Household Hazardous Waste Event Dates: 
  • Thursday April 15              1pm - 6pm 33,lbs collected
  • Thursday May 13               1pm - 6pm 25,lbs collected

  • Saturday September 18     9am - 2pm   27,lbs collected

Household Hazardous Waste

  • Appointments are REQUIRED. Appointments will not be accepted until approximately one month before each event. 
  • Residential Sign Up is under the blue bar below.
  • Grand Traverse County residents may dispose of pounds of hazardous materials at no charge. A $/pound fee will be charged for quantities greater than pounds.
  • Electronics will not be accepted.
  • Examples of Household Hazardous Waste

Business/Organization Hazardous Waste

  • Appointments are REQUIRED for all non-residential businesses, organizations, and schools, etc.
  • Businesses do not use the online appointment system 
  • VSQG appointment (very small quantity generator) click here. Complete the form once per calendar year, at least 10 days prior to your first event. 
  • Hazardous material inventory click here. Complete the form at least 7 days prior to each event attending. T
  • There is a $/pound fee for quantities of hazardous waste greater than pounds. 

An organization qualifies as a Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG) IF:

  • No more than pounds (or about 25 gallons) of hazardous waste is generated in a given calendar month AND
  • No more than pounds of hazardous was accumulated in a given month.

Michigan Clean Sweep Program (Pesticides) 

The Michigan Clean Sweep Program helps protect the State's natural resources and prevent agriculture pollution by ensuring the safe and proper disposal of outdated, unused or unwanted pesticides in Michigan.

Grand Traverse County participates in the Clean Sweep Program and accepts pesticide products from all Michigan residents, agri-businesses, and farms without fee.
Clean Sweep is made possible by a strong and unique local, state, federal and industry relationship.

Featured Non Profit for September

Our featured nonprofit for September is the Michigan Brewers Guild!

Located in Lansing, MI, they are putting on some awesome events all over Michigan this fall, and do some amazing work with local brewers around the state!

The Michigan Brewers Guild is throwing the U.P. Fall Beer Festival on Saturday, September 11, at Mattson Lower Harbor Park in Marquette. General Admission is pm, with the gates opening at Noon for a VIP hour for Enthusiast Members. Tickets are $50 per person in advance, plus service fees. ($55 day of) with Designated Driver tickets for $ BARC is heading up to the UP to help with recycling and composting services for the event! Your ticket includes admission to the festival and 15 tokens for beer samples! Come enjoy the music and amazing MI drinks! For more info, visit their website!
