MidWest XXL Dog Crate vs Frisco XXL Dog Crate: Comparison, Differences & Which Is Better?

Both are very similar crates in many ways – made specifically for Giant sized breeds.

They are basically the same size, although the Frisco crate is only the slightest bit bigger in some dimensions.

The Frisco crate might be slightly more affordable, and therefore slightly better value.

It’s also good that the Frisco crate comes with a sizing chart in the product description – it makes things slightly easier when ordering. Make sure to take a look at them when you are browsing.

The MidWest crate comes with the L bar on the top panel (to prevent the side panels from bowing inwardly) that the Frisco crate doesn’t.

Review: Frisco XXL Dog Crate for Big Dogs

It can be difficult to find products designed for the largest dog breeds. These giant dogs need products that are more durable, higher quality and much larger than those made for small, medium and large breeds. The Frisco XXL Dog Crate from Chewy is specifically made for the largest dogs.

Metal dog crates are typically the first type of crate thought of by perspective pet owners. They're a durable type of crate that can be used in a variety of situations. These types of crates usually fold flat for easy transporting and storage, and they're often recommended by veteran pet owners and experts in the pet industry alike.

I prefer these crates, because they are also easy to clean and can't be ruined by chewers, which makes them ideal for puppies. Metal wire crates aren't escape-proof, as an especially rambunctious dog may be able to get the walls of the crate to fold in. In order to combat this issue, a lot of pet owners use cable zip ties to ensure the crate doesn't fold up unexpectedly.

The Frisco XXL Dog Crate is a 2-door option for the largest dogs. If you like this crate, but need it in a smaller size, check out Chewy's website for all of the other Frisco crate options. The smaller sizes do have different features, so be sure to read the product description and customer reviews to help you make the best choice for your pet.

Frisco XXL Dog Crate for Large Dogs Review

Frisco XXL Dog Crate for Large Dogs ReviewThis crate is made from steel wire with an electro-coat finish that is corrosion, rust and fade resistant. When assembled, it measures 54&#;L x &#;W x &#;H. It is suitable for dogs with a maximum height of &#; and a maximum length of 50&#;.

As you can see in the photo above, my pound Labrador has more than enough space inside this crate. It is made for giant breeds, like St. Bernards, Mastiffs and Newfoundlands.

Assembly is required, but it isn't difficult. There are long pins that slide through each corner of the crate to keep it stable. The company does recommend having 2 people to assemble the crate, but I was able to do it myself in about minutes. It would be easier with 2 people, as each side panel is heavy and awkward to maneuver on your own.

Like most metal wire crates, the Frisco XXL Dog Crate has a removable plastic tray for easy cleaning. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a divider like other similar products. Dividers are necessary if you're buying a crate for a large/giant breed puppy. You can divide the crate into a smaller area and adjust the size as your pup grows.

Another drawback to this crate is that it doesn't fold down in one piece. Most metal wire crates fold down for easy storage or transport. Because of it's size, this Frisco crate can't do that. It does come apart, but you'd have to disassemble and reassemble it every time you wanted to put it away or take it with you on a trip.

ALSO: Dog Crate Sizes &#; How To Size A Dog Crate For a Perfect Fit

crate door lockThis crate has 2 doors: one in the front and one on the side. Both doors feature 3 slide-bolt latches (pictured above) that keep the doors securely shut. This design makes it extremely difficult for your dog to slide the latches out and open the door from the inside of the crate.

Some owners do not like metal wire crates, because they believe they look too much like a cage. They also worry that their dog may break one of the wires and injure himself. If your dog is a Houdini that tries to escape from any enclosure, a metal crate like this may not be the best choice for him.

I would NOT recommend this big dog crate for a dog that tries to escape!

However, if your dog isn't too rambunctious you won't need to worry about him getting hurt in this crate. He would have to be extremely powerful to bend the bars.

You can buy a dog bed that fits on the floor of this Frisco crate, but it will be an additional cost. If you're interested in buying this crate, you can purchase it for $ on Chewy.com.

