Epstein Sexual Orientation Inventory (ESOI) v. 3.0, © 2006-2019, Dr. Robert Epstein

You are about to take the Epstein Sexual Orientation Inventory (ESOI), a test of sexual orientation designed by Dr. Robert Epstein, one of America's most distinguished research psychologists (follow on Twitter at @DrREpstein). The test has been empirically validated with a sample of more than 600,000 people in 219 countries and territories.

Although many people believe that everyone is either "straight" (heterosexual) or "gay" (homosexual), sexual orientation actually exists on a continuum. This test will show you where you are on the Sexual Orientation Continuum, and it will also calculate your Sexual Orientation Range, an estimate of how much flexibility you have in expressing your sexual orientation.

If you are conducting research and would like to collect raw data for a group that is taking this test - for a business, research study, classroom activity, or other purpose - please see our Group Testing Instructions.

The test is also available in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Arabic, Italian, Malay, French, Spanish, German, Hungarian, Dutch, Korean, and Japanese.

Before we get to the test itself, we'll ask you a few basic questions about yourself. Demographic information is being collected for research purposes only and will be kept strictly confidential.

To make sure the scoring is accurate, be sure to fill in all the blanks!

An online test about sexual orientation is going viral.

IDR Labs has a website with various tests you can take to measure traits like political ideology and personality type.

Their Sexual Orientation Test asks you questions about your sexual attraction to men and women and then tallies up your answers to put you somewhere on a grid with four quadrants: homosexual, bisexual, asexual, and heterosexual.

While some people are having fun finding out how gay or bi the test says they are, the variance within quadrants appears to be, in part, a function of how much you like clicking on “very often” as opposed to a lesser degree of often.

The test, for which IDR Labs cites Michael Storms’s Erotic Response and Orientation Scale, was meant to replace their “Kinsey Scale Test.” They said that test was “overly binary in its approach to sexual orientation,” even though the Kinsey Scale is famous because it challenged the binary “either gay or straight” concept of sexuality.

Related: More straight men are going gay than ever before

That said, the new test is still just as binary as the old one when it comes to gender identity. In the test, you are either a man or a woman and you are asked questions about your attraction to men and women.

IDR Labs admits as much, but also says that the test was significant because of how it approached bisexuality.

The test effectively engages in rounding, though. Someone who gets less than 50% for their attraction to either the opposite or the same sex but over 50% for the other will be categorized as gay or straight, even though someone like that might identify as bisexual, and it’s hard to see why someone who sometimes fantasizes about both men and women isn’t legitimately bi.

Anyway, since the Sexual Orientation Test just asks questions about sexual attraction, not behavior or identity, it appears pointless outside of its original context.

Are there people out there who can assess their own sexual attraction but don’t know that being, for example, attracted to the opposite sex but not to the same sex is pretty much the definition of heterosexuality?

Still, some people are having fun with it.

Sexuality test

Determining your sexuality in modern society is no easier than it was years ago. But why is that? Despite the numerous activities and human rights organizations that support and promote freedom to explore your sexuality, society is slow to change. Besides, the introduction of new terminology can confuse anyone! (Not to mention young impressionable teenagers confused as it is). This sexuality quiz will help you sort out your habits a bit. And the following information will introduce most of the currently-accepted sexuality orientations.

What's in This Sexual Orientation Quiz?

sexuality quiz

Important Note: We encourage you to feel free to explore your sexuality on your terms, without feeling the need to label anything! Sexual orientation is a highly personal thing that we all experience differently. Do what suits you best and what feels comfortable!

Now, are you ready to dive into the world of terminology for a bit before the actual sexual orientation quiz? The variety of options and categories may surprise you!

This is a broad term that includes various kinds of orientations. Its meaning is being attracted to only one gender. As a result, both homosexual and heterosexual orientations are incorporated into this category.

Am I Polysexual?

This is the complete opposite of monosexuality. The term means that a person is attracted to more than one gender, but not all. This may be confusing for many, but you’ll understand the difference after hearing the variety of following terms. Besides, the number of gender variations is not less than orientations.

Am I Heterosexual?

This is what traditionally is called being straight. Heterosexual relationships are the connection between people of the opposite sex. This is an easy one; everybody knows that.

Homosexual - Am I Lesbian Quiz?

