A sunroof ($) and just three exterior colors are available—Crystal White, Black Diamond ($), and Phantom Gray—but that lack of choice is juxtaposed by the far more important option of selecting a manual transmission. An auto is available, but we’d stick with the stick. Next year, the CTS-V coupe and wagon, as well as the outgoing V sedan, will bow out ahead of the CTS-V sedan’s arrival. To commemorate the end of the second-generation CTS-V range, Cadillac is releasing a special-edition CTS-V coupe with production limited to units. These cars feature an exclusive Ebony interior with red contrast stitching, Recaro performance seats, metal pedals, Midnight Sapele wood trim, microfiber suede-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, dark-finish V grille, satin graphite wheels, and red brake calipers. The redesigned CTS-V sedan based on the new model arrives for the model year.

The Cadillac CTS-V is the performance variant of the CTS range, and although the sedan will live on in the next-gen model, the coupe and discontinued wagon won't. The CTS-V's only powertrain is a supercharged liter V-8 rated at hp and lb-ft of torque that's paired to a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Fuel economy isn't a strong point due to the car's emphasis on performance and is rated at 16/19 mpg city/highway with the manual and 12/18 mpg with the automatic.

Performance remains the Cadillac CTS-V's forte thanks to its powerful engine, which enables it to accelerate with authority. Its chassis is tuned for maximum handling prowess and features GM's Magnetic Ride Control active suspension, so the car can take corners confidently without sacrificing ride quality. The car's automatic transmission, however, isn't up to par with the competition and seems to hunt for gears at high speeds.

Interior fit and finish is not up to par with newer Cadillac offerings and the competition, and the graphics in the car's infotainment system are antiquated and hard to read while the optional Recaro seats don't provide much in terms of comfort.

The outgoing Cadillac CTS-V remains one of the best driving performance cars thanks to its impressive ride and handling balance and a powerful supercharged V In a First Drive review, we said that the car comes alive in spirited driving with a nicely weighted steering that has great on-center feel, plenty of grip, and a stability control system that "never feels intrusive" when kept on. As a whole, the Cadillac CTS-V is well-executed performance machine that has "world-class" handling. We said in a comparison test against the E63 AMG wagon that "there is no car that possess the ride/handling compromise of the Cadillac CTS-V" thanks to the car's magnetic suspension. In a First Test review, we also noted that the six-speed automatic transmission isn't up to par with the competition and "feels lazy and sluggish" regardless of the mode it's in. The car's infotainment system is dated and the optional Recaro sport seats are lacking in comfort while interior fit and finish isn't up to par with the competition.
