european lawmakers have voted to extend fossil fuel gas subsidies until , opening a potential back door to pollution that activists have said would be a disaster for the climate if it became law.

members of the european parliament&#;s industry committee voted on tuesday to allow the european union to continue subsidizing natural gas pipelines until the end of , as long as the energy is mixed with an unspecified amount of hydrogen.

hydrogen, which can be synthesized from fossil gas or renewable sources, is considered by policy makers as a vital stepping stone to net net emissions by

the committee also voted to allow natural gas projects, such as pipelines and storage facilities, to qualify for special status that would speed up approval, although it ruled out access to eu grants for such projects. campaigners estimate that between 50 and 70 natural gas projects could achieve &#;project of common interest&# ; status, an eu seal of approval that helps plans off the drawing board, obtain funding and exemptions from eu competition rules.

campaign group world witness it is estimated that about 70 gas projects can be eligible, producing million tons of carbon dioxide2 emissions per year, equivalent to burning coal in germany in

two controversial amendments to the eu&#;s regulation on energy infrastructure across europe were approved by members of the european parliament, barely three months after european commission he said the world is entering a &#;success or break decade&#; to tackle the climate crisis. the commission&#;s original &#;ten-e&#; text proposed removing special status for all natural gas projects as part of the union&#;s efforts to reach net zero emissions by

may international energy the agency said rich countries must decarbonize electricity generation by , while calling for an immediate moratorium on approval of new oil and gas fields.

european parliament elected record number of green meps in , usually the most ambitious player in the climate emergency in the european union&#;s law-making world. but on this occasion, activists were surprised and disappointed when meps watered down the original plans, by allowing natural gas companies to continue competing for special status, and opening the door to subsidies for any gas company claiming to be &#;hydrogen-ready&#;.

under the parliament&#;s blending settlement, energy companies blending an unspecified blend of fossil gas and hydrogen are eligible for eu subsidies until , as long as they have a plan to drop the gas by the end of the decade. even after eu subsidies are removed, the gas/hydrogen pipelines themselves will be eligible for fast-track approval until the end of

the european parliament&#;s position was formulated by zdzisław krasnodębski, a member of the hard-line polish law and justice party, who is deputy chair of the parliament&#;s industry committee.

he said, “the aim of this review is to align the ten-e chart with the goals of european green deal. however, we must also bear in mind that the energy consortium&#;s priorities remain valid and must be reflected in the rules governing support for critical energy infrastructure projects.” in addition to sustainability, he said projects will be evaluated based on their contribution to energy security, market integration and sustainability. costs to consumers.

his latest compromise was supported by most members of the european parliament in the largest political groups, including the center-right european people&#;s party, the center-left socialists and democrats, and the center-rinio group. green meps abstained from voting.

parliament will now enter negotiations with eu energy ministers, who left much less room for gas projects when they agreed negotiating red lines earlier this year.

&#;today&#;s vote would be a disaster for the climate if it was reflected in the final law,&#; said tara connolly, senior campaigner at global witness. &#;the science is clear: we need to urgently phase out fossil gas to prevent the worst effects of climate collapse. eu member states should not be deceived by this gift to the fossil fuel industry, and plug the loopholes that would allow for fossil gas subsidies when negotiations begin.”

it was the best possible deal, said eric bergqvist, a swedish social democrat who was involved in the settlement. “what could have been the alternative? of course we could have stopped the negotiations, but then we know we would have had an outcome that would have been much worse. the main thing we were asking for… was an expiration date for fossil fuel investment. you have an expiration date, otherwise there will be no gradual termination.”

he expressed optimism that the fossil fuel gas subsidized by the european union will only exist in small quantities, when mixed with a low percentage of carbon dioxide.2 hydrogen. “we have to remember that the blending is low carbon. the main proportion will be renewable hydrogen gas.”

while acknowledging that the fossil gas/hydrogen mixture had yet to be determined &#; important for further negotiations with the eu &#; he insisted it would be &#;too narrow and too difficult for fossil fuels&#;. hydrogen/fossil gas mixture can&#;t be 95% carbon [dioxide]&#;.

environmentalists do not share this optimism. they will conserve rare and expensive renewable hydrogen for industries that are difficult to decarbonize, such as fertilizers. mixing hydrogen with natural gas, connolly said, was like &#;mixing champagne with table wine.&#; &#;want to use [hydrogen] where you are most valuable, otherwise you are placing an enormous amount of costs on everyone.”

BFuel Gauge

When the key switch is on, the fuel gauge indicates the

fuel level.

Be careful not to empty the fuel tank. Otherwise air may

enter the fuel system.

Should this happen, the system should be bled (See

The parts were purchased from gciron.com  I guess they were from a CASE or Bobcat

Oh, and I guess the governed speed was on those applications.  I had to source turbo gaskets from a New Holland that had a Shibaura engine governed at rpm.
Nice thing about using genuine parts rather than something from a hardware store is that you know good spring steel was used and that they won't resonate at engine rpm and cause a failure.  I've had to design a few springs at work, they are way more complicated than they look!

I tried to order the parts online and got a message at checkout that I needed to make a minimum $ purchaseso I called my local Kubota dealer and ordered them. They said it would take about a week and the total was under 10 bucks. Smile

Haha, maybe THAT was why I ordered so much from the other placeLOL.  Sounds like you went the right way.
BTW, installing those danged springs was a real nail biter.  I recall having a piece of string or something tied around the ends of them in case they got loose and fell to the bottom of the front engine cover.  You'll notice that the outer spring has no hook on one end, just a 90 degree bend (which hooks to the rack towards the rear of the engine).  I believe it locks in place based on the inner spring.  I was uneasy about the design until I got them installed.  Yeah, they aren't gonna fall off.

