The Sims 4: How To Find, Install And Update Mods

Quick Links

If you love The Sims 4 but find yourself annoyed that certain features still aren't in the game, then mods can be the answer. The modding community works hard to fill in the gaps offering everything from small quality of life additions to brand new features and functionality.

The best news is that mods aren't as complicated as you may expect and they are completely free to download and use. However, despite the fact that mods are relatively easy to install, the process is more complex than when you are dealing with custom content, which adds create-a-sim or build and buy objects. They are also more likely to cause issues in your game and require more frequent updates.

In this guide, we take a look at where to find mods, what they can do, and how to download and install them. We also look at how to minimize any negative impact on your game experience, especially after patches are released. In short, here's everything you need to know about modding The Sims 4.

Updated August 9, By Helen Ashcroft: As The Sims 4 grows some mods have become outdated and others have become more complex. Making sure youcorrectly install your mods and keep them up to date is vital so we've updated this guide to ensure the information is clear, easy to follow and will help you have a great experience with mods.

What Modding The Sims 4 Adds To Your Game

A mod is anything that affects the way your game behaves. This can be something as small as mods to change annoying Sim behaviorslike washing dishes in the bathroom or calling you at 3 am, through to game-changing features such as the addition of a new hobby, career, or skill.

Mod creators are passionate fans who want to add more to the game they love. They can also often do things that would not be allowed officially, such as NSFW content. The Sims team is very supportive of the modding and cc community, which has led to some amazing creations, and more recently collaborations.

How To Find Mods For The Sims 4

Many Mod creators have their own websites but there are also some which allow modders and CC creators to make and maintain profiles and share their work without the need for a separate website.

The main thing to be aware of is that no one should be charging for mods or custom content. It is acceptable for these to be behind a limited-time paywall, such as being offered early-access as a Patreon reward, but they should be publically released after a few weeks. It's also worth steering clear of anything that uses adfly, as this is known to causes issues in some cases.

If you want to browse through some mods without having to visit and access a tonne of websites then we recommend taking a look at these sites that curate and host mods and custom content :

The Sims Resource hosts thousands of mod and custom content creations. Those who wish to share their creations can add a profile to the site and post all their content. The site runs on ad revenue but also offers a subscription that offers access to an ad-free alternative. The site is well-loved and trusted within the community and many creators who have their own sites also add creations here.

Mod The Sims hosts a huge amount of mods for The Sims 2, 3, and 4. It also offers creators the chance to have a profile to link all their creations together. You'll find not only mods but also tutorials and other advice.

How To Download Mods For The Sims 4

The first step is to download your chosen mod by using the download links on the site of your choice. Most will come with instructions but the process is pretty much the same.

If you are worried about viruses then the following simple steps will help you stay safe:

  • Download from large and trusted sites recommended by the community.
  • Don't download anything with an Ad-Fly link.
  • Keep your anti-virus software turned on and up to date.

What are Script Mods And Do I Need To Unzip Them?

Important Info About Script ModsScript mods are usually downloaded in the form of zip files due to their size but should NOT be unzipped. Any other mods will likely be a .ts4script or .package file. If you aren't sure if a mod should be unzipped then double click the zipped file and check the extension of the file inside.

If it is a .pyc file this means it is a script mod and you should leave it zipped.

Note: Any mods that are .pyo files are now out of date and will not work.

How To Install Mods In the Sims 4

Once you have the mod file downloaded it should be copied into the mods folder. You can have subfolders inside the mods folder if you wish to organize the content you download. The mod folder will usually be found under:

  • Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods

Once you've copied your mods into the folder, you'll then need to adjust the in-game options.

The Sims 4 now requires players to enable mods in their game. To do this you need to go to the options menu and find the Other option as shown above. There are two boxes to check here.

  • "Enable Custom Content and Mods" - This enables all custom content and non-script mods.
  • "Script Mods Allowed" - Since script mods affect more of the game's code these are turned on separately here.

