Chihuahua Rescue Indiana is dedicated to serving the community and animals, for the betterment of all lives. We are always looking for foster homes and volunteers to help with the animals and adoption events.

Not ready to adopt, but love animals?  We can save more lives if we have foster homes where the animals can stay until they are ready for adoption.  By opening your home to a homeless pet, you are helping save many more lives than just that one.

We feel all animals deserve a second chance and we will do our best to rehabilitate dogs that have behavioral problems and even aggression.  We care for our animals until we find the perfect home, and always take them back if circumstances change for our adopters.

We do screen our applicants carefully to ensure both animal and family are finding the perfect match.  We also believe in a foster-to-adopt program for some animals, to make certain the match is perfect.

NOTE: Puppies can be adopted before spay/neuter, but we do not adopt puppies outside the Albuquerque area. ECR strictly adheres to sterilization policies, and arranges for newly adopted puppies to be spayed or neutered locally. If you plan to adopt a puppy, a $ non-refundable deposit is required after your home is approved for placement.

How long have you been at the shelter? I moved to here on July

What’s your backstory? On July 13, Nashville Humane Association rescued 32 animals in Campbell County, Tenn., from dangerous summer heat. I was one of those rescues. All 32 of us are now safe and happy here at NHA and we’re all very thankful for that.

Any must know info you’d like to share? Yes! Please don’t let my small size fool you. I may only be 13 pounds, but trust me, I can keep up with the big dogs and any cardio a human may like to do with me. I love to walk, I love to hike, I love to jog and I love to play fetch. (Although I don’t always bring the ball back to you. Haha. Yup. I’m a little bit of a jokester. Can’t help it. It’s the terrier in me.) I am also current on all vaccinations and I even have a microchip.

What do you like to do when no one is looking?  In my defense, let me remind everyone again that I’m a terrier mix, aka the rascal of the dog world. I have been known to jump on counters. When you ask me to get down, I will act like I have no idea what you’re talking about. Even though I do. Let’s just say I have a wicked sense of humor and enjoy playing doggie-pranks.

What are your best features?  I’m always in a good mood. There is always a smile on my face. I’ve got great ears, too. One is floppy, the other stands up tall. It’s all kinds of adorable and totally fits my fun-loving, ready-for-anything personality.

Yes, so glad you asked: Nashville Humane Association will be the nonprofit beneficiary of the iHeart Radio Music City Brewers Festival, happening this Saturday, July Cheers to that fun news! Plus, NHA adoptable puppies will be available to pose with you for adorable pictures with them at the EarthWise Pet Supply photo booth. All the puppy models ask for (besides a forever home) is a $5 donation for the picture. And all proceeds from these photos will help in the care of Nashville Humane pets (just like me) at the shelter.

What qualities do you look for in a best friend? I want a best friend who needs me just as much as I need them. I really want to be included with your day-to-day activities. I am happiest when I’m with my people. Being near you makes me feel secure and safe. I really am a wonderful girl who is ready for her forever home. Chihuahua Rescue Information: Chihuahuas are high strung, yappy, tiny dogs. Chihuahuas are loyal to the point of possessiveness and obsession with their masters. Chihuahuas are bold, high energy dogs that make wonderful companions for their owners but are suspicious of strangers. Chihuahuas are not well suited to families with children due to the dogs' defensiveness and tendency to snap when provoked. Chihuahuas need to be thoroughly socialized. Despite their small size, Chihuahuas are often aggressive with other dogs. Chihuahuas do fine living in an apartment but need plenty of daily exercise.

Chihuahua Trivia: Some Chihuahuas are so small they can stand upright in a person's hand. Chihuahuas are the smallest dog breed in the world. Chihuahuas were the oldest breed on the North American continent. Though associated with Mexico, Chihuahuas have origins in China. Chihuahuas were sacred animals to pre-Columbian Native Americans.

When I found &#;Cami&#; at ACS she was almost completely bald, ears completely infected, and her nails looked like they had never been cut. She was actually crying huge tears. I sat with her for hours before I checked my Facebook and saw the rescue by chance. I contacted them through email and Tammie answered right away. They were on the way! A few weeks later I picked her up. She overcame her skin issues, double ear infections, tooth surgery (all covered by TXCR) and slowly but surely came out of her shell. She has an actual smile on her face daily and we adore it! She won our hearts and the hearts of her new brother and sisters. Every time we thought about taking her to an adoption event she&#;d hit a new milestone and prove she belonged here. Now named Bella Star she&#;s adjusted perfectly. She potty trained right away and helped her shy sister break out of her shell. She also loved cats so the transition was seamless. We&#;re over the moon with our little Star. We couldn&#;t imagine a life without her. She was definitely the missing piece in our home. Thank you, Texas Chihuahua Rescue, we can&#;t say enough good things about you all and the entire process. Our baby is now in her forever home.&#;
