Now In Development: Skill Balance, Summon AI, Armor, PvP, Boss Cards!

Greetings, Saviors! Today, we at the dev team are presenting a few of the plans we have for combat rebalancing after the last big combat system changes. The features we’ll talk about here are still in development, so keep in mind that they could look a little different when they make it into the actual game. That said, let’s get on with the plans.   There are five main aspects we want to focus on for the next combat rebalancing changes: 1) Improving the usability and balance of skills 2) Improving summon AI 3) Increasing armor stats and readjusting PvP calculations 4) Introducing two-handed blunt weapons 5) Reviewing the boss card system   Improving the usability and balance of skills When it comes to improving the usability of skills and the PvP environment, we want to start by increasing the scope of close-range attack skills. We’re widening a total of 37 skills, increasing their lateral range by 10% to 20% in some cases, and as much as 50% to 70% in others. Buff skills are also getting rebalanced. First, for buffs that can be maintained with no interruption, we’ve decided to change their duration to seconds (5 minutes), to eliminate the need to refresh them every other 40 seconds or 1 minute. The cooldown time and SP consumption of these skills will remain the same; this change simply provides a way to use them more conveniently. We’re also increasing by around 2 times the range of buff skills that were too narrow to comfortably apply in party situations. Next, we’re preparing to readjust the performance of individual classes. Now, there are a lot of classes and skills involved in this, and most of what we have planned is still being tested, so please understand that it is impossible for us to reveal every single change at this point. What follows are just a few balance modifications we have prepared. Using the Cataphract’s Rush in combination with the Lancer’s Initiate buff will increase damage. Achieving a well-aimed shot with the Dragoon’s attribute-enhanced Serpentine will increase the Hoplite’s Pierce damage, and using a spear over long distances will no longer require you to retrieve it in order to throw it again. Schwarzer Reiters are getting a damage factor increase on the skills Retreat Shot and Wild Shot, with the latter also seeing a reduction in charging time. Meanwhile, the movement speed penalty of Evasive Action will no longer apply. To Hackapells, who despite being in the Archer tree are better suited for close-range combat, we’re adding a Cavalry Charge attribute that significantly increases defense when attacking the enemy. We also allowing the Rogue’s Lachrymator, Feint and Vendetta skills to be used while mounted on a Companion, so your character can go back to using close-range Hackapell skills in no time. Musketeers, who are required to use a new sub-weapon as they reach the higher Rank, will be able to use the Archer’s Oblique Shot.   Improving summon AI Our main goal here is to make “lazy” summons more active and precise. After boosting up summon attack values and movement speed, we want to make them target enemies more accurately and immediately, while avoiding things like Tree Root Crystals or Dirty Poles. We have a long way to go when it comes to improving summon AI, so we’re starting with the most basic and urgent aspects of it. The attack and movement speed changes we prepared for summon AI are going to have a big impact on summon performance; anyone familiar with summons will feel the difference immediately once the patch is applied. Because of this – and in consideration of PvP balance – we decided to cut down 20% to 70% of summon HP and give them a different duration (life span). Necromancers in particular are getting an improved Gather Corpse method and an easier way to summon their skeletons. Zombies, which aren’t as easy to come by for Bokors, get a little more HP, while Shoggoths and other Summoning skill bosses (which can be summoned less frequently) will go through only a slight HP reduction.   Increasing armor stats and readjusting PvP calculations We expect the next balance changes to affect PvP more visibly than PvE. Sadly, the current PvP environment in Tree of Savior allows for some very “meta” builds capable of finishing an opponent in only a couple of hits. One of the reasons for this is that, given the little payoff you get from investing in your armor, most players choose to invest in their weapons instead, where you get a more significant increase in attack or damage from the amount of currency spent. With its attack stats (critical), leather sets already seem to enjoy a pretty good degree of performance which makes them popular among players. The same can’t be said about the damage-reducing abilities of plate (physical) and cloth (magic), so our plan is to visibly increase the physical/magic defense stats on these types of armor. Along with the higher defense, plate and cloth are also getting a bigger stat increase out of transcendence and anvil enhancement, which will increase both physical and magic defense. You will still need to invest plenty of your time and currency on collecting, enhancing and transcending rare armor sets, but what you do spend will become a lot more worthwhile. Another thing we’re doing is testing a factor that applies % of damage in PvP which, if successful, will make it even harder for players to defeat an opponent in only a couple of hits (given that they invested in armor).     