It's reasonably priced compared to other similar products, and I do believe that it's a good value for the money. Metal wire crates are one of the most affordable options for dog crates, and they are good choice for most dogs.

I bought this for my business. I haven't used it yet but wanted to have it as an option for large breeds that are still in training & can't be trusted to be left alone in the house yet. As well as for dogs in recovery & need limited activity. It was pretty easy to put together, it did take 2 of us. But it only took about 30 minutes. There were a few pieces that were very slightly bent, we were able to put them in to the right position without compromising structure or strength. I have no doubt if it had been a bigger issue that chewy would make it right because they always make it right in my experience. Excellent Customer service. • Exactly what I wanted

    By Bray on Sep 12,

I bought this kennel for my great dane pup who was outgrowing the 48 inch kennel I already had. Shipping was fast it is heavy so once it arrived I opened it outside and carried it in in sections. Took two people to get it together as the panels are very large but I would order again if ever needed. We have had it for quite some time now as our baby is still not mature enough to run the house unattended. He sleeps comfortably and for anyone looking for a bed that will fit it a crib mattress fits pretty well. Don't let the price tag scare you this kennel is built to last.

  • Perfect for large breeds

    By Steph on Jul 24,

I had my Pyrenees puppy a smaller kennel that she was quickly outgrowing. I knew I needed an upgrade, and what an upgrade this is! The dimensions are true, so measure your space before you buy! You will almost certainly need help in assembly just so someone can hold the parts while the other maneuvers the parts. It isn't difficult, but it is bulky. As some people mentioned, my crate did arrive bent. It weighs 70+ pounds, so one drop by the shipping company is enough to bend it. In my case, the damage was slight and easy to bend back into the correct shape. This was no fault of Chewy, but I do think it could use more padding in the corners and handles on the box for easier shipping. The cats can then walk on top without falling through the bars :) my cats already love this perch for watching their new sister and sunbathing haha. Overall, I love this kennel, and my dog and cats do, too!… more

  • Great Dane crate

    By Remy on Aug 11,

Two Great Dane pups just joined our family. They are cute, small and adorable for now but as you know they get big. So we thought ahead by going with the XXL crate. I read all the reviews. Every one commented how huge these crates were but if you measure there should be no surprises. One review said “Don’t follow the enclosed instructions watch utube on how to put together”. That’s exactly what we did. We bought two and had no problems. Yes they will house a human but they are perfect for a gentle giant. We put them in our garage. I can’t image where you would place them in your house unless you have a castle. Love the double doors plenty of access to go in and out. • Plenty of room for growing puppy

    By MurphysMom on Aug 1,

We got this for our Bernese Mountain Dog puppy. He’s already lbs and still growing. We wanted a kennel he wouldn’t outgrow. This one definitely fits the bill. It was super easy to put together and Murphy loves it. The only negative was some of it was bent when it arrived. It looks like the shipper was super rough with the box (surprising since it was a huge box). We were able to straighten it back out thankfully.

  • Such a pain

    By Nodramamomma on Jul 22,

First of all I wasted a whole day waiting for it to come, and I never did until 2 days later. Secondly it was bent in multiple places and was difficult to bend back. Thirdly it took 2 people and an hour to put together, and last but not least parts of it got bent by my 10 month old great dane making the tray even more of a pain to get the tray out to clean an accident he had. Think twice before buying this. I did DAYS worth of research trying to find the best crate for a great dane and still am really disappointed.

Purchased this 3 years ago and it is still in great shape. We have a 90 lb Belgian Malinois . No rust, bottom tray hasn’t cracked. Worth every penny. We tell him to go to his room and he goes right in. It’s big enough that we can fit our GSD in the crate with him if need be.

They laughed contentedly and opened the bottle for me. I took a few sips straight from the neck, waited until it was pleasantly relaxed in my head, gave the bottle, and they offered "brotherhood". I kissed them while drinking beer. One of them pressed me to him and began to iron, feel me over the top of the dress, then lifted the hem and.