Another part of monosexual orientation is homosexual, or as you may know lesbian. This is a category that’s been with us for a long time and brings no confusion.

Homosexual - Am I Gay Quiz?

Homosexual generally includes two types of sexual orientations - lesbian and gay. Some people generalize all homosexuals as gay. As far as I've noticed, people have to trouble with that.

Am I Bisexual Quiz?

Bisexuals find both men and women attractive. This is one of the most known types of polysexual orientations. You’ve probably already taken a bisexual quiz at some point out of interest, right?

Am I Pansexual Test?

This is quite a new term. But it has already gained popularity. Pansexual means being attracted to people of all genders. That includes transgender, androgynous, gender fluid, and so on. This is an all-encompassing orientation that means that a person sees no importance in this category and chooses a partner based on other criteria.

Am I Asexual Quiz?

Axesuals come from a whole spectrum of their own. The traditional interpretation is feeling no sexual drive at all. However, there are many variations to asexual people. For example, there is grey-A that experiences sexual attraction, but it may be very low (easy to disregard) or connected to a particular person or circumstances.

Am I Autosexual?

This term will be new to many people. Autosexuals - people sexually attracted to themselves. Their fantasies revolve around their bodies, and a mirror for a successful sexuality test is advisable.

Am I Androgynsexual?

This sexuality has no connection to one particular gender but comes in a combination of both. Androgynsexuals admire androgynous people (those who possess both female and male features).

Am I Pomosexual?

This is the most freeing choice for modern society. Pomosexuals are those individuals who reject labeling sexuality and don’t want to be identified with any label. They determine it all on their own.

Klein Sexual Orientation Grid Test

Our sexuality is an integral part of who we are. How do you know if you are gay, lesbian or straight? Many of us have wondered. Klein Sexual Orientation Grid Test is designed to provide a graphical representation of one's sexual orientation. The test can be applied to men and women, and offers orientation placement on scales from heterosexual to homosexual, similar to the Kinsey scale.

What is Klein Sexual Orientation Grid?

The Klein Sexual Orientation Grid is a system to describe an individual’s sexual preferences in a more detailed way. It was introduced by Dr. Fritz Klein (1932-2006) in the first edition of his 1978 book The Bisexual Option. Previously, the one dimension Kinsey scale was used to describe the sexual orientation of the person. The founders of the Kinsey scale call it a . This is because it considers a more fluid definition of sexual and romantic orientation than labeling someone as heterosexual, bisexual, or gay. But the criticism arose on Kinsey Scale because of its Two-dimensional property.

To overcome that, Klein developed a multidimensional grid for describing sexual orientation. The Klein grid investigates sexual orientation in the past, the present, and in the idealized future with respect to seven factors each, for a total of twenty-one values.

What does a Sexual Orientation Test want to convey?

Sexual Orientation is a term used to describe a person’s pattern of emotional, romantic, and sexual attraction to people of a particular gender(male or female). Sexuality is not just for reproduction purposes; it is way beyond what we think. It defines how we see ourselves and how we relate to other humans we are living with. Sexuality is divided into five categories,

types of sexual identity

Your sexual orientation is determined by many factors like environmental, emotional, hormonal, and biological factors. Whatever your sexual orientation may be, it doesn’t mean you are mentally or physically abnormal in any way. Knowing who you are from inside, what your emotional preferences are, nothing to hide or feel wrong about it. A sexual orientation test helps you to know your sexuality. Klein Sexual Orientation Grid is widely used by people to test their sexuality easily.

What is the advantage of KSOG over the Kinsey Scale?

The Kinsey scale is the base for any sexual orientation scale widely available now, but there are various limitations noted in the method over time. Any scale has its own positives and negatives, so the KSOG is developed to overcome the limitations of the Kinsey scale.

1. The first limitation of the Kinsey scale is that it doesn’t include the possible sexual orientation in a relationship. It just divides it into straight or gay, but what about a bisexual or asexual person, where he comes in the graph. This is where a KSOG score; is framed for all types of sexuality.

2. Gender is not Binary. Kinsey scale measures the attraction towards opposite or same-sex or gender as the person under assessment. It completely excludes the person who comes under the other gender identity than the usual binary gender.

3. The Kinsey scale doesn’t differentiate the romantic attraction and sexual attraction. But that’s not true; a particular individual may be romantically attracted towards a particular gender and sexually attracted to the opposite gender. This kind of relationship is completely ok; KSOG takes this entity into consideration.

