Preschoolers learn best when they do hands-on activities. When you&#;re teaching children numbers, they need to use manipulatives to help them understand what numbers are and what they mean. One of my favorite math manipulatives is snap cubes or Unifix® cubes. Not only are these great for working on counting and one-to-one correspondence, but they are wonderful for fine motor practice. Today I&#;m sharing snap cube number practice sheets. These are designed to help your little one practice numbers, counting, and even patterns!

The free printable has practice with numbers Each page has a place for the child to build the number using snap cubes. I left the printable black and white, so you can choose which colored cubes to use. If you want to work on patterns, you could have your child make the number using an AB or ABC pattern. Here is an example with an AB pattern.

This number 9 uses an ABC pattern.

You can also just do one color, if that&#;s easier. If you need snap cubes, I recommend using these.

There is also space for the child to practice writing the number. If they need assistance with writing numbers, I recommend checking out my number formation rhymes. You can also draw lines for the child to trace, if they need it.

The last space is for the child to show the number. They could use snap cubes or another math manipulative. The goal is to practice counting and one-to-one correspondence.

We have been known to use flash cards and practicing writing letters with a pencil but I see my kids&#; excitement decreasing quickly with activities such as this. In an effort to encourage them to enjoy learning the alphabet I have found activities that are hands on and using manipulatives that they like to use. Activities like this Free Printable Uppercase Alphabet Snap Cube Mats. My kids love using snap cubes. We have built many houses and roads with them, so I knew that they would be a hit for an ABC activity! These mats go perfectly with our lowercase alphabet snap cube mats and our number snap cube mats!

### Free Printable Uppercase Alphabet Snap Cube Mats

Snap cubes, like I said, have always been a source of entertainment for my kids. I love when they use them because although they see them as fun building blocks, I see them as so much more.

This full size printable for uppercase letters includes a space to use snap cubes to create the letter. This part of the activity is not only helping to form the letter, but also fine motor practice, hand eye coordination, strengthening and a tool to encourage their imagination.

The next part of this printable is that it shows three images and the written word of words that start with the letter being focused on. This introduces or reiterates the beginning sound of the letter for the child.

The bottom of the printable is a space for kids to practice writing the letter. There are a few examples and then ample space for kids to write it on their own.

EXPO Low-Odor Dry Erase Set, Chisel Tip, Assorted Colors, 8-Piece Dry Erase Pockets, 9 x 12 Inches, Assorted Colors, 30 Pockets per Pack

To Prep: Print out the free printable. If choosing to laminate, go ahead and do so. If planning on using the pouches, add the Alphabet Snap Cube Mat to the pouch.

To Use: Start with whichever letter sheet you are choosing. We start off by stating which letter it is, talking about the picture and what sound the letter makes. Next we build the letter with the snap cubes, while using the diagram on the sheet. When the letter is formed, we use the dry erase marker to write the letter a few times.

AlphaOops!: The Day Z Went First P Is for Pterodactyl: The Worst Alphabet Book Ever Eating the Alphabet: Fruits & Vegetables from A to Z (Voyager Books) Wild Animal Babies: An Alphabet Book TouchThinkLearn: ABC (Baby Board Books, Baby Touch and Feel Books, Sensory Books for Toddlers) Bugs A to Z

When the sheet is completely done, we undo the snap cubes letter and pick a new letter sheet.

If you child seems confused on the formation of certain letters, use it as a teaching moment to discuss with them how it is different than we would write it and see if they can develop a better way to form the letter with the snap cubes. This will actually help them remember the correct shape of the letters because more of their brain and body is involved.

### Snap Cube Number Mats

To prepare the snap cube number mats: Simply print and laminate. If you don&#;t want to laminate, I suggest putting the mats into some dry erase pockets so that the kids can use them many times and you don&#;t have to worry about printing extra copies.

To use the snap cube number mats: Have your kids create the number on each mat using their snap cubes. This is a great problem solving opportunity as the kids learn how to create corners and shape each number. It can be a little challenging at first, but they usually get the hang of it pretty quick.

One thing we&#;ve done is provide a lot of free time to play with the snap cubes, so that the kids can learn how to create different shapes and navigate corners with the cubes since they can only be inserted in one direction.

Along with the snap cubes, each mat provides space to practice writing the number and counting each number with individual blocks and ten-frames.

Giving the kids many ways to interact with the numbers helps them make concrete connections with the numerals.

Don&#;t have snap cubes? Be sure to grab some snap cubes here or use our simple play dough number mats instead!

### Now discussing:

Men. But friends are friends, they cannot be denied. We met and had a good evening, although all my thoughts were not with them. I thought, remembered, explained to myself. That evening there were many men to whom I paid attention, whose smells I eagerly absorbed, whose voices made my heart beat fast, often, whose bodies I admired.