Updating And Resolving Issues With Sims 4 Mods After Patches

Every time a new patch is released it can break your mods and cause issues since mods alter the game code in the same way patches do. Due to this, it's recommended that you frequently copy your Mods folder to another location as a backup. We also advise backing up your Saves folder, so you don't lose your save data, and the Tray folder, which holds the lots and families in your game that aren't saved to the gallery.

When you first start The Sims 4 after a patch make sure you have a blank Mods folder and check the stability before adding any external content back into the game.

Note: After every patch a large number of players have issues caused by mods or cc they have forgotten to remove. Make sure you've backed up and entirely removed everything before you start the game after a patch. This allows you to check the stability of the patch before you start altering your game code.

When you do add content back in, CC is less likely to cause issues so we advise re-adding this first. Before adding mods you need to check for updates.

Often modders will test their own work and post on socials or their website about pending updates or any issues. However, bear in mind that some older mods will no longer be supported, and modders in general have lives and usually other jobs, so fixing issues can take time. Respect their time and their hard work by not pestering for update news the second a patch drops.

Related: Sims 4: Essential MM (Maxis Match) CC

The best way to ensure your mods are up to date is to check the page you got the mod from and look for either an update or confirmation that the mod is fine. Some modders also post on social media when their mods break and are updated.

Once a new mod is confirmed to work or updated, replace it if necessary and then start your game. However, before you do, make sure that you retick the boxes to enable both mods and CC, as patches often uncheck these.

You can either add your mods in one at a time to test stability or add them all in then either remove one at a time or start again adding in one at a time only if you have issues.

For those who want an easier solution, there are other options, including Raxdiam's Mod Manager, which allows drag and drop installs.

The Risks Of Modding The Sims 4

There are always rumors that mods will break your game, give you viruses, etc but this is very unlikely to happen. In order to ensure you are safe, we recommend the following:

  • Download from trusted sites
  • Listen to community members' experiences on social media or forums
  • Avoid anything that uses Adfly
  • Keep any anti-virus software you have up to date.

You can use an ad-blocker if you wish but this will prevent hosting sites like TSR or creators themselves from receiving ad revenue that could go towards paying for their website costs and time.

Most modders will offer information and support on their websites or through their social channels if you come across any issues with their mods. Just remember that you are dealing with people who are doing this as a hobby for the most part. As such replies can take time. Deal with modders politely and they'll be more inclined to help you out. After all, they are offering their skills and time for free and that should always be respected.

Happy modding!

New mods appear all the time on ModTheSims—which has long been the go-to hub for creators—every week. There, you’ll find everything from minor tweaks to complete reworks of major systems. Some modders, including LittleMsSam and KawaiiStacie, have even got so popular that they've created bespoke websites for their growing list of creations.

The biggest challenge with Sims 4 mods is determining which ones still work. Some mods are faithfully updated, but others have broken over time with new patches and features added by EA.

With that in mind, here’s a collection of the top up-to-date mods for The Sims 4, from the tiny to the virtual life-changing. Make sure you read the installation instructions for each one, and check for any conflicts to make sure you’re not running two that will clash.

How to install Sims 4 mods

How do you install mods for The Sims 4? Luckily it's pretty simple, especially if you only want to make a couple tweaks.

To install Sims 4 mods, you can drag and drop the mod folders you've downloaded into your Sims 4 "Mods" folder. The game should automatically have created one for you after you start up the game for the first time.

Your mods folder is located in: Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods.

Once you're in game, you'll also need to enable mods in your game settings by going to your Options menu under the Other tab. Make sure to check off "Enable Custom Content and Mods" and "Script Mods Allowed" depending on what you've chosen to install. You'll need to restart your game afterwards.

Always check out the installation instructions for any mod you download just to be sure there aren't any more additional steps. Most should just be a quick matter of copying files over. Do keep an eye out for any dependencies your mods have, such as meshes creates by other modders that you'll also need to install.

Create-A-Sim mods

New personality traits

Many of the best Sims 4 mods affect the ways Sims interact with each other. The Sims 4 has a long list of traits that change the way a Sim behaves, and because they’re relatively easy for modders to create you can quickly expand that list through custom content.