YepI remember changing the spring to the one that Greg sent with my kitit was easier when I did it on the engine stand. I might just leave the thing alonedon't know yet. I have had a problem with the engine dying at stop lights, which seems to be better when I keep the idle a little higher than I'd like. Perhaps these springs will solve that issue too?
Too cold to be messing with it right now anyway. T&#;ngue

I've noticed that I cant set idle below RPM.  Too much vibration.  Down under , I start getting an idle lope, where the idle undershoots when you let off and then oscillates a little.  I can definitely see why Buck was looking in to better engine isolaters.  When I leave warm idle at RPM, it just drops down and hold nicely and doesn't vibrate everything.  A reliable RPM idle is probably achievable with these springs if you don't mid the vibration.

My engine, even when idled down has never had much vibrationat least not any more than the stock Willys L head. I don't have a tach on my Jeep but I would say it's around to RPM at idlejust a bit higher that I likebut it seems to run pretty well)

The vibration comes on like a switch.  I would say that mine is nice and smooth around too.  I guess its just a resonant frequency below that.
If you are interested, I can go through the details of how to add a small 2 1/16" diesel tach.  There is a way to run a signal wire to your kubota alternator to drive it.  You simply pull the tin alternator rear cover off and hook a small wire in to one of the 3 coils.  It then provides a pulse signal to the tachometer.
I have one similar to this one.  Got a screaming deal on ebay, but they are only about $80 full retail.  You will only need a tachometer gun once in order to calibrate it.  I borrowed one from work, but they are pretty common.

Thanks for that info Peter. I have a tach on my K20 with the diesel that is wired up to the alternator so I am familiar with wiring them. That is a nice little VDO tach. So far I have not really thought about putting in a tach in the Jeep but I will consider it. Thanks for the link. Smile
Tell me more about this tachometer gunI bought an inexpensive hand held optical tachometer that Greg sent me a link for and I really have not messed around with it very muchI think it might be the same thing?

Yeah, most likely the same.  What I used has a roll of reflective tape with it.  Just cut a small piece off and stick it to the crank pulley.  That gives a target for the tach gun to get an optical signal from.

Alright PeterI bought an Autometer tach on Ebaynew in box and it does not seem to workthought it might be the sensor for the alternator pickup so I called Autometer and they sent me another sensorit still does not workI even tried a different alternatorstill no luckso now I'm out bucks and I still have no tachsoCry
Please post the details of how you added your tachometer and I will be forever grateful.
I was going to order a TinyTach but it's digital and in my opinion an old Jeep needs an analog tach
Thanks buddy! Smile

hm I had no problems with my autometer tach and alternator pickup.  You may need to play around with the placement of the sensor, though I honestly didn't have to.  Even when I changed alterators, I didn't have problems with the sensor on the new one.

Or maybe the tach itself is DOA.

Hi Daniel,
You got a picture of where you placed the sensor? I tried it in several places on the Kubota and on my old Chevy and the tach needle would not even jump????

Dollars to donuts, I bet the tach is dead.  If it's a sensor placement issue, I imagine there would still be some movement on the needle.

I'll grab a photo of my sensor placement.

I agree that the tach is probably deadalthough when I apply power, the needle jumpsThis is what I get for trying to save a few bucksIf I had ordered it from Summit Racing or another vendor, I might have some recourseoh welllive and learn. Cry

Sometimes there are little DIP switches that you have to configure correctly in order for the tachs to work with an alternator pick-up rather than an ignition coil.  Not sure about the AutoMeter, but for my VDO there was.
The sensor wire of the tach can be hooked directly in to one of the AC coils prior to the rectifier.  So there is really no "sensor".
First, pull the rear tin cover off of the alternator.  You have to remove the three screws and the main battery stud nut and plastic insulator.

Underneath is a rectifier bridge that looks like this.  Hooks a small gauge wire ( gauge for example) with ring terminal to one of the three outer screw terminals.  The screws are not shown, but when you get the cover off, you will see some screws with a little wire loop that leads from the alternator coils.  Choose one of the three locations, it doesn't matter which.  You can see the important ones on the outer perimeter, they are partially shrouded. There are actually 4 locations, but I believe only 3 will have a wire loop around them from the coils.

This wire that you hook in will need to be insulated and pass through the tin cover when you replace the cover.  The wire is hooked directly to the third terminal of the tachometer (Other two are positive and ground).  This wire will give you a certain number of pulses per engine revolution now.  I forget what it is, but I think you get three pulses for every TACHOMETER revolution.  However, the tech rotates more than one revolution for every engine rev.
I gave you the link for the tachometer I used above, but you can use any tach that offers an "alternator" or " W terminal" Or "Pulse per revolution" style input.  Personally, I like the VDO diesel gauge because you can get a RPM full range.  You won't use very much of a RPM range gauge.  You could even go with a RPM range gauge if you want a larger 3 3/8" gauge.

Once you get it hooked up, as I say, you have to mess with DIP switches until you get it working and somewhat in a reasonable range for RPM.  In this document, for the VDO, you would use the lower half of the diagram D.  DIP number one is off, the other two DIP switches must be played with until the tach comes alive and reads somewhat close.  Once you get it working, you turn a small POT in order to dial it in to perfect.  So, essentially, the DIP switches are a coarse adjustment, and the POT is a fine adjustment.