Before (Defense ) After (Defense ) Attack  PvP factor not applied  PvP (factor 50%)  PvP factor not applied  PvP (factor 50%) % factor  2,  1,  1,   % factor  20,  10,  15,  3, % factor  64,  32,  47,  11, (This PvP damage factor may be changed even after this patch is applied.) If we consider that the HP of a character in level can be anywhere from around 20, to 80, (Swordsman, high STR), with basic defense and a PvP factor of 50%, any common skill with an % attack factor can deal over 10, of damage in a single hit, enough to wipe half the HP of a Wizard or Archer character with no STR investment. After the defense and PvP factor patches are applied, finishing an opponent in one blow becomes less feasible even with a strong % attack factor (that is, as long as the opponent has invested at least a little in defense). A Swordsman character with generous upgrades to all their armor pieces and high STR, on the other hand, can boast impressive levels of resilience not only in TBL matches (an update talked about in a previous post) but also against multiple enemies in GvG. Still on the subject of TBL and PvP-specific factors, we’re preparing to introduce a special type of costume for the top-ranked Team Battle League winners of each season that will reduce their amount of damage received in PvP by a small percentage. We expect to release these costumes along with the renewed TBL point shop we talked about in our latest interview post. Finally, in this defense patch we want to include an Earth Tower armor exchange system that will allow you to trade your Earth Tower gear for another type of armor while maintaining all of the original’s enhancement, transcendence, potential, gems, awakening and socket setup. There will be no limits to the number of exchanges you can make. This process will require a few Earth Tower items to complete, but after this update is brought to the game we’re planning to open an event period where players are exempt from the item fee, so you can easily get your Legend equipment in the type of armor that best suits your character.   Introducing two-handed blunt weapons We’re developing new two-handed blunt weapons for physical attack Clerics. These weapons will look similar to existing one-handed blunt weapons, only larger and with different colors. In the beginning, we want to make them equippable by Paladins and Monks, both classes requiring a Circle 3 attribute for it. Two-handed blunt weapons have stronger attack stats than their one-handed counterparts and require at least level to equip. Our plan is to add a total of 11 of these weapons: from the Hunting Grounds unidentified series, Lolopanther and Solmiki series, and level Rare and Unique sets. In the future, as two-handed blunt weapons become their own type of weapon in the game, we expect to broaden the spectrum of classes allowed to use them.   Reviewing the boss card system From the current boss card system, in which you can equip a maximum of 8 cards (at Rank 8), we want to change to one where players can equip as much as 12 cards distributed over 4 types (3 cards for each type), regardless of Rank. In the current system, if you have one or two cards with significantly high performance, those cards end up being the only ones equipped while the rest becomes simple fodder for EXP. With the new system, you can choose to equip different cards of all types according to the characteristics of your character. We still don’t have an official name for each type of card, but they consist of 4 groups distinguished by the color of their slot border. The golden locked slot in the middle is for a fifth type of card we plan to introduce in a future update. Along with the revamped card equip system, we want to add 5 new boss cards to match the updated game contents and readjust the effects of some cards that currently perform lower on the scale. When we do apply the boss card patch, all cards will be automatically unequipped with no level (★) penalty, but we’ll talk more about this before it’s applied to the game.   As mentioned in the beginning of this post, all of the contents discussed here are still in development and we don’t expect them to be introduced right away, as they’ll first need to go through additional testing in our test server before being applied to kTOS. We’ll work hard to bring you other updates previously talked about here at the dev blog meanwhile. Also, in our next post we’re going to discuss the changes currently being developed for Pardoner shops and the guild system, so stay tuned!