The Sweet Tooth trait, for example, makes your sims better at baking and adds new moodlets to help them express their love of cake, while the New Hobby Traits helps encourage you to have your sim engage in their favorite activities to stay stress-free. There are tonnes of traits available on ModTheSims in case you're looking for even more unusual choices to try out.

Want to try out several new traits at once? This mod lets you add more than three traits at a time: you just need to type a quick cheat code including the name of the desired trait to add it to your Sim. It’s all explained on the mod page.

Height Sliders

Download here

With the new Create-a-Sim tool in The Sims 4, you can spawn Sims of many different widths, but you can't alter how tall they are. This height slider from GODJUL1 lets you adjust the height of your Sims so that the world looks more naturally varied: just click and drag their feet in Create-a-Sim to stretch or shrink them.

Melanin Pack 2

Download here

The second version of Xmiramira's darker skin tones pack comes with some improvements on original colors and new makeup. No longer will you suffer a greyish pallor for your darker skinned sims. The skin options available in the Melanin Pack add a ton of vibrant options. After the base game update that's added a bunch of default skin tones and a brightness slider, Miramira's modded tones all appear in the "warm" tones section".

Automatic Beards

Download here

Technically this is actually a Live Mode mod, but because it affects your Sim's appearance we'll let it hang out in Create-A-Sim. With this mod, your sims will grow a beard over time. If you don't want to wait for nature, there's even a beard tonic to speed things up. Once it's too long, your Sim can shave and style their facial hair in the mirror. We all know The Sims 4 needs more personal chores, right?

Build and Buy Mode mods

OMSP Shelf

Download here

This is a big must-have for players who like constructing intricate scenes. Placing clutter items naturally in The Sims 4 can be a bit of a headache. Even if you've gotten good at using your ALT key for free placement and the 0 or 9 keys to change an object's height, you can run into snapping nightmares. The OMSP shelf helps you add clutter to just about anything by acting as a placeholder surface while you clutter to your heart's desire.

Better Build/Buy

Download here

For the pro builders in the room, TwistedMexi's Better Build/Buy mod relieves a lot of headaches. This mod expands the number of rows while browsing for objects and makes using filters easier too. The real biggie though is how easy it makes hunting for debug items—the neat items that exist in The Sims 4 but can usually only be revealed for use via cheats. Better Build/Buy lets you see them without cheats and gives them all names, making them much easier to find. Debug items have color swatches too.

Ravasheen's Bunk Beds

Download here

Ravasheen's working bunk beds made a real splash back before The Sims 4 added bunk beds of its own. Even though bunk beds are official now, Ravasheen's bunks are a great modular option for saving space. You can also put Ravasheen's miniature desks beneath a lofted bed and Sims are still able to use them, unlike a lot of base game items paired with standard Sims 4 bunk beds. You'll probably want to grab Ravasheen's bunk bed updates to go with the regular set as well.

Live Mode mods

Slice Of Life

Download here

Another of KawaiiStacie's mods is this immersive mod that adds physical changes to Sims as their emotions change. They can blush when flirting or drunk, get teary-eyed when sad, and have dirty hands when they really need to wash them like, now.

That's just the start of what this mod can do though. There's an interactive conversation system with dialogue options, the ability to get drunk, and personality types based on the 16 Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test. It's a pretty huge overhaul that adds a lot more emotion and quirks for all your Sims.

Life's Drama

Download here

Life's Drama adds a dash of controversy to every neighborhood, with 11 new dramatic scenarios for townie NPCs, some of which you can intervene in. Your Sims might peer out their window to see a couple embroiled in a huge argument, a robber trying to pick a pocket, or a bride running away from her wedding. You can cause some drama yourself via the new "Exposing A Loved One" action, which works on Sims that have partners. Drop the bombshell, and grab some popcorn.

Full installation instructions are here.

The Explore mod

Download here

This mod from KawaiiStacie adds a bunch of rabbit hole actions—activities your Sims can do on their own without you following—that activate buffs or improve your Sims' relationships with those closest to them.

