Boulder County, CO Employee Reviews

Productive and collaborative workplace

Principal Investigator Intern, E-Bike Policy Research (Former Employee) - Boulder, CO - December 4, 2019

To say that my expectations for the position were met would be an understatement! I have always been fascinated with the unique relationship between city/county government and its community members, and working for Boulder County gave me a valued perspective on that relationship.
Working at Boulder County, I have learned that any issue, no matter how large or small, can be controversial. People are always willing to voice their opinion, especially here in Boulder, and they’re not always even-tempered about it. Now that I’ve been on the receiving side, I have much more respect and admiration for the people who make sense of that process.
Finally, one of the most rewarding aspects of the job at Boulder County was the people I met throughout the process and the priceless lessons I learned from them.

We care about our clients.

Here’s what they have to say…

“Nick is that rare combination of contractor skills, home projects advice, and customer service. He showed up on time, took care of a small plumbing repair, and left our condo clean, treating me with respect as a homeowner despite the size of the job. What more can I ask for? I will be calling Nick again for the next job. Thanks Nick!”

-Mark Gershfeld

Skilled, reliable, trustworthy. Checks all the boxes. Couldn’t recommend more highly.”

-Chuck Leps

“Had Dave do some handyman work at our house. Very pleased with the work, plus friendly, and reasonably priced. Can't say enough good things!

-Pete Dignan

Highly recommend. Nick and his team not only did a beautiful job updating our kitchen and living room, he helped me proactively plan for my housing needs in 2019. It's good to know I have someone to turn to that I can trust, especially with things I used to slack on in the past. Nick is also knowledgeable in home energy and went above and beyond to talk to me about energy use and quality lighting. It shows when you hire someone that loves what they do.”

-Mathew Conforti

“We had Nick and his team repair a flagstone patio, and I couldn't be happier with the results. They are friendly and respectful, highly skilled, and very reasonable. I won't hesitate to call them again when the need arises.”

-Jennifer Harper

“Nick and his team are my go-to resource for the innumerable ongoing projects in our 110-year-old properties. He's responsive, professional, focused on quality, completes projects on-time, on-budget, and is always a pleasure to work with. Beyond the quality of his work, Nick is also just a high-quality human: his integrity is second-to-none, and he's become almost an extension of the family. I trust him with any project, big or small - we feel so very fortunate to have found a handyman of Nick's caliber. I recommend Gage & Company without hesitation!

“We stumbled upon Nick and crew via Yelp. This dude and his crew are the real deal: smart, problem solver, neat and super easy to work with on projects. We moved to Boulder (December 2018); and live in another city and state. In Boulder, we have a mountain home. There are a lot of issues to deal with (beyond normal property mgt stuff): water, septic, propane, inspections, no high speed internet (found solution); security system, Savant/AV system, lighting solution; picking up packages at UPS p.o. box (no mail can go to property); trash solution/idea, putting furniture together, on site for furniture/appliance deliveries, snow removal, and even taking all the boxes away. Our experience is (and has been) amazing. There is absolutely no way we could have been in our house without their skills, and help for a year. Plus we are coming from the city, I have no idea how to figure out how to do the above. Now that we have had time to settle in a bit...home automation, removing a wall to create open space, adding corner (3 sided) fireplace with glass walls. I feel like he will be a part of our family because he is that involved with making you happy with every detail and aspect of our home.”

-Christine C.

“We've enjoyed working with Nick and the Gage Home team a number of times at our office and at home. They've consistently provided quality craftsmanship and made big projects run smoothly. We can't recommend them highly enough, they are the most professional and reliable and crew we have hired.”

-Jamie Emerson

“We hired Nick's company to design and build out our new office space in Denver. He took our ideas and input, produced a great design, and delivered everything we could hope for in a timely manner. He was professional, showed up on time, and provided nothing but a can-do attitude. I would highly recommend his services to anyone looking for someone with a great attitude, superb attention to detail and commitment to exceeding expectations.”

- Dallas Hendricks

“I am so happy to be able to give Nick at Gage Home a fabulous review. He kindly repaired a broken chair for a child that was so easy for him and such a struggle for us. I am so definitely passing Gage Home site around and plan to call again for any handyman needs. What a professional talent! Thank you.”

“We had an absolutely wonderful experience working with Nick and his team. Nick is professional, responsive, and thoughtful in his work; he and his team also delivered an exceptional product. We are so grateful to Nick for his attention to detail and ability to communicate with the other professionals who were working on our home simultaneously. We highly recommend choosing Nick and GageHome!

-Catherine Lauderbaugh

“I had a great experience working with Gage Home for the first time recently. Nick was incredibly responsive and was very accommodating of a somewhat last-minute and tight window for installing trim, recruiting his partner to help finish the project in time. They showed up on time and ready, were communicative throughout, easy to get along with, helped show me some painting tips, and had a reasonable rate. Thanks, Nick and Dave!”

-Kate Borrasca

“We've been working with Nick for about a year now on projects for both the home and our office. He and his team have been wonderful partners on every project from constructing a backyard shed and general landscaping help to a corporate office renovation and painting.”

Get ready to get poorly managed

Staff Employee (Former Employee) - Boulder Campus - August 24, 2021

CU Boulder is a beautiful campus, but the beauty is only surface deep. Managers who have little true management experience are hired from outside primarily. HR must hire managers who say all the right things, because when management gets into managing, you can tell instantly they don’t know how to manage people and likely lied on their resume. Management gets away with everything (taking others’ raises for their own, not showing up to work with no repercussions, taking time away without adjusting their leave, the list goes on…) Management is not held accountable, while people working below them get treated like dirt. Non-management workers pick up the slack for management and end up overworked. There is little appreciation for hard work, very little flexibility for taking earned leave (sick or vacation time). Expect to be worked hard with nothing to show for it. HR does try to level the field for liveable wages but they say people can be promoted from within or can easily apply for other jobs within the company. While the systems exist to hire from within, many recent hires have gone to people from the outside. Expect zero advancement even after years of work.

It remained to be grateful to fate for the fact that the husband was far away and the servant was probably sitting by the pool on the occasion of a. Hot day. The screams of Natali, beating in my hands, further excited me.