Located in the South of the Kingdom within the Klaipeda region, the city of Klaipeda is one of the main cities in the world of Tree of Savior. The city is connected to West Siauliai Woods, the starting point for all the new Revelators. Klaipeda is considered the main administrative region of the kingdom with mining as the city's main industry. The prosperity of the city is mostly attributed to the crystal mined from the Siauliai's Crystal Mine in the past. In present days, the city is going through a difficult time; with the circulation of goods nearly extinguished and the city flooded with refugees from other regions because of Medzio Diena. The city is also home to several class masters such as Cleric Master Rozalija and Knight Commander Uska, the Templar Master and the city's ruling general.

The city's name was actually based on Klaipėda, the capital of Klaipėda County and the third largest city in Lithuania. Other maps that are connected to Klaipeda are the Gytis Settlement Area and the East Siauliai Woods that leads to the Crystal Mine and Miners' Village.[9]

Orsha[edit]

Orsha is a city in the Southern Kingdom within the Royal Territory. As a city that precedes the kingdom, Orsha is one of the oldest cities in the world of Tree of Savior. The Orsha region was the last to be annexed by Zachariel the Great; leading to the founding of the Kingdom. During that period, there was a resistance among the Orsha locals that reject the demands of the King. However, before the final battle could even begin, the goddesses intervened and replaced the battle with safer competitions. This led to the defeat of Orsha's representatives against the King's warriors. Over the course of years, Orsha grew from a simple village to one of the two main cities in the Southern Kingdom. In respect of the city's tradition, Orsha is the only city to remain ruled by a local nobility appointed by the royal family. As of , the city is being led by Inesa Hamondale, the Lord of Orsha.

The city's name was based on Orsha, a city in the Northeast of Belarus and southeast of Vitebsk. Other maps leading to Orsha are the Woods of the Linked Bridges and the Lemprasa Pond.[10]

Fedimian[edit]

Located in the North of the Kingdom within the Fedimian Region, the city of Fedimian is one of the three currently accessible cities in the world of Tree of Savior. Within the city is the Divine District where many pilgrims from various towns gather to worship. A gigantic statue of the Goddess Zemyna can be seen at the Northern part of the Divine District; having its lower half buried due to the huge earthquake caused by Medzio Diena. The said statue is considered as the symbol of Fedimian. Aside from the Divine District, the city also had a Market District but was completely destroyed during Medzio Diena. Efforts are being made to revive the city after the events of Medzio Diena.

The Divine City is surrounded by numerous wonders and ruins. Some of the most noteworthy places surrounding Fedimian are the Mage Tower, the Great Cathedral, and the Cursed City. Also located within the city are various Class Masters such as Appraiser Master Sandra and Squire Master Justina Legwyn. Other areas connected to the city are the Fedimian Suburbs, Starving Demon's Way, and Seir Rainforest. The city is also a popular hangout place for Revelators where they can prepare themselves before embarking on a new journey.[11]

Features[edit]

PVP and Guild System[edit]

Team Battle League[edit]

The 'Team Battle League' or TBL is a PvP content of the game where players can compete with other players from the same regional servers. TBL have four separate sessions each day which each session lasting an hour. Anyone is free to spectate but only characters that are over Rank 5 will be able to participate in the TBL. Participating players are automatically moved to the 'Team Battle League' zone once all the combatants are ready; prompting them to compete on a best of three system. All participating players receive Battle Points after competing in TBL; a points they can use to purchase items in the Point Shop.[12]

Gemstone Feud[edit]

The Gemstone Feud is another PvP game mode where two opposing camps battle each other for Gemstones. The entrance to the Feud is located at the Northern part of the Miner's Village. The Feud has no entry count limit. Saviors can participate every day at 10 AM, 2 PM, 6 PM and 10 PM in their corresponding server region’s time zone. The game mode is currently open to level characters and above. After entering a session, saviors are automatically placed in one of the two opposing camps: the Pledge of the Blade or the Golden Note. Gemstones can be exchanged for valuable items.

Guild and Guild Territory Wars[edit]

Saviors preparing for a Guild Raid.

Previously limited to the Templar class, anyone can create a guild with additional features such Guild Hangout. Members of a guild can participate on different guild events such as boss hunting events and guild wars. Members can also do farming in their guild hangout and raise companion eggs obtained from guild events. Aside from these features, members of a guild can also participate in the Guild Territory Wars, a large-scale PvP challenge in which guilds can battle each other to seize areas of territory in a field. In the world of Tree of Savior, there are Spot Areas where players can fight in Territory Wars. Rewards for seizing a Spot depends on the grade of the Spot Area. Some of the existing Spots include Genar Field, Galeed Plateau, and Inner Wall District 8.[13][14]

Dungeons and Modes[edit]

Uphill Defense Mission[edit]

Uphill Defense Mission is a party-focused mission where everyone must protect the Divine Torch from the waves of monsters. The mission is available to level characters and above. While it doesn't give any EXP points, players can get valuable items for completing the mission. The mission can be accessed at the Saalus Convent area by talking to Sister Lhasa. Uphill Defense points earned can also be exchanged for various items.

