Overwatch Best Crosshair Settings [Top 5]

Overwatch Best Crosshair Settings [ Top 5 ]

Ah, so you are wanting to take your Overwatch gaming to the next level ayh. Well, there are many ways to improve your skills as an Overwatch player, but there is one step you must take before any other. That step being to modify your crosshairs.

Eh, you don’t think that is important? Well, let me tell you that your crosshairs can be the deciding factor in getting a successful kill or not. Or having the wrong crosshairs on certain heroes can make them more difficult to play. So now settle down as I relay this very important information that was once entrusted to me. Now dear chaps, before we get into the hard meat of this matter there are a few things that we need to cover.

First, make sure that your crosshair is at 100 opacity. It may be tempting to make your crosshair a bit see-through, but I assure you that is a bad idea. Overwatch is a busy/ colorful game, so your crosshair will get easily lost in the surrounding areas or on the enemy players. Now, this leads me nicely to my second point. Use bright colors for your crosshair.

Overwatch has many different colors to pick from, but I highly implore you not to use any of the darker colors. Just like I mentioned before, Overwatch is very, very colorful and the darker colors would (once again) easily get lost in the busy background of the maps. So without further ado, let’s get on with explaining these crosshair settings and their main purpose in Overwatch.

1. Standard Crosshair

Overwatch Soldier 76

The “Standard Crosshair” is well, your standard crosshair. Even though this isn’t the most exciting crosshair out of the boat, it will still get the job done. This crosshair will work the best for heroes like Soldier, Orisa, Mie, Symmetra, etc. In other words, heroes that do not require superior aiming to play.

2. Aid- Aiming Crosshair

Overwatch Hanzo

This Crosshair is not really supposed to be a permanent one. The “Aid Aiming Crosshair” is a temporary tool for those who are having a hard time using the sniper heroes in Overwatch. It helps the player to measure up their shots by using the crosshair length as a scale on the enemy's body to line up for the headshot. With enough practice and patience, you will be able to graduate to the next crosshair coming up.

3. Maximum Aiming Crosshair

Overwatch Widowmaker

Ah, the “Maximum Aiming Crosshair” truly is one of the most difficult crosshairs to master in the game. This crosshair is designed for those who have graduated from the “Aid Aiming Crosshair” and want to take their sniping skills to the next level. The “Maximum Aiming Crosshair” forces the player to aim perfectly for the heads of the enemy team. Once mastered though, you will become a foe that no one in their right mind would go up against. This crosshair is a perfect match for the hero's Widowmaker, Ana, Hanzo, Ashe, etc.

4. Spread Crosshair

Overwatch Roadhog

Now, this crosshair is made for the heroes who have spread fire like Roadhog, Reaper, Bastion, etc. Since their line of fire isn’t just going in one straight line, the “Spread Crosshair” gives the player a general idea of where their ammo is going.

5. Non- Aiming Crosshair

Overwatch Pharah

The “Non-Aiming Crosshair” was designed for heroes who require very little to no aim. For instance, heroes like Pharah and Junkrat don’t rely on aiming, rather they just start shooting in the general direction of the enemy. Or Winston who doesn't need to aim altogether, therefore making it pointless to have a big crosshair in the middle of your screen.

And there you have it laddies, the top 5 best crosshair settings in Overwatch. I hope that this information helps you on your journey to becoming the greatest Overwatch player ever. Take care till next time my dear friends.

So you want to use a pro gamer crosshair?

Having the right crosshair for your hero is an essential part of mastering Overwatch. A fundamental part of any FPS game, your crosshair allows you to track where your bullets will hit.

Depending on the gun, fist, or hammer, different crosshairs can vastly improve your gameplay experience. If you’re playing Doomfist or Reaper, you could try a mid-sized circle crosshair to hit big AOE shots. Playing Ana? Use a 5x5 crosshair like streamer ML7 to track long and close range targets.

While you won’t immediately rank up to Grandmaster after you tweak your crosshair, you will be able to track your targets more effectively and have a better idea of what your gun is aiming at.

5. Ryujehong

At number five, we have the Korean support god, Ryujehong, known for his superhuman aim and mastermind plays. He won the 2016 and 2017 Overwatch World Cup, carrying as the Korean team’s flex support. Ryu is also considered one of the best Ana players in the professional scene.

