I've had my S10+ since some months already. I switched from an HTC 11, with which I had the exact same issue I'm going to describe.

Basically, when I start a call using discord, Skype or whatsapp, my audio quality becomes really bad. I'm using earphones with a built-in mic. It means that I can't multi-task while being on call. I can't listen to Spotify, nor watch Netflix or YouTube because the audio quality is just awful

On discord, you can change the communication mode (VOIP) to call mode. When on call mode, the audio quality from other apps is perfect, but I cannot be heard : my mic stops working.

So I think that's a lead. I read on internet that people had found a small fix, they forced the phone to be in call mode and everything worked well. It is not a permanent fix however and it's complicated to do

Can I get some help please?

I hoped that by switching phone, my issue would go away It is really annoying. I would like to be able to watch series while being on call with someone, for example.

Depending on the internet connection speed, you may want to adjust the audio quality in Discord voice channels. The application lets you change the audio quality bitrate for each voice channel on your server. Hence, you can set a custom bitrate for all the voice channels on your server. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to fix bad audio quality and set a custom bitrate (64, 96, kbps) for individual voice channels on Discord and Discord Nitro.

Discord is the perfect application for communicating with your fans or friends while playing games. And having the option to voice chat with a group of friends is a bonus. Moreover, it’s usually better than the in-game voice chat option in most games. This is because you can tweak the audio quality to your personal preference. So without any further ado, let’s check out the steps to adjust the audio quality in Discord voice channels. The guide is for PC users and Discord mobile app users. Thus you can follow the steps based on which platform you’re using Discord on. If you want to use voice command to make your Android device do things for you, you should also consider enabling the “OK Google” hotword on any screen on your device.

Setting up Discord Audio Quality Bitrate

This tutorial is for those who manage a server on Discord. Hence, in this guide, we’ll be showing how to configure the bitrate in voice channels in servers on Discord and Discord Nitro.

Discord Mobile Audio Quality

If the audio quality is bad on the Discord mobile version, follow the steps given below to adjust the voice channel bitrate for better audio.

Discord mobile bitrate settings

  1. Launch Discord on your smartphone.
  2. Tap on your Server icon and then tap on the Voice Channel in which you want to adjust the audio quality in Discord.
  3. Now tap on the 3-dots icon and select Channel Settings.
  4. You should see a slider to adjust the bitrate. The optimal bitrate is anywhere between 30kbps to 64kbps.
  5. Drag the slider to adjust the bitrate to your preference.
  6. After adjusting the bitrate, tap on the Save icon.

Discord Voice Channel Bitrate on PC

Discord PC voice channel bitrate

  1. Launch Discord on your PC.
  2. Click on the server you manage on Discord.
  3. Hover your cursor on the voice channel you want to change the bitrate for.
  4. Click on the Settings icon that will appear when you hover your cursor over the voice channel.
  5. Drag the slider left or right to decrease or increase the bitrate.
  6. Click on Save changes when you have adjusted the bitrate.

Keep in mind that the higher the bitrate, the more internet data it will consume. Moreover, it might also lead to higher ping while playing. Therefore, stick to 64Kbps or lower since the audio quality is often way better than in-game voice chat quality. Nevertheless, if you and your friends have an excellent internet connection, then, by all means, you can turn up the bitrate all the way to 96kbps. The option to set Discord voice quality to kbps is possible as of now.

If you experience ping issues while using Discord for voice chat, then we’d suggest lowering the bitrate. This might help solve the ping issues. We hope this guide helped you change the audio quality in Discord and Discord Nitro by configuring the voice channels.

Discord has become the go-to chat platform for gamers, businesses, and much more. While the platform is usually reliable, there are times the audio quality drops. The good news is that you can make a pre-emptive strike to improve Discord audio quality.

Changing the bitrate, purchasing a better microphone, and other similar tweaks can improve your input audio quality while also making it clearer what others are saying in chat. If you aren’t happy with the way Discord sounds, try some of these changes.

Change the Bitrate

The “bitrate” of a server refers to the number of bits of audio information transferred per second. A higher bitrate means higher audio quality, but it also means more bandwidth usage. If your Discord audio is poor, adjust the bitrate. Remember that only server administrators can do this, however.

  1. Hover over an audio channel and select Edit Channel.
  1. Select the bitrate slider and move it to a higher number. It defaults to 64kbps.
  1. Select Save Changes.

All Discord channels can range from 8kbps to 96kbps. However, if a channel receives enough Nitro Boosts, it can receive higher bitrate options of , , and kbps.

Enable Noise Suppression

Discord recently introduced a new feature that reduces unwanted background noise from your microphone, like the hum of a box fan or ambient noise from outside your home. While it doesn’t eliminate it, it can dampen the noise enough that no one else can hear. Here’s how to enable this feature.

  1. Open Settings.
  1. Select Voice and Video.
  1. Scroll down and ensure the Noise Suppression toggle is activated.

After you do this, Discord will automatically begin filtering out unwanted background noise.

Enable Push to Talk

Believe us: no one wants to hear you eating chips or listen to your breath if your mic is too close to your face. The push-to-talk function guarantees no unwanted sound passes through your mic unless you want it to. This should be one of the first things you activate to improve your audio input quality.

  1. Open Settings.
  1. Select Voice and Video.
  1. Select Push To Talk.
  1. Select Shortcut and enter the key you want to use to chat.

When you want to speak to your friends, all you have to do is press and hold that key to transmit audio. The moment you let go of the key, your transmission ends. This gives you more privacy in a chat, as you won’t accidentally transmit anything you don’t intend to.

Adjust Advanced Voice Processing Settings

Discord’s voice processing software can help clear up many of the input problems and make you sound like you’re using a professional-grade microphone, even if you’re using an inexpensive setup. Here’s how to modify them.

  1. Open Settings.
  1. Select Voice and Video.
  1. Scroll down until you see the Voice Processing header and ensure Echo Cancellation is enabled.
  1. Ensure that Automatic Gain Control and Advanced Voice Activity are also both active.

If you activate Noise Suppression, it automatically disables Noise Reduction.

Enable Quality of High Service Packet Priority

When you’re gaming with friends, the importance of audio quality is second only to your gameplay. Discord has a setting that allows you to give audio packets from Discord higher priority than other packets on your network.

  1. Open Settings.
  1. Select Voice and Video.
  1. Scroll until you see the Quality of Service header and select the Enable Quality of Service High Packet Priority.

Selecting this setting tells your router that transmissions from Discord take a higher priority on your network, which will result in clear audio input and output.

Adjust Attenuation Settings

In a tense multiplayer game, what’s more important: hearing your teammates relay information or the game audio? For most people, the answer is easily their teammates. The attenuation setting within Discord allows you to reduce the audio of other applications when someone speaks. Here’s how to adjust it.

  1. Open Settings.
  1. Select Voice and Video.
  1. Scroll to Attenuation and adjust the slider.
  1. Ensure When others speak is toggled On.

The slider reduces the volume of other applications when someone else is speaking. This can cut out background noise so that you can better hear other players. Ensuring When others speak is toggled on will guarantee the option works, but there is no need to silence your applications when you talk.

Invest in a Better Microphone

The single best thing you can do to improve the quality of your audio is to invest in a better microphone. Many people rely on their computer’s built-in microphone or low-quality Bluetooth earbuds for Discord chats.

Take the time to research the best microphones in your price range. A proper microphone, especially one equipped with a pop filter, will improve your audio quality by leaps and bounds. A few tweaks to your input settings will make you sound more like a radio newscaster instead of someone gaming with friends by eliminating background noise and more.

Don’t Settle for Bad Audio

You might not be an audiophile, but high-quality sound matters. Try any of these seven tips to improve your Discord audio quality. Your ears &#; and your friends &#; will thank you for the dramatic improvements you’ll get just by tweaking a few settings.

Who knows? You might even see improvements in your gameplay if you can better hear what your teammates are saying to you.

If you&#;re using Discord for voice communication, you may find that you need to tweak the audio bitrate to improve the quality of your calls. You can do this in Discord&#;s settings menu&#;here&#;s how.

Change Audio Bitrate in Discord on Windows or Mac

If you&#;re using the Discord web player or the desktop app on your Windows 10 PC or Mac, you can change the audio bitrate by hovering over the voice channel name in the channel list for your server. Only server administrators can do this, however.

When you hover over the channel name, the settings icon for the channel will reveal itself, as will joining the channel directly. Select the settings icon to change the settings for that channel.

Hover or (or select) your voice channel, then press the settings cog to change the settings.

By default, all Discord users have access to audio bitrates between 8 and 96kbps (kilobytes per second), with 64kbps set as the default channel bitrate. If you&#;re on a Discord server with enough Discord Nitro boosts, however, you&#;ll gain access to higher bitrate values up to kbps.

In the &#;Overview&#; settings menu for your voice channel, move the &#;Bitrate&#; slider up or down within the limits available on your server.

In the channel "Overview" menu, move the "Bitrate" slider up or down to change the quality of the voice communication in that channel.

Any changes you make to your audio bitrate settings are applied automatically. Once you&#;ve changed the audio bitrate, close this menu by selecting the close button in the top-right corner or by selecting the Escape key on your keyboard.

Change Audio Bitrate in Discord on Mobile Devices

If you&#;re using Discord on Android, iPhone, or iPad, you can also change the audio bitrate for voice channels in servers you own or moderate.

To do this, open the Discord app and tap the hamburger menu icon in the top-left corner.

Make sure to select the correct server, then select and hold the voice channel you wish to change in the channel list.

In the Discord channel list, press and hold the voice channel name.

After a few seconds, the &#;Channel Settings&#; menu will appear, allowing you to change the name, channel limit, and bitrate settings.

Move the &#;Bitrate&#; slider up or down to increase or decrease the audio bitrate quality. Once you&#;re happy with the setting, tap the Save button in the bottom-right corner.

In the "Channel Settings" menu, move the "Bitrate" slider up or down to change the bitrate quality levels, then tap the "Save" button.

With the audio bitrate changed, join the channel by selecting it in the channel list (if you haven&#;t already done so). The audio bitrate you&#;ve selected will apply automatically when you join.

If the bitrate is too high (or too low), you&#;ll need to repeat these steps to change it again.
