How To Make A Paper Rose
Step 1. Create 3 petal patterns from the free rose paper flower template pdf. Think heart shapes, make them wide and not too long. I used chipboard so that my patterns last longer, but you can just use cardstock paper. You can also download the rose template free in the links provided above.
Step 2. Trace each petal and cut 4 at the same time. You’ll need 12 petals altogether. Cut a slit at the center bottom of your petals vertically.
Step 3. For the center of the paper flower, cut a circle about 8.5″ wide. Scallop the edges like petals as you cut. Cut a spiral into the circle creating scalloped petals as you make your way to the center.
Step 4. Begin rolling the center paper flower and hot glue it down once you reach the center.
Step 5. Overlap and glue the flaps of each petal. This makes the petals more three dimensional.
Step 6. Start with the smallest petals and glue them to the small flower opposite each other.
Step 7. Fold some of the petals over, use a dowel to round some of the edges of the petals.

The roses are perfect for creating romantic flower backdrops for weddings or parties, and a single rose looks great as a wall ornament. We created the roses in an ombré effect and went from dark to light, choosing a deep mulberry tone for the outer petals and making the inner petals and centre light pink. Get your glue gun ready and let’s craft beautiful large paper roses! In our video tutorial we show how to do it in 5 easy steps!
What cardstock should I use to make paper roses?
Since we want to curl and bend the petals, it’s best to use a light-weight cardstock for this project, 65 lb cardstock is ideal. The petals are made with our printable large rose flower template, which you can download below.

How to attach paper roses
You have different options when it comes to hanging paper flowers. You can use a piece of ribbon a wire loop threaded through the base of the rose and then hang it on the wall using a nail or a hook. This presentation looks particularly great if you want to present a single rose as a wall ornament. If you want to assemble a floral backdrop, it can be more practical to use double-sided tape or command strips instead of a ribbon.

Instructions
- Create the base. To make the base, glue the circle template on a piece of cardboard and cut out a little larger than the template. If you want to hang the rose, make a small slit near the top of the circle and insert a piece of ribbon.
- Use the template. Print out the template and cut out the four petal shapes and the rose center. Lightly trace each template with a pencil and cut out the petals and center. You need five of each “XL”, “L”, “M” and “S” petals, as well as 3 rose centers.
- Shape the petals. Cut a small slit into the middle at the bottom of each petal. Using a hot glue gun, create an overlap. Be careful when handling the glue, it can be quite hot. Curl back the top edges of the “XL” and “L” petals. For the “M” and “S” petals, curl one edge forward and the other back. The handle of a wooden spoon works well for this.
- Build the center. Working with one rose center, curl both ends of one petal inwards and glue them into a cone. Curl the second petal outwards and glue it to the cone. Glue the two remaining centers together at a 90-degree angle. Curl one edge back, the other forward, and attach the cone in the middle. Now, glue the inwardly curled edges of the petals to the cone, forming a spiral.
- Assemble the flower. To assemble the flower, add a little hot glue to the bottom of the “XL” petals, and stick them around the cardboard circle. Allow the petals to overlap slightly. Add the next row of petals, the “L” petals, in-between the first. Continue this process with the “M” and “S” petals, and finish the rose by gluing on the center. To remove any glue strings blow over the flower with a hair dryer until the strings disappear.

Template paper rose
Make gorgeous paper roses with this free paper rose template
In today’s post: Learn how to make gorgeous paper roses with this free paper rose template in five beautiful colors.
Hello, my name is Autumn, and I kill plants. I think it’s the whole have-to-water-them-regularly thing. I just kind of never get around to doing that. I actually get quite a lot of things done each day, but the way I do it is by not getting around to doing other stuff, like signing my kids’ reading minutes charts or cleaning out the basement or, apparently, watering our plants. Something’s gotta give, right?
Hence: flowers made of paper.
I saw a tutorial for making paper roses at Capitol Romance years ago and decided last week to finally give it a try. I wanted my paper roses to look somewhat realistic, which meant I needed to use paper that was colored on both sides. The only problem is that most pretty printed paper is only colored on one side.
So I decided to make a printable paper rose template that includes a really pretty design that could be printed on both sides of a plain old sheet of paper. I started working on the template and a few hours later I had this:
Gorgeous, right? And, happily, it won’t die when I neglect to water it.
Printable paper rose template
I created these templates in five different colors for you. The one you see below is a purply/red and it’s my favorite. Each template has two pages: one is the front page and one is the back, so be sure to check “double sided” on your settings before printing. (Or just print page 1 and then re-feed the piece of paper before you print page 2 on the back.) This is what the front of the paper rose templates look like:
And the back is just a full page of the same pretty watercolor design. Download the paper rose templates by clicking below:

How to make a paper rose
Watch this video to see how to make a paper rose. Written instructions follow.
1. To make a paper rose, begin by printing a template on both sides of a piece of printer paper (not cardstock). Cut out each of the four squares on the paper rose template. Fold each square in quarters, making sure to keep the curved lines on top. Cut along the curved lines. Also snip off the corner or point of the heart to make a small hole.
2. Open up the papers and you’ll have four “petals”. Each petal has lines on it. Cut along the lines.
3. Discard the piece of paper that says “discard”. Now you will have 7 pieces: one with seven petals, one with six, one with five….all the way down to one with one petal.
4. Take the first piece and glue along one of the cut lines. Overlap the other cut line slightly and press together to adhere.
5. Repeat with all the pieces except for the one-petal piece. For that one, just use a toothpick to help curl it in on itself.
6. Roll the edge of each petal around a toothpick to curl it outward. You now have 7 sets of petals that you will layer together to make a paper rose.
7. Place a dot of hot glue about 1 inch from the top of a piece of floral stem wire (or any other wire).
8. Slide the biggest petal onto the stem and down to the dot of hot glue. Add more hot glue if needed to secure it to the stem.
9. Place another dot of hot glue inside the first petal and slide the next largest petal down on the stem. Add more hot glue and the next petal, and continue until you have added all the petals.
As you add petals, position each one so the petals don’t completely line up with the ones below it for a more natural look.
You may finish off your paper roses with some floral stem tape if you like (I didn’t).
I have a vase of these sitting up on a bookshelf and I love the touch of color they bring to the room. A whole bouquet of paper roses would be beautiful!

Video tutorial
I have seen so many people made this paper rose successful right at the first time.
Their tip is just opening the video and playing with replay/stop quite many times while imitating each step. So all you need is just a little bit of patience. 🙂
Step by step instruction

Step 1: Cut the petals with the free template.
You can choose any color paper you want, I made some with printer paper 80gsm (21lbs). But I found that paper from 120 gsm (32 lbs) to 160gsm works better for this rose.
On each flower, we will need 4 pink 5-petal- layers and 1 green sepal. The free template is in both PDF and SVG files now.
It means PDF file is for hand-cut. SVG file is for cutting machine.
If you cut by hand, be sure to use a sharp scissors, so that the petal cuts are neat.

Step 2: Form the curves of the petals
Use the edge of the scissor to curve the petal. Try to curl both sides of the petals.

Step 3: Assemble the petals
Glue the wire gauge #20 to the first layer. A small cool glue on the head of the wire will help to fix the stem with the flower.
Use your fingers and glue gun to attache the next layers accordingly. Please refer to video instruction for clearer view

Step 4: Finish the sepal, receptacle and the stem of paper rose.
Cut the sepal template on green paper color and glue at the bottom of the flower.
Then wrap a small strip of tissue paper to form the receptacle.
Use the green floral tape to wrap all the sepal and the stem.

Step 5: Make the rose bud
I made 2 types of the rosebud. The first one will need 1 layer (5 petals) only.
And the second rosebud will need 2 layers (equals 10 petals)
Following the steps of making rose flower above to finish the buds

Step 6: Make the paper rose leaves
Cut the leaf with the template.
Then use my technique in the video to cut the edge of the leaf will help the leaf be more realistic
Use the head of the scissor to create the leaf’s vein
Then glue the leaf with the wire gauge26 by white glue
After finishing the single leaves, arrange 5 leaves to make a rose branch.
You could find the tissue paper rose tutorial for my latest technique to make these rose leaves.

Paper rose tutorial from 2-size-petal template
I found that my previous version could be improved at many step, so that the roses are more beautiful and a beginner could success easier. I also updated the tutorial and template, please enjoy.

Video of paper rose tutorial
Step by step instruction

Step 1: Cut the templates
Wewill need 4 layers with 2 sizes for each rose flower. We will use the smaller size for the 1st and 4th layers, and the larger one for the 2nd and 3rd layers.
The template is nearly 4″ and the finished flower is 3.5″.
You can print the PDF file and cut by scissors.
Or you can use this paper rose template for Cricut, ScanNCut, Sihouette Cameo cutting machine.

Step 2: Form the curves of the petals
Please use an awl tool to form the petals.
Pls be patient with all of these small steps, because the petal curves are fine, the places of glue are correct, then your flowers will be pretty.

Step 3: Assemble the petals
Folding the pentagon shape at the bottom of each layer will help the flower be in precise shape.
It’s important to see where I glue at each layer, and how to curl the petals that help the flower in natural forms.
So please watch the video carefully.
You can set the slow speed in YouTube setting, or re-watch it as many time as you need.

Step 4: Make the sepal, receptacle and stem
Please see this paper rose tutorial to see how I assemble the stem easier.

Step 5: Make the rose buds
The new rose bud is made from just one layer. It is just like the first layer of the flower.

The above paper rose I made from updated version template, just curl the 3rd and 4th layers in different direction. And that leaf template is the first one of the SVG file.

It was this domestic woman of about thirty-five who explained to the girl the problems of sex. What and how to do it. Or what not to do. An episode emerged in Natasha's memory that happened nine or ten years ago - just when Sonya turned sixteen.