Challenge Mode[edit]

Challenge Mode is a game mode that allows you to fight powerful monsters for equipment and reward items. Each character can only enter this mode once per day and can be accessed after defeating a certain number of monsters on a field of level or above or by using a Challenge Mode Voucher. The challenge mode has a total of seven stages, with players requiring to finish the challenge in a limited amount of time.[15]

Classes[edit]

Tree of Savior utilizes a Class system which determines what abilities a character has access to. There are five base classes available at the start of the game. Players can advance to three more classes as they progress through the game, giving them a total of one base class and three advancement classes. Additionally, class skills can further be strengthened by improving its attributes. The following are the game's base classes and their available advanced classes:[16]

Removed Classes[edit]

The Centurion Class is the only class to be temporarily removed from the game. The said class mainly specializes in battle formations; granting them the ability to control the movement of their allies and use different formations like the Phalanx and Tercio formation.[19] As of June , there are no official updates yet if the Centurion Class will come back as a higher rank class in the future.

Companions[edit]

Companions are allies that follow your character and assists you in different ways. Some companions can be mounted on without the Companion Riding attribute, while companions like the Velheider and Hoglan requires a Companion Riding attribute to use it as a mount. There are also companions that are tied to a specific class like Hawk being the companion of the Falconer class.

Adopting a companion fills one of your available character slots and can be used by all of your characters. Depending on the companion, you can equip it with a weapon and armor to increase its attack and defense in battle. Players can also improve the attributes of its companion by visiting a companion trader or by bringing it with you in battles to increase its level.

Companion Cost Information
Velheider, silver Can be used by any class. Needs a Companion Riding attribute to mount.
Hoglan, silver Can be used by any class. Needs a Companion Riding attribute to mount.
Hawk, silver Can only be used by Falconers. Can't be mounted.

DEVELOPER'S BLOG

Greetings, Saviors!

A lot has changed in TOS with the latest Rank update: new classes, new features, revised content… it can be a lot to take in at once. So, to get you up-to-date with the newest version of TOS, we put together a little FAQ list that hopefully will help clear any doubts on what’s changed and how it’s changed.

Keep in mind that this list only contains information on some of the main aspects of the update. For a more exhaustive list of all the changes and fixes, please check the patch notes.

[Challenge Mode]

- The Challenge Mode is a new game mode that allows you to fight powerful monsters for better equipment items and cube rewards.
- The Challenge Mode consists of 5 stages, each running for a maximum of 10 minutes.
- To complete each stage you need to defeat the boss monster within the time limit. Only then can you move on to the next stage or complete the challenge.

Q. How can I enter the Challenge Mode?
In fields of recommended level and above, you will come across a purple monster which you must defeat in order to create a portal to the Challenge Mode. This monster will appear in regular fields, but not in Hunting Grounds.

Also, keep in mind that the Challenge Mode will close automatically if your 10 minutes run out or you become incapable of combat.

Defeat the purple monster to open the Challenge Mode portal.

The gauge at the bottom shows your current Challenge Level (stage).

Your goal is to defeat the monsters and charge up the gauge within the time limit to complete the stage. When the stage is complete, you will see two portals: Step Up and Close.

Step Up takes you to the next Challenge Level, and Close ends the Challenge Mode.

Complete stage 5 and exit through the Close portal to receive your Challenge Mode rewards and cubes.

Q. Can other players enter the portal too?
Yes. The portal stays open for 10 minutes and anyone who qualifies can enter it (players whose character is within 30 levels of the Challenge Mode level). The Challenge Mode map behaves like a cutscene quest, so you won’t see non-party member players there when you get in.

[Unique Raid]

- This a new raid-type dungeon where you can get recipes and materials for Lv Unique equipment.
- The dungeon is available to characters of level and above, and it can be accessed through the corresponding tower (First Shelter) in Nobreer Forest.
- There is no daily entrance limit, but each entry consumes a set amount of a special material item.

Q. What items do I need to get in?
To enter the dungeon, you need at least 6 Raid Portal Stones. The Stones are consumed from your inventory after you receive the dungeon’s final rewards, and every entry on the same day costs additional Stones.

Raid Portal Stones can be obtained as rewards from the Challenge Mode, and Token users get a discount of 2 Stones on each entry.

Q. Can I use vouchers and other dungeon-related items there?
No. Instance Clear Vouchers, Multiply Tokens and entrance/reset vouchers do not work on the Unique Raid dungeon.

Q. The dungeon didn’t give me any Silver or EXP.
The Unique Raid dungeon does not drop Silver or EXP.

[Instanced Dungeons]

- Each entry is now counted only after you receive the dungeon’s final rewards.
- Instanced dungeons now have a completion rate system which determines the amount of rewards you can receive.

Q. The entrance to instanced dungeons are gone!
The old instanced dungeon entrances were removed. Now you can access all instanced dungeons through the Sentinel Rian NPC located in Klaipeda.