Once your Sims have visited the DMV for a license or bus pass, you can send them exploring just by clicking on them, which brings up a radial wheel of options. You can send them shopping (they'll come back with new clothes), to dance classes, to local attractions, to gambling spots,  to take on some part-time work, and more. Their skills and motives will change based on the activity you choose, and you can tell your Sim to "Explore With" another character if you want to improve relations.

Sims will also randomly explore if you don't intervene, which is neat. The mod works with the base game, but some options rely on specific packs: you can't send Sims for take-out ice cream if you don't own the Cool Kitchen Stuff pack, for example.

Meaningful Stories

Download here

A mod pack containing some of prolific Sims 4 modder roBurky's best work, all aimed at making your Sims feel more human. If you've used Emotional Inertia or True Happiness—both previously on this list individually—then you'll attest to the quality of roBurky's work, and both of those mods are in the package alongside other must-haves.

Make sure your sims look awesome with the best gaming PCs right now.

Emotional Inertia, redesigned just for this collection, stops your Sims' moods flipping on and off like a light switch. In the base game, simply having a good meal in a well-decorated room fills them with joy for a few hours, but then the feeling vanishes. Emotional inertia makes moods less predictable, but more stable: they'll change less and last longer, making it more difficult to game the system. True Happiness, meanwhile, changes your Sims' default state from "happy" to "fine". Making them happy actually requires something special to happen, such as meeting a new partner, which will boost their mood considerably for a short time.

But Meaningful Stories is more than just these two well-liked mods. It also changes how the environment, such as paintings, impacts your Sims' moods. The effects are now more subtle and build up over time. It also stops extreme mood swings, so that instead of going from extreme happiness to sadness your sim will move through the natural, neutral in-between stages. Lastly, it creates more variable moodlets, meaning the same source of mood can give stronger or weaker effects at random.

Modder roBurky has other features in the pipeline, which you can read about on the mod page.

Become a Sorcerer

Download here

Do you miss the magic of previous Sims games? Become a Sorcerer adds a hearty serving of the supernatural, letting your Sims sling magic spells that can either suck the sadness out of a friend or strike down an enemy with a bolt of lightning.

You just need to touch lump of clay, choose one of three rituals—they’ll determine which Needs are replaced with new magical ones—and get to casting. Using magic strengthens your powers and unlocks new spells, but it also depletes your “Magical Connection” (a mana bar, basically), and you’ll have to drain either yourself or another Sim to replenish it.

Depending on your choices, you’ll lean towards good or evil, which changes the type of spells you can cast. Do-gooders can eventually bring ghosts back to life, but if that doesn’t sound like fun, just set fire to a table instead. If you’re bored of your current playthrough, then this is bound to liven it up.

SimDa Dating App

Download here

This mod by LittleMsSam adds extra options for your romantically-inclined Sims. Using their phone, Sims can plan a date with another Sim at a particular neighborhood location. You can also choose to have one-night-stands and get calls for hook-ups from other NPC Sims. The main mod is pretty unrestricted in who it considers to be eligible for dates, including those in different age categories than your Sim and Sims already in relationships. To fine-tune your dating experience, check out the handful of optional addons available with the SimDa app.

Get a job

Players are adding new careers to ModTheSims every week, so if you’re ever looking for inspiration on which direction to steer your Sim in, give it a browse. The imagination behind them is impressive, and most of them give you a fully-fleshed out path to follow.

Whether you want to become a tattoo artist , game developer, stock broker or zookeeper, you can now follow your dreams. We especially enjoy transforming our sim from a lowly PR assistant to the owner of a sports team in the sports agent career, which is a converted version of a career from The Sims 3: University Life.

A word of warning: these custom careers won’t work with most career overhaul mods, such as Turbo Careers—but don’t let that put you off.

Custom food interactions

Download here

If you want more culinary creativity, then Custom Food Interactions is the only place you should start. It doesn’t add any ingredients or recipes to the game—it just adds new possible interactions to cooking equipment along with a framework that lets you craft a fridge-full of custom meals from other modders’ kitchens.