Klein Sexual Orientation Grid:

KSOG is first introduced by Dr. Fritz Klein in the first edition of the 1978 book “ The Bisexual Option.” The Klein grid is not a testing tool to examine the sexual identity of a person. It is just a scale to know where your sexual orientation lies in it. It is a learning tool to help people better understand the nuance and complexity that make up everyone's sexuality. Let us see how the KSOG works,

KSOG sets a 7 component variable of sexuality,

KSOG variables of sexuality

These variables are measured against three different periods in a person’s lifetime like “Past,”” Present,” and “Ideal future.”

There are seven questions framed for the sexuality variables; these KSOG items are given a score of 1-7 for the specific point in time. So for each variable, your score may be 1-21.

The Klein Grid is a method to identify a person’s sexual identity, but we should consider that many people change their orientation over time. Where a person is a today is not necessarily where she or he was in the past -- or, for that matter, where he or she will be or would like to be in the future. So you can take up a Sexual orientation test based on KSOG to know your sexuality.

Every one of us might not need a scale to determine our sexuality. Still, someone who needs help to grow the originality of what he feels inside needs support to show the rest of the world what they are emotionally, so this test allows them to know their original sexual preference.

Sexuality is about how you define, how you feel sexual and romantic attractions. It is also about your interest in sexual, romantic, and behavioral preferences.

Who your romantic or sexual partner is at a given time does not actually decide who you are. Therefore, sexuality can be complex — it can change for some and over the years for others in different contexts.

Sexuality, how we are as people, is an integral aspect. In addition to reproductive capacity, sexuality also determines how we see ourselves and how we relate to others physically.

Most scientists believe that the combination of cultural, emotional, hormonal, and biological influences gives rise to sexual orientation. That includes homosexuality and bisexuality. In other words, several variables help the sexual orientation of a person and the factors can vary for individuals.

Sexual orientation test

The way children were brought up by their parents or anything that happened to them when they were young, is not causing home sexuality and bisexuality. Being homosexual or bisexual doesn’t mean that the person is either mentally ill or abnormal. They will suffer the burden of discrimination or incomprehension by other people. Also, this is probably one of the most engaging quizzes you will play today.

Many people are sexually oriented as adolescents or young adults, even without sex. For instance, anyone may see that their sexual thoughts and behaviors are focused on same-sex people or both. But people of the same sex without being homosexual or bisexual can feel fantasized or curious.

During adolescence, people tend to notice a rise in sexual feelings because of hormonal and physical changes in puberty. It is frequent to think about new sexual feelings and often to worry.

Many people need time to figure out who they are and who they are. Part of it requires greater knowledge and appreciation of your own sexual feelings.

Many people experience sexual feelings and attractions during the young years. Some can feel intense and seem confusing about these feelings and thoughts. This can particularly be true of those who think romantically or sexually about someone they’re the same sex. They might think, “What this means.” “Am I homosexual?”

Sexual orientation refers to who you are and who you feel like in a romantic, emotional, and sexual manner. It is distinct from the identity of gender. Identity between gender is not about to whom, but about who you are, man, gender, etc. It’s about who you are.

About the quiz

This means that being transgender is not the same as being gay, lesbian, or bisexual. In other words, feeling like your assigned sex is different from your identified gender. Sexual focus is one with whom you want to be. It’s about who you’re, sex identity.

Queer may include a number, other than cisgender, of sexual identities and gender identities.

A term used in past to injure and taunt people was “queer.” It is still offensive for some, particularly for those who recall when it was used painfully. Others now use the term pridefully for their identification.

If you don’t know that’s how they describe themselves, you may not like anyone as “queer.” Use the words you use to speak to others about your sexual orientation.

People who classify as asexual don’t really feel anybody’s sexual desire. You might think that others are physically desirable or you might like to be in romantic relationships with people. In addition to that, you don’t care about sex or sex. Often asexuals use short of the word “ace.”

Asexuality has little to do with romance. You simply don’t have a need to act sexually on these thoughts.

Zhenya undertook to escort Katya, giving me the opportunity to escort Alla (probably, he considered such a division to be some kind of restoration. Of justice). At first I was delighted, but the longer we walked with Alla together towards her house, the more I was disappointed in her.