Q. How are dungeon entries counted now?
Before, each instanced dungeon entry was counted as soon as you entered the dungeon (entering the dungeon = -1 entry).

Now, the entry only counts when you receive the dungeon’s final rewards. Dungeon rewards (Silver, cubes) are now delivered all at once when you defeat the final boss monster. If you exit the instanced dungeon before that, you won’t receive any rewards and the entry will not count.

Q. Is the amount of Silver received from clearing the dungeon a common reward shared with other party members?
No, the amounts of Silver stated as instanced dungeon rewards are the individual amounts each player gets for completing the dungeon. For example, if a party of 5 clears the Lv instanced dungeon with a completion rate of %, each party member receives , Silver.

Under this system, there’s no need to solo low-level dungeons to fund your characters, since it’s more effective to clear those closer to your own level in premade or automatched parties.

Q. I cleared the dungeon but didn’t receive any EXP.
It’s possible that the monsters you defeated were 50 or more levels apart from your own character’s level. You will not receive EXP from them if that’s the case.

Q. I think I got too many cubes at once. Is it a bug?
No. Instanced dungeons now have a completion rate (displayed in the minimap UI), which you can increase to receive bonus rewards, including extra cubes. The more monsters you defeat, the higher the completion rate and the more rewards you get.

Please note that, if you clear an instanced dungeon with a completion rate under 20%, however, the final boss will not drop any Silver.

Q. I can’t get any EXP or items from the dungeon!
All the rewards, including EXP and cubes, are now delivered to you only after you defeat the final boss monster of the dungeon.

Q. I can’t reopen the cubes.
Cubes obtained as instanced dungeon rewards (the ones called “[Dungeon Name] Cube”) cannot be reopened.

Q. I can’t reincarnate monsters inside the instanced dungeon anymore.
Reincarnation skills no longer apply inside instanced dungeons.

[Party EXP]

- You can now increase your EXP gains according to the number of members in your regular party (this includes field parties).
- The former EXP bonus obtained from having 3 or more different class trees represented in the same party no longer applies.

Q. What’s different about party EXP bonuses now?
There’s no more bonus for having different classes in the party, but the automatch bonus now applies on top of regular EXP rules.

- Regular EXP: For parties of 5, it’s the same bonus as before. For parties of 4 or less, the bonus has increased.
- Automatch EXP: For parties of 5 and 4, the standard is the same. For parties of 3 and 2, the bonus is lower.

[Common Drop Items]

Q. Common drop items like Golden Anvils, Instance Clear Vouchers, etc. aren’t dropping like before.
Those items can’t be obtained in regular fields or instanced dungeons anymore. Instead, you can now get Golden Anvils, Monster Card Albums (all 4 colors), Blessed Shards and Gems (Lv 1 to 3) from Hunting Grounds.

Aside from that, the drop rate of Rare and Unique grade unidentified items has also increased by times.

[Item Re-identification]

- The stats applied to items when they are identified are now random.
- If you want to get a different set of stats, you can get your items re-identified at the Blacksmith NPC in Klaipeda or Orsha.

Q. If I get my item re-identified, will the new stats be completely different?
The total number of stats and the group to which the stats belong will not change. Instead, you can get different stats within the same group. There are four stat groups: Attack, Defense, Utility and Basic Stats.

- Attack group: physical attack, additional property damage, magic attack, magic amplification, critical attack, defense type attack, monster type attack.
- Defense group: physical defense, magic defense, attack type defense, property resistance, critical resistance.
- Utility group: accuracy, block, stamina, HP, SP, HP recovery, SP recovery, critical rate, block penetration, looting chance, evasion.
- Basic stats group: STR, DEX, INT, SPR, CON.

Q. Can I also re-identify [Faded] items?
No. [Faded] items are the (un)identified items from before the update and they cannot be re-identified. Only unidentified items obtained after December 12, can be re-identified.

[Incapable of Combat Penalties]

- Becoming incapable of combat no longer consumes Goddess’ Blessed Gems or Monster Cards from your inventory as penalty.

Q. How is the penalty different now?
You will no longer lose Goddess’ Blessed Gems or Monster Cards when you become incapable of combat in certain fields. This is how much of each item you can lose from your inventory now, according to the star rating of the map:

[Other FAQ]

Q. The attribute to increase buff count is gone.
There is no more limit to the amount of buffs you can have, so the attribute was removed.

Q. I made a mistake on my Companion’s name. Can I change it?
Now you can. Open the Companion window (F9) and click the pencil icon to change the name of your Companion. It will consume 9 TP, the same amount charged for changing your character name.
