These free telling time anchor charts are math tools that can be used as a poster or an insert for a math notebook.

Download these free telling time anchor charts to help your students work on telling time.

Along with how to tell time, students can use this as a reference when naming parts of a clock.

This is another free resource for teachers and homeschool families from The Curriculum Corner.

Wondering how to teach telling time?

When we begin working on telling time, we know that different students need different supports.

The more we can find, the better!

It is great to begin by letting children explore using manipulatives.

You can simply give children play clocks so that they can make noticings.

Much like the beginning of a writing or reading unit when children are exploring books, students can make noticings while playing with clocks.

Have them share what they see. They might note the hours around the edge or the minutes counting by 5.

After your observations, you can use the resources here to enforce what students know or are learning about reading clocks.

We hope this free teaching resource will be a great addition to your study of how to tell time in your classroom.

About these telling time anchor charts

First, there are two versions to help children work on identifying the parts of a clock.

Next, there are telling time anchor charts that include words that are commonly encountered in a unit on telling time.

Along with printing as a poster or inserting in a math notebook, you might also print on card stock and laminate this chart. The laminated chart can then be placed at a center when you are using a time game for review throughout the year.

Within this chart we have included visuals to help student differentiate between a digital and analog clock.

You will also find clocks that help students recall the difference between the short and long hands on a clock.

When students are working to recall the length of time measurements, they can use this chart to find the number of minutes in an hour.

Our illustrated clock can also be used to help students who do not yet remember to count by 5s when going around the clock.

We have included the meaning of a.m. and p.m.

Also students can use this chart when learning the phrases quarter past, half past and quarter til.

Print this anchor chart using your poster maker to create a large visual for students as they learn to tell time.  Or, add to a math notebook as a resource tool.

You will find a smaller version with four charts on one page.

You will find this free anchor chart set here:
