Research on Alternator for Honda Accord

The alternator in your car generates electric power and charges the battery. It doesn't require maintenance. If the alternator fails, it can be quickly replaced, although new ones are often quite expensive. A failed one doesn't always mean your car stop running right away, especially if there is some battery power. The battery won't recharge and your car will eventually not start. For a mechanic, an alternator is generally simple to access and replace, so the job won't keep you off the road for long.

Signs of a Bad Alternator

The Honda Accord alternator replacement cost will come into play if you see a warning light shaped like a battery on your instrument panel. This light indicates a charging system problem. Also, the headlights and dashboard lights may run dim at times or even flicker. Electrical issues, stalling, or hard starting are common signs. A dead battery can often be attributed to an alternator problem. Alternators fail because of worn carbon brushes, worn contact rings, or when the voltage regulator fails. The alternator bearings, which include inner and outer ones, can go bad and make whining sounds.

How an Alternator Works

An AC car alternator is an assembly that includes an outer winding called a stator. The inner winding rotates and is called a rotor. Voltage is supplied to the rotor to energize it, creating a magnetic field, and the rotor spins via a drive belt connected to the engine. Electrical current is induced in the stationary winding by the magnetic field; AC current is then converted to DC current by diodes. The alternator's output is managed by a voltage regulator attached to it.

How Many Years Does an Alternator Last?

An alternator is designed to last 8 to 12 years, but often lasts about seven. You may not have to fit the 2005 Honda Accord alternator replacement cost for as much as 150,000 miles. It's not uncommon for one to fail at 80,000 miles, so it varies depending on the part and your car.

Cost of Resolving Your Honda Accord Alternator Problems

Alternator prices vary based on the supplier, shop, car, and engine. Replacing one for a 2000 Honda Accord with a 3.0L V6 engine may cost as little as $226 but as much as $449 (It tops out at $397 for a 2003 vehicle). In a 2.3L 4 cylinder engine, it can be around $400, sometimes as little as $190. The labor involved in this jobs is often minimal. Most of the bill will be for the part. Oftentimes the alternator belt is replaced at the same time. Also, prices vary by model year. Replacement for a 2012 Accord can max out at $545. Again, the part will always dominate the final price. That puts you at an advantage because even alternators at PartsGeek.com can be a fraction of what you would otherwise pay. Other ways to save include getting a rebuilt alternator, but why sacrifice quality when you can find what you need from a supplier committed to passing on savings to you? Our low overhead enables us to do just that and provide you with automotive parts you need to get started again.
