Answer:A:

The printer's drivers should be sufficiently new (High Sierra 10.13.6?) for AirPrint

to work with both; have you tried instructions in Support article already linked?

"..Make sure it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your MacBook Air. IF

it’s connected and you still don’t see it, try adding it: open System Preferences,

click Printers & Scanners, then click Print. (You may have to temporarily connect

a printer to your MacBook Air using a USB cable and, if necessary, an adapter.).."

You may have a bit more issue in system upgrade to Catalina, with older 32-bit

drivers and software, in-use by other applications. ~ Catalina runs only 64-bit.

Your printer is indeed AirPrint capable. Be certain it has the latest firmware. And, of course your Mac should be running the latest MacOS version it can (presumably MacOS Catalina 10.15.4). Be certain your Mac and printer are using the same Wi-Fi network l

Run through the troubleshooting steps at the bottom of the support article to which I linked above. HP may also have support suggestions, such as perhaps a firmware update for the printer.

Regards.

It does, but it doesn't simplify WiFi issues, which are the most common cause of AirPrint not working correctly. It also presumes you have the printer correctly set up. I presume you do, but you may want to review the instructions just to make sure you didn't miss something.

Regards.

There's a list of printers that support AirPrint, the native mechanism for printing from iOS, here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356

If yours does not support AirPrint, HP has an app that enables printing to some of their other wireless printers. Third-party printing apps such as PrintCentral are also available. All such apps have limitations, so check them out thoroughly before you pay for any such app.

For other printers, you can route the printing through your computer. If you have a Mac, Printopia would be worth a look. Fingerprint is another option that is available for both Mac OS X and Windows system. You could also consider an AirPrint-capable print server. Lantronix makes a couple of models, including one that supports a USB printer:

Thanks for your prompt response. The Deskjet 2540 does support AirPrint so my preference is to use the wireless linkage if I can?