With it installed, you’ll want to head over to the ModTheSims custom food section and pick from the menu. You’ll find recipes for everything from Chinese dumplings to beignets, blueberry cheesecake to biriyani. Grab an optional bib to make sure you don’t accidentally salivate on your keyboard.

Have Some Personality Please!

Download here

This is one of our favourites on the best Sims 4 mods list. It's a huge overhaul of—as you can probably guess—the way Sims’ personalities work. It changes lots in the background (read the description on the mod page for an exhaustive list) but the best thing about it is that it eliminates all idle conversations. Never again will two Sims blab aimlessly to each other about nothing in particular: instead, they’ll be forced to choose an interaction, which is far more interesting.

Those interactions aren’t random, either: the mod will select them based on traits, moods and the existing relationships between the two Sims in question, which will give them a greater sense of autonomy than ever before. Expect more kisses from love interests—and more sucker punches from your enemies.

Turbo Careers

Download here

Another one from Zerbu, the Turbo Careers mod makes all adult (and two teen) careers function like the active careers from the Get to Work expansion. You can download work venues from the Gallery, including ones with a combined function, or make your own—just make sure they have the right objects for Sims to do their job.

The necessary activities for career progression are naturally related to the career—programming, cooking, exercising—and sometimes Sims will receive fieldwork. An athlete might have to go to the gym and show off her muscles, while a Sim who works in business might have to offer career advice to those running retail venues.

You can browseall available careers here and the venue requirements for every job here.

Replacement paintings

Download here

Once your artist Sim has churned out five paintings a day for a week you start to see the same images coming up again and again. This mod from DaisyTighfield replaces those default paintings across all categories with images from around the web, featuring lots of fanart from popular movies and video games.

If you like what you see, you can follow the links provided to find the original images on Deviantart or other sites. You can even create your own masterpieces for your Sims to paint in-game—the instructions are on the mod page.

Risky WooHoo

Download here

Another mod bringing The Sims closer to real life is one from PolarBearSims. It introduces a chance for Sims who are capable of getting pregnant to become so any time they Woohoo instead of just when purposefully using "Try for baby". The mod comes with a variety of different percentage risks and adjusts the chances based on where your Sims are getting it on as well as the traits they possess. It also reworks aspects of pregnancy, introducing complications and possible infertility for some Sims.

It should be noted that you can also manually adjust the chances of getting pregnant in MCCC. Risky WooHoo is compatible with that mod, but MCCC will overwrite the percentage chances.

If you’re looking to change the game even more, have a proper dig into the Create a Sim ‘custom gender settings’ in the base game. They were updated a while back and now provide you with more options, such as the ability to allow same-sex couples to fall pregnant.

And for even more control, check out artulwww’s Pregnancy Mega Mod, which lets you do things like give birth to quintuplets.

Better Babies & Toddlers

Download here

Simmers have been begging for better base game babies for years, but in the meantime modder Caradriel has given us lots more to do with our tiniest Sims. Bear in mind that this mod does require the Parenthood Stuff Pack DLC. Once you've got both, the Better Babies mod gives you all sorts of new moodlets and conversation topics related to raising tiny Sims.

Once your newborns age up, you'll have even more options available to their parents. Through the Better Toddlers menu, your Sims can attempt to teach their kids new words, ask them to say "mommy" or "daddy" and tell other adult Sims about those accomplishments too.

You'll need the Mood Pack mod in order to use Better Babies as well. Although it isn't required, you may also want to consider giving those worn out parents a break by pairing it with the Hire A Babysitter mod by LittleMsSam.

Utility mods

UI Cheats Extension

Download here

This handy mod by Weerbesu makes using Sims 4 cheats a breeze if you don't know the lot by heart. Right-clicking various parts of the normal Sims 4 interface will give you extra options for things like giving a household more money, promoting Sims in their careers, or changing the in-game time. You can find the full list of features by scrolling down a bit on the download page.

No death Murphy Beds

Download here

When the Tiny Living stuff pack came out, fold-down Murphy beds seemed like a treat. That is until everyone realized that they seem to kill your Sims quite often. This mod may seem simple but it can save you from a real headache. No more Murphy bed deaths and cheating your Sims back to life after!

