`
HOW TO MEASURE TO DETERMINE THE WICK SIZE REQUIRED
The diameter of the draft tube determines the wick required by the heater. The draft tube is easier to measure if the burner is removed, which leaves the draft tube as the only thing protruding from the tank. You can see right through the draft tube to the floor, rug or drip pan beneath the fuel tank (font) so it is easy to identify.

When kerosene was invented, it started many new industries, and improved the daily life of your family. Besides better and safer lighting, it created cheaper heat for the homes.
The free-standing round kerosene heater became common. Besides heating a room, the heater most often had a grill stamped into the top, so it could also heat coffee, lunch, or whatever you wished. Well, almost anything.
In summer the kitchen got very hot, but to iron clothes required the wood kitchen stove to be heated. Before electric power there were no fans, no A/C, and no air in the kitchen.
Then someone made a “sad iron stove.” Who made the first one is unknown to me, but they came into wide use.
The base was cast iron, about eight inches long, four inches wide. The bottom had a tin fuel tank, and then a wick burner about four inches wide, made like all other cloth wicks for lamps. The top had a frame to hold the iron, above the heat. This helped to limit the amount of heat and cost.
The little stove was to heat the iron’s bottom. If hot enough, the heavy flat iron held heat for awhile.
With all flat ironing, a second iron would be heating as the first was being used.
These sad iron stoves had to be common, but they have not survived over the years. The metal drives for both World Wars removed many of the old heaters and irons as well. Unlike the pleasant designs in the glass lamps, the sad iron heaters were ugly, so they were not displayed.
The room heaters are common, and unless you have one of those made of brass, they have little value. The better ones came with enamel finishes in blue or gray. The cheapest came with black paint, and rusted away in a short time.
Another way to cook was a glass lamp that on the top had a heavy cast metal plate to support a cooking pot. The glass tank on these was very thick, and eight or more inches wide. Mine has a large finger hole, but when full, it must have taken two hands. The tank had to support a pot full of coffee or food. These also helped keep the heat down in the house. Perhaps it was used on the back porch.
If you find a small tin, not over 1 gallon, with a wood handle and a long, narrow spout, you have a kerosene fuel can. The spout was to refill lamps and stoves. The size was kept small because ladies had to not only carry the can, but pour from it.
The first stores to keep kerosene were the blacksmith’s shops; many of these would slowly change over to what we call gas stations. (Well, when I was younger they were gas stations; now gas is a side line. The sodas and candy have taken over as the main sale item.)
Feed stores and dry good stores also started to sell kerosene. The feed stores would add a small shack away from the barn, and fuel oils were kept there. Feed stores already had a short history due to fires, so the last thing they wanted was kerosene next to the hay.
In the larger cities they started using kerosene lamps as street lights, but that is another story.

You actually pay attention to restrictive regulations that tell you what you must or must not do inside your own house, eh?
Well, good for you. Someone has to obey those laws.
I usually just use my own common sense, and I haven't had a problem yet.
I'm sure they wouldn't put you in jail if you used it. For one thing, "they" will never know until 'they' start daily house to house inspections.

Mark D.
Welcome!
This website is an image collection of models of vintage and antique PERFECTION OIL HEATERS. The images you will be viewing were made possible by several other collectors with their permission. My goal with this website is to have one comprehensive source of the known models of Perfection Heaters.
This is an ongoing project and all submissions are welcome! Please use the contact form if you are interested in participating.
I have been collecting Vintage German & Swiss Kerosene lanterns for several years.During that time, I had the pleasure of meeting a wonderful group of folks, who not only collect Kerosene lanterns, but also Perfection Kerosene Heaters. It was love at first sight when I spotted my first Perfection Heater.
Kerosene and fire are addicting (in a good way!)
In my search for my first Perfection Heater, I quickly realized I knew nothing about them nor could I intelligently identify all the different models. Some were obvious; others were not. So the journey of learning began and as with most ‘road trips’, you learn so much more along the way.
Once you own a Perfection Kerosene Heater, you must know how to restore it, maintain it and then get maximum enjoyment out of it.
In addition to the images and model numbers, there is also a RESTORATION PAGE and
also a RESOURCE-LINKS PAGE.
I hope you'll find this website useful in identifying your vintage Perfection Oil Heater.

I lived not far away so we got there quickly. Having entered home, we went into the hall, where I could already very well examine my companion. Katya was a pretty girl with long black hair in a braid, brown eyes and a slender figure. Having laid a modest table and opened champagne, we settled comfortably on the sofa next to each other.
After sitting for a while, I turned on the music and.