Ryujehong is a legendary gamer, so it’s only natural he uses the green dot of death. The dot combined with low sensitivity is especially good for Zenyatta, a signature pick for the Seoul Dynasty flex support.

  • The maximum amount of information on screen due to small crosshair size.
  • Improves your aim instinct rather than rely on crosshair placement.
  • The dot combined with a lower sensitivity can improve your aim if you have a larger mousepad to work with.

Ryujehong’s eDPI is 1720, or 400CPI at 4.30 sensitivity.

4. Super

Another great crosshair for Overwatch comes from one of the most decorated competitive Overwatch players, the American main tank and captain, Super of San Francisco Shock. As he loves to remind his Twitch viewers, his titles include: two-time Overwatch League Champion, World Cup Champion, Stage 2 Champion, May Melee Tournament Champion, Role Star, All Star, and MVP Runner-Up.

Super uses a mid-sized green crosshair with a medium-sized opening. Being a Reinhardt player, his primary focus is protecting his team with his shield, as well as swinging on his enemies when the time is right.

  • Mid-sized crosshair is great for flex tank heroes like Sigma or Hammond.
  • The 11 crosshair length allows you to accurately aim at head height at all times.
  • Higher sensitivity can be useful for hitting targets and shielding your teammates faster as Reinhardt.

Super uses 6200 eDPI, or 800CPI at 7.75 sensitivity.

3. ChoiHyoBin

At number three, we have another SF Shock player, the Korean Off-Tank player ChoiHyoBin. Choi is known for his Dva and Roadhog and was the T-Mobile Grand Finals MVP in the 2019 Overwatch League, and recently won the 2020 Overwatch League Grand Finals with the SF Shock.

Choi uses a medium blue circle + dot crosshair, which is quite common for heroes that do spread damage such as Roadhog, Dva, or Reaper.

  • With shotgun heroes such as Dva and Roadhog, a circle can be a more effective crosshair to show where the spread damage will land.
  • Depending on the spread of the gun, you can change the size of the crosshair.

ChoiHyoBin uses 4000 eDPI, or 800CPI at 5.00 sensitivity.

2. Sinatraa

Another player from the most dominant teams in recent memory, SF Shock, Sinatraa is an American DPS and Off-tank player who was the Regular Season MVP, World Cup MVP in the year SF Shock won the Overwatch League and World Cup Championships.

Sinatraa has since left SF Shock and Overwatch to play Valorant with the Sentinels.

Sinatraa uses a red crosshair with slightly lower opacity to compensate for the bold red color of the crosshair.

  • Compared to the green crosshair, red catches your eye quicker and lets you track targets better.
  • This crosshair can be good for DPS heroes, especially tracking heroes like Soldier, Zarya, or Tracer.

Sinatraa uses 72000 eDPI, or 800CPI at 9.00 sensitivity.

Ranking first, we have the Korean Zenyatta God himself, JjoNak of New York Excelsior. His notable achievements include the T-Mobile MVP in the Inaugural Overwatch League, as well as World MVP in the 2018 Overwatch World Cup. He is currently captain of the New York Excelsior.

JjoNak uses a small green crosshair with a small opening. The small crosshair combined with a low sensitivity is especially good for Zenyatta, JjoNak’s signature hero.

  • Small crosshair size enables you to see your enemies more clearly while still tracking at head height.
  • A tighter grouping of crosshair is good for hitscan heroes like Mcree or Widow.
  • Considered a top-tier crosshair by expert Overwatch players.

JjoNak’s eDPI is 2000, or 1000CPI at 2.00 sensitivity.

Ultimately, crosshair settings are up to your own personal preference and can vary from player to player, as well as hero to hero. Changing your crosshair by itself won’t make you an aimbot killing machine. However, with these pro gamer examples to serve as your guide, you’ll be getting a lot more kills and wins on Overwatch in no time.

  • Additional Tips when Choosing your Crosshair Settings

For most FPS games, crosshairs may seem just like a guide to the center of the screen.

But for Overwatch, it’s much more than that.

overwatch heroes reticles

Since Overwatch is not your typical FPS game, fiddling with your crosshair may give you an advantage than just using the default crosshair settings.

The key here is compatibility and preference.

There are no right and wrong crosshair settings but it ultimately depends on the player and the hero they’re using. Some heroes require specific crosshair settings while others don’t.