MC Command Center

Download here

MCCC is a mega-mod that lets you tweak virtually aspect of your Sims’ lives, giving you godlike control over them and others in their world. You can blacklist certain clothing items, even on Sims you aren’t controlling. You can set employment rates for Sims of different ages, scan Sims to find out if they’re pregnant, or even terminate the pregnancy.

There are also lots of automatic settings geared towards letting non-controlled Sims live full lives without you, getting married and having babies of their own volition, and you can also use the mod to adjust the in-game time settings so your Sims don’t take half a day to shower and have breakfast. If you only grab one mod, make it this one.

Gender Preference mod

Download here

The Gender Preference mod lets you change the preferences Sims have for romantic partners of particular genders (in The Sims 4 currently that’s just two, female and male). You can adjust the numbers to set your Sims to prefer one gender to the exclusion of the other, to prefer one but also like the other, or to like both equally. Romance away.

Daily Save Mod

Download here

If you've ever lost a week of your Sim's life by forgetting to save, you'll want to think about this mod by Temptest that automatically saves your game every day at your chosen time. It also creates seven save slots so that you can roll back to a previous day if you really want to.

This tutorial deals specifically with fixing Create-a-Sim items. For a way to fix the CC chairs that broke with The Sims 4 in March , read this article.

If you play with Sims 4 mods or CC, then you are probably familiar with the hellish visions of Sims being transformed into punctuation marks that look like they have crawled out from the underworld. (PS: Wouldn’t an underworld pack in The Sims 4 be awesome?).

Moving on. We love using Sims 4 custom content. That’s not hating on EA or The Sims 4 team, there’s just so much gorgeous stuff available. And bunk beds. There are functional Sims 4 CC bunk beds.

The problem with Sims 4 CC is that sometimes it can break. Mods and CC break with updates or sometimes you download them in a broken state. It can be quite traumatising to see the Punctuated Sims from Hell appear.

How to fix Sims 4 broken custom content easily

That question mark slapped in the middle of their virtual foreheads will make you question your life decisions and haunt your dreams.

If you are a bit of a Sims 4 custom content hoarder, then it can feel like a real struggle to figure out which CC is broken.

We have all had that moment where we get so fed up with broken Sims 4 CC that we just go and delete the whole mods folder and start over. Once that recycle bin has been emptied, regret follows instantly.

But there is an easier and far less traumatic way to fix broken CC in The Sims 4. It works best for Create a Sims (CAS) content that’s broken, but you can also use it to get rid of Build/Buy custom content that’s broken or that you no longer use or simply don’t like the look of.

It is also a great way to find any custom content that might be missing from your game. This is useful if you have downloaded some Sims households, lots or objects that do not show up in your game.

Best way to fix broken or bad CC in The Sims 4

To easily fix broken or bad custom content in The Sims 4, you will need to use the Sims 4 Tray Importer from  L&#;Univers Sims. It&#;s a completely free download and it is safe to use. You can download The Sims 4 Tray Importer from the official website over here.

This little application is life changing for Sims 4 players who use a lot of CC. If you have a bad batch of broke custom content, it can help you clean things up in no time.

Once you have installed The Sims 4 Tray Importer (which runs separately to your Sims game), you will be able to quickly delete any broken CC whenever you want. It can even help you clean up your library if it has gotten a bit full.

To get started, you will have to save a household in The Sims 4 with Sims dressed in the broken custom content.

Don’t worry about how they look. They’re not going for a fashion show, they are going into the bin. Do you care what your garbage looks like before you chuck it out? Yeah, didn’t think so.

How to use The Sims 4 Tray Importer to fix broken CC: Step by step

As mentioned already, save your broken Sims to your library to get rid of CAS CC that is broken. If you are trying to delete build/buy CC, then save a room or lot.

We find it is quite useful to have a “delete me” room next to every build, so that we can easily put objects into it we want to delete later. For this example, we will only deal with broken CAS CC in The Sims 4.

You can access all the households, lots and rooms in your library through The Sims 4 Tray Importer. You can refine accordingly using the filters shown here.

