Biggest New Games of April Days Gone, Mortal Kombat 11 More
If youve been struggling to keep on top of the new releases so far this year, the first half of April should be the perfect opportunity for you to catch up. Theres not really much going on in terms of the biggest hitters, so if you want to add a few more deaths to your tally in Sekiro, liberate Washington in The Division 2, or ruin some more pants thanks to Resident Evil 2, you might have some more time than usual.
But then things start getting really spicy about halfway through April, with a limitless creativity simulator dropping into Early Access, the next installment in the most gloriously violent franchise ever dropping, and the long-awaited PS4 exclusive that definitely doesnt feature zombies finally getting freaky.
1. Super Dragon Ball Heroes World Mission | April 4th/5th,
Developer: Dimps Corporation
Publisher: Bandai Namco
Platform(s): PC, NS
Have you had enough of card games? Too bad, heres another one. Super Dragon Ball Heroes World Mission is the latest in a long line of CCGs for beloved IPs, but at least theres a brand new storyline for your custom avatar to take part in this time. With over cards and more than characters, as well as the ability to take the action online, World Mission could scratch the itch for those who have punched every pixel of FighterZ possible. Releases a day later for Switch.
2. Weedcraft Inc.| April 11th,
Developer: Vile Monarch
Publisher: Devolver Digital
Platform: PC
Ever wanted to start a drug empire but lacked the balls to do it? Weedcraft Inc. is for you. While you may immediately think it looks like a ten a penny business sim, theres a story here to shape as you see fit, as well as social commentary on the weed business. Do you want to stay relatively above board or become the kind of distributor that would make Pablo Escobar wince? Theres going to be a lot more than meets the eye with this one.
3. Dreams Early Access | April 16th,
Developer: Media Molecule
Publisher: SIE
Platform: PS4
It was a bit of a surprise to see Sony finally adopting Early Access for one of their first-party games, but considering the mad ambition of Dreams, it makes sense to get it out there so it can grow and improve throughout development. Dreams allows you to create your own worlds and video games with an almost scary level of detail, so if you want to see Skate 4 finally come to fruition, you know what to do.
4. Cuphead | April 18th,
Developer: Studio MDHR
Publisher: Microsoft
Platform: NS (already out on PC/XB1)
We normally dont include ports on these lists of new games, but when said port involves Microsoft teaming up with Nintendo and releasing one of the best bullet hells ever made, we have to make an exception. Cuphead for Switch promises to offer the same level of infuriating fun as it does on its original platforms, except now you can flush your console down the toilet when it gets too much instead of simply throwing your Xbox controller out of the window.
5. Mortal Kombat 11 | April 23rd,
Developer: NetherRealm Studios
Publisher: WB Games
Platform: PC, PS4, XB1, NS
I personally cant wait for Mortal Kombat 11 to release, not because I am a particularly huge fan of MK or fighting games in general, but because Ash will stop rocking back and forth in the corner with excitement. Mortal Kombat 11 is the same MK you know and love: expect blood, guts, and things you didnt even know the human body had to be spilled, but this time with custom characters to fart around with, too. Also marks the franchises debut on the Switch.
6. Days Gone | April 26th,
Developer: SIE Bend
Publisher: SIE
Platform: PS4
Its been a long road for Days Gone, one thats been almost oddly cyclical. After being debuted to huge interest, it died down significantly after long stretches of radio silence and then some unconvincing gameplay reveals. Its been delayed to buff out some of its sharp edges, so heres hoping Days Gone can be another open world success for the PlayStation 4. Really do hope they include the option to remove Deacons hat, though.
Other notable April new game releases:
Dance of Death: Du Lac & Fey (PC) April 5th
Dangerous Driving (PC, PS4, XB1) April 9th
Falcon Age (PSVR) April 9th
Fade to Silence (PC, PS4, XB1) April 30th
