Seattle-Area Fishing Charters Join us for an enjoyable day on the waters of Puget Sound on a charter boat. Washington state salmon fishing is a must-experience to anyone visiting the Seattle area.
We depart out of Edmonds, just 20 minutes north of Seattle and right on the Puget Sound. During salmon season, we take you to the fish that are so fun to catch. In the winter months, we offer blackmouth sportfishing charters.
Our stable 28' Uniflite Salty Dog boat with an 11' wide beam is one of the most preferred boats for this sport. It's equipped with state-of-the-art electronics, a marine head (toilet), diesel heater, on-deck cooler with ice, and the latest electric downriggers.
The "DOGHOUSE" is a Coast Guard licensed and insured vessel for 6 people. However, we prefer to limit our charters to 4 people for convenience, comfort, and social distancing.
We know you have lots of choices when it comes to catching salmon, but our preferred method--downrigging--has proven results. This technology allows for the use of lighter gear to further intensify the fighting feeling of the fish and therefore enhancing your salmon fishing experience.
Since no one can guarantee you will catch fish, Northwest Fishing Charters does guarantee that we will try our hardest to ensure your salmon charter experience is memorable.
Whether you are a visitor to the Seattle area, or a local, a day on the Puget Sound with NW Fishing Charters is a must!

There are many popular fishing species in the Puget Sound. Contact us if you need any help learning about what's in season!
Chinook (King) Salmon
The chinook is also known as the King Salmon. It is distinguished by dark spotting on the back (and usually on both lobes of the tail), a long anal fin, and teeth set in black gums.
The ocean-type chinook generally spends a brief time in freshwater streams. It then migrates to estuary waters, where it may stay for an extended time before heading out to sea. Of all salmon species, "ocean-type" (fall) chinook rely most on estuaries and nearshore waters along Puget Sound.
Chum (Dog) Salmon
Chum salmon, also known as dog or keta salmon, are usually the last of the Pacific salmon to enter fresh water, spawning in early winter.
Chums are distinguished by distinct dark vertical bars along their sides. Color ranges through blacks and grays to a drab reddish hue in the advanced stages of spawning. Males develop such a sharply hooked nose that their large, dog-like teeth become totally exposed. Females have the barred coloration along the sides but do not have the other characteristics.
Coho (Silver) Salmon
Coho are also known as Silvers (and Bluebacks when caught before full maturity). They are the most popular game salmon, as well as one of the most valuable commercial species.
When coho enter estuary waters, they may be two years old and relatively large. As larger smolts, coho may pass quickly through estuaries and out to sea. In some cases however, the transition to the ocean may be prolonged. Some coho never leave costal waters and return early to spawn as immature "jacks".
Pink (Humpy) Salmon
Pink salmon, also known as Humpies, live only about two years. While spawning, the males develop a humped back. Both male and female change color from bright silver to pale gray with a white to yellow belly.
Pink salmon begin migrating almost immediately. They move rapidly into tidal channels and nearshore nursery areas, often in schools. After a few weeks to a few months here, they move offshore, where they migrate at sea for months.
Sockeye (Red) Salmon
The sockeye is historically our most commercially valuable fish because of its high oil content and ability to hold its red color in the can.
While spawning, male Sockeye have a humped back and hooked noses, while female Sockeye retain their natural shape. Both male and female turn from their normal blue-tinged silver color to varying shades of red when they reach the spawning streams.
Steelhead are large rainbow trout that go to sea. Young steelhead spend two to three years in streams developing. Studies show that steelhead from the Puget Sound area are genetically distinct from other regions.
Returning steelhead fresh out of ocean carry a blue-black spotted back with silver sides and an alabaster belly (known as Chromers). Fish that spend time in the river return to their traditional colors of a rainbow trout.