Here is a household of ours. For our American readers, this is the national rugby team of South Africa. Well, our version of some of them anyway. For our English readers: Do you remember the Rugby World Cup?

Once you have found the offending family (they will show up like the zombies from CAS, or you can name the family &#;broken&#; or &#;delete this&#; to make it easier).

If you want to just get rid of a household, room or lot without also deleting the CC, you can switch over to the files tab. Highlight the files and right click.

Then select the &#;Show containing folder&#; option. Your Tray folder will open with the files highlighted. You can just hit delete in the folder and the files bell be deleted.

If you want to find the missing CC, right-click and use the &#;Find on Google&#; option. Note: Some users recently reported that there are issues with this option showing up. If you are having problems, refer to the TS4TI support forum. There could be an issue with your firewall blocking access or you might be running an out of date version, or other similar issues. It is best to check with the app&#;s developers for troubleshooting. If the option is there, a browser tab will open and you will find the websites where the CC is hosted. You can then download it and add it to your mods folder. This is quite useful to help find missing meshes.

If you simply want to get rid of the bad or broken CC, click over to the CC tab, select the items and right click to open your Sims 4 mods folder by using the &#;show in folder&#; option (like you did with the household/lot/room files earlier).

If you select more than one item of Sims 4 CC to delete, several windows will open up with the selected items highlighted in your mods folder. You can just delete them one-by-one by going through each window and hitting delete.

Sims 4 Mod Conflict Detector 2021

Now that we know everything about the basics of the Sims 4 mod detector, let us get into the depths of decoding the conflicts in various mods present with the Sims 4 game. Here we are listing down the step by step process for mod conflict detecto.

Identify the Conflict

Script Mods

Conflicts that occur among the Sims script mods cannot be identified as easily as other issues by the user. An exception to this issue is the core mods. The core mods tend to have a higher chance of experiencing conflicts with one another. So, make sure you refrain from using two various core mods in one single go unless the creator of the mod has informed you that doing so is safe. Before you know how to use the mod conflict detector, make sure you understand the script mods in detail.

Pure Script Mods:

With scripting mods, the pure variants have minimal chances to conflict. You cannot use tools to look through the possibility or cases of conflicts, so keep in mind that you read everything about the mods prior to installation.

Object Script Mods:

If you are looking for script mods that flaunt zero conflicts, these mods have close to zero chance of ever conflicting with anything. However, keep in mind the word close to zero as there could be rare instances where things could happen. Say, for example, a user creates moddled toilet which might not work with the NRaas Shooles as it might not recognize it as a toilet. Anything like this happening within the program can lead to game implosion.

Tuning Mods

Identifying the conflict with the Tuning mods can be very easy. Mods (At least 2+) that tend to alter a minimum of 1 game resource possessing exact TGI can lead to game conflicts. The same is completely valid for almost all the override mods. As a result, if the mod is an override, it might conflict with other overrides designed to alter the very same resource.

Custom Content (CC) (Non-Scripted Objects)

When talking about the non-scripted CC such as CAS Parts or the objects, you actually do not have to worry about the conflicts. Some of the CCs, whether this comes via the EA or other creators, will arrived packaged with the resources that you might already have acquired from different CCs. Just one copy for the resource might get loaded with the game. So, this isn’t such a big deal.

Understanding Conflict

Now, that sims 3 mod conflict detector identification process has been decoded for you, the thing you need to concentrate on is decoding the essentials of mod conflict.

Let us first talk about the real meaning of a conflict that happens between two mods.

  • Tuning the mod conflicts doesn’t actually mean that the program might explode. Moreover, tuning the mod conflicts might not lead to lagging of the gameplay.
  • For tuning you must either request the creator or only download one modification, avoiding clashes.
  • To find the broken cc or outdated modules, go for the out of date mod checker to locate them.

Let us elaborate on this. It loads just a single resource with similar TGIs. Therefore, the mods tend to work perfectly within the program. The things that are within the mod folder shall get packed with the higher priority mods. You will see the mod surpassing elements such as JazzData, GamePlayData, FullBuild Packages