If you’re confused as to what crosshair settings to use, here’s our guide to the best crosshair settings in Overwatch.

What are Reticles in Overwatch?

best crosshair overwatch

The reticle is the crosshair or the aiming point in your screen when playing FPS games.

This is simply the guiding point to which you aim your target and eliminate them.

For most FPS games, there’s not much option to change your crosshair settings. But for Overwatch, it is highly recommended that you change your crosshair settings based on your preference and hero.

Here are some things to consider:

Type – You can choose which type of reticle you prefer in Overwatch: default, circle, crosshairs, a circle with a combination of crosshairs and dot. Note that the default reticle may not be the same for every hero.

Color – When it comes to the color of the reticle, you don’t want it to blend to your background. Bright colors are preferred since they guide you every time to the center. There are some heroes where you’d want to see through the crosshair. Try experimenting to see what fits for you.

Accuracy – The reticles can also show how accurate a shot is. Some hero’s accuracy changes the more they shoot such as Tracer and Sombra. The important thing to note is that the farther away the reticle is from the center, the less accurate it becomes.

Now that we know that certain crosshair settings work for specific heroes only, what are the recommended settings for every hero then?

While we can’t cover all the heroes since the roster is increasing, we’re here to guide you on the best crosshair settings for most heroes.

Type: Default crosshair

Heroes: D.Va, Junkrat, Pharah, Roadhog, Bastion, Lucio, Doomfist, Mercy, Winston, Zarya, Torbjörn

Reason:  The above heroes are mainly tanks and healers that’s why they don’t need further tweaking in terms of crosshair settings. However, depending on what other roles you take, you might need to change it up a little.

However, depending on what other roles you take, you might need to change it up a little.

Type: Circle with a dot in the center, accuracy off, the center gap between 30 and 35, and dot size is 4.

Heroes: Sombra, Reaper, Tracer, Orisa

Reason: The common denominator of these heroes is that they are not precision shooters. These heroes have a spread so it’s wise to go with a smaller circle as much as possible. Having a larger circle may hurt your accuracy making you think you’re hitting your target but, you’re missing your shots.

Type: Dot size 8, opacity 80.

Heroes: McCree, Ana, Widowmaker, Zenyatta, Genji

Reason: We chose these crosshair settings for these heroes because precision and accuracy are of the utmost importance when playing them. These crosshair settings give the best of both worlds while maintaining comfortability too.

Soldier:76 – For Soldier:76, the best reticle type is Crosshair, show accuracy on, thickness 1, crosshair length 12, opacity 80 and the dot size is 2. This is just the smaller version of the default crosshair settings but it improves your accuracy by a mile.

Moira – The bestReticle type is Circle and the center gap 75. This is based on the actual length of the damage she does.

Hanzo – For Hanzo, the recommended reticle is the default one. However, this may not be the case for everyone. So, it’s best to find what works for you.

Mei – For Mei, you can go with a Crosshair reticle type, length 8 and 6 for the center gap. However, you can also opt for the default reticle if that suits you better.

Additional Tips when Choosing your Crosshair Settings

Additional tips when choosing crosshair settings best crosshairs overwatch

There’s a lot that goes to choosing the best crosshair settings for your choice of heroes.

Here are some additional tips to help you narrow it down further.

  • When choosing a reticle type, it’s all entirely on your preference. However, most pros go for a smaller circle since it gives them more accuracy and fewer distractions.
  • When choosing a reticle color, find the middle ground that gives you visibility while still allowing you to see what you’re aiming.
  • When choosing a color, it’s best to pick a bright color. However, most players pick green since this seems to be the color that the human eye can distinguish easily.
  • Try to practice with your selected crosshair settings before using it in actual battle. You might find that certain crosshair settings don’t work that well when a lot of things are happening in a battle.

We hope our guide on the best crosshair settings for Overwatch has helped you in your quest of finding the best crosshair settings. The trick here is to keep experimenting and learning on what works best for you and specific heroes.

  • Reticle type: circle with a dot in the middle. Show accuracy off. Center gap between 30 and 35, dot size 4.

I would use something bright like green or yellow crosshair at 6 length and 4 gap with 100% opacity. There isn’t really a rule for the perfect crosshair. Whatever let’s you read your target movement the best while having a clear reference is best.

It is a matter of personal preference for sure, but definitely can make a difference in your performance. That’s true, but it always helps to have options and understand them.
