Anybody have reviews of the Vance Manufacturing jack plates? Just got one for a good deal. It is the JPL 4500 adjustable 6" setback. It's going on my 21' Sprint with the Venom 200 to replace that disappointing rite hite JP. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I purchased a 6 inch plate directly from Vance a few years ago for my Triton. I actually installed it myself. It was easy to adjust the motor height and I have not had a single problem from it.

I'm impressed with the Vance Mfg jack plate. Seems very solid in rough water.

I'm unfortunate enough to own a Vance hydraulic jack plate. This thing is class A #1 junk. No if and or buts about it. It has never worked right from day one, it was sent back to the factory and replaced. The replacement didn't work right. After a few months of being able to raise the jackplate under power but having to stop or idle to lower it. They said I needed a new motor and pump, only way it's sold is a combination, which they sold me. The new motor and pump didn't solve the problem. This is on an aluminum 22' CC boat with a 115 Yamaha motor, no big deal not a heavy motor. I would not get in line to get a Vance if they gave em away. Hope you have better luck than I did, if not they make a good anchor.

You got hydraulic. I have a manual. I would have went with an Atlas or Bob's Machine Action hydraulic jack plate. When I'm ready for a HJP it will be out of those 2. Sorry for your pain.

I just put one on my Viper. It's a real nice plate, quality aluminum and nice workmanship. The hardware is not the most heavy duty, but it is stainless. It should have a threaded slat on place of the inner nuts so it's easier to loosen and tighten from the outside without needing a wrench on the inside to hole the nuts..
Also, I added a lock collar so it can be be lowered by the force of the adjustment bolt instead of gravity...which requires it to be way too loose to move. Without the collar, the bolt just backs off and it doesn't go down. The top side adjustment bolt is real handy though. If you are going to adjust it a lot, thicker side bolt washers would be a good idea.

this thread is gonna get deleted. The last time I brought up Vance Mfg. it got aced, probably because they are not a supporting vendor.

I had several people ask me what kind of Jack Plate it was, I told them hell I don't know, but I like it. They build a strong jack plate, I put a lot of torque on that 12" and it was perfect when I sold the boat. (damn, I miss that boat)

great product, heavy but great. i ran one on a 19' with 2.4bp in some very heavy seas with no issues. only thing that let it down was soon started corroding when sat in salt water marina. just need to make sure it is fully bleed.

Vance Manufacturing Jack Plates

Postby wmk0002 »

Does anyone have one of the 40hp and below manual jack plates made by Vance Manufacturing? They have two for that hp range: the JPL2412SB which has a 5" setback and the JPL2712SB which has 7" of setback. Both have 3" of vertical adjustment and the engine side of the plate is 2" higher than the transom side so you can get 5" of total offset if you need. Their prices seem very good tome. I purchased Dillon Racing jack plate plans a couple years back with the intention of building my own, however, I estimated the cost to still come out to about $100 or more. For double the money getting a good, quality, machined product is worth it to me. The 7" setback model seems like overkill and make it difficult to reach the tiller without an extension so I was leaning towards the 5" model. Would love some real life reviews on their products as well as advice on the setback to get.

My boat is a 1648 Alumacraft flatbottom currently powered with an OMC 15hp 2-stroke and the hull is max rated for 35hp. The boat is a 15" transom and my motors are all matching short shafts. I plan to get a 25hp 2 stroke this spring to match the hp restriction of a couple of local lakes. Ultimately, I would like to replace it with the newish Yamaha F25 4stroke. My current motors place the anti ventilation plate about 1" or so below the bottom of the hull. My rig as is performs pretty well but I would like to get an adjustable jack plate for better performance and the ability to fine tune the height for a number of motors.
