products. In the beginning, Costco was really only appropriate for large families. They specialized in selling institutionally sized groceries.

Times have changed. Although you can still find some relics of Costco’s past, they’ve figured out that most people don’t want a 5 gallon tub of mayo. Instead, they bundle multiple smaller units of groceries in one package. They also carry clothing, books, videos, TVs, computers, tires and almost everything under the sun, including select Apple products. Costco shoppers can find tremendous savings on the Macintosh, iPhone, iPad, iPod and Apple TV. You can even order these items online and have them delivered to your door.

Apple products are significantly discounted at Costco. You may be able to find a better deal if you search around, but it’s unlikely. The only disadvantage is that there isn’t a lot of choice. For example, if you buy an iPad, it usually only comes in one color. For most people, this isn’t a problem.

You also need a membership to shop at Costco. A normal membership costs $60. Executive memberships are offered at $120. The Executive membership offers additional perks. Executive card holders are allowed to enter the store one hour before regular members. They also get 2% back on purchases. I buy 90% of my groceries at Costco, so the Executive membership is well worth it.

If you can’t afford a membership, there is a workaround. Costco cash cards can be used by non-members at any store. There’s a bit of a catch-22. Only members can buy the cash cards.

It’s essential to act fast if you find a great deal. Costco is notorious for offering products for a limited time. At the time of this writing, Costco no longer carries the fourth generation Apple TV. I was able to buy one a month after it launched, for a discounted price.

The links go to individual item pages, however, there may be different color options for a particular model. Make sure to check for any item variations, such as color, by searching for the item on Costco’s website.

Apple is known to release products on an almost predictable schedule. This means that there are bad times to buy specific Apple products. For example, Costco is still selling the iPad Air 2, even though the 2017 iPad is better in many respects and cheaper. You also don’t want to buy a new Apple device a few months before the next model launches. Make sure to read “Best Time to Buy Apple Products” before you make any purchase.

iPhone

Costco sells different models of the iPhone at aggressive prices through Membership Wireless. Prices vary depending on device, carrier and upgrade eligibility. Membership Wireless does not sell unlocked phones to Costco members.

Macintosh

Costco finally started selling Macs, however, one can find better deals elsewhere. All Macs come with an AppleCare+ option starting at $150.

Costco lists MacBooks individually, even if they only differ by color. Duplicates have been eliminated to keep the presentation clean. If color means a lot to you, make sure to search Costco’s site for a desirable color. Sometimes they only offer a product in one color.

Question:Q:Why not purchase from Costco? Why not MacBook Air 13

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Question:Q:

Is Costco an authorized seller of Mac computers? Any reason to not buy from Costco? And, looking at the MacBook Air 13". Should I look at the Pro or another model instead? Planning to use it for normal tasks for the most part. In shopping I seem to be moving upward away from an iPad that likely needs replacing because of age (stuck at 10.3.3).

Costco is an Apple Authorized Reseller. The MacBook Air is very good and the base model i3 processor would be adequate for most things but most reviewers are recommending spending an additional $100 to upgrade to the i5 processor.

Here is how you can look up the local authorized resellers: https://locate.apple.com/

Be aware of which extended warranty you might purchase, and what’s covered by that. AppleCare gets you Apple coverage, other warranties will get you whatever other entity is backing that.

Which Mac to purchase varies by your oft-unique requirements and expectations. Here’s a recent similar discussion: What macbook should I get for school and … - Apple Community that might provide some details to ponder.

As an alternative, iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard (effectively a stand and keyboard dock) might be interesting here, though that can be heavier than an iPad Air.

Costco is now offering the best deal you can find on the new MacBook Air — but you'll need to be a member to get it

US Markets Loading...HMS

Macbook Air
Hollis Johnson/Business Insider
  • Costco is selling Apple computers — including the MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac — at its online store.
  • If you're a Costco member, you can get discounts between $50 and $200, with AppleCare+ thrown into the deal for certain models.
  • One of the best deals is the new MacBook Air for $200 off Apple's pricing.

Costco has started selling Apple computers online to Costco members, with discounts ranging from $50 to $200.

One of the most notable offers is the new MacBook Air, which starts at $1,200 if you buy it directly from Apple. Costco is selling the base model of the new MacBook Air for $1,000 — a $200 discount. It's a price that some tech reviewers feel is more appropriate for the laptop that's viewed as the go-to entry-level model for anyone who wants an Apple laptop experience.

(Indeed, there's only a $100 difference between the new 2018 base MacBook Air and the base 13-inch non-touchbar MacBook Pro if you buy from Apple. With such a small price difference, customers may as well just get the slightly more powerful MacBook Pro over the new MacBook Air.)

Business Insider/Costco

Before Costco's offering, the best price you could get on a new MacBook Air base model was $1,050 from Amazon—a $150 discount. For those who aren't Costco members and don't plan on signing up, Amazon's MacBook Air offer is still among the best.

If the deal does tempt you into signing up to Costco's membership, it should be noted that memberships start at $60 per year. So if you don't plan on shopping a lot at Costco after signing up, the Amazon deal might be better for you.

Apart from the MacBook Air, Costco is also selling MacBooks, MacBook Pros, and iMacs on its online store with discounts, as well as AppleCare+ included on certain models. AppleCare+ can range between $170 for iMacs to $380 for 15-inch MacBook Pros.

It's usually rare to find deals on new Apple products, but this isn't the first time this year there are have been significant discounts on new devices: Apple recently started offering up to $100 extra in credit if you trade in an old device through its Giveback program and buy the new iPhone XR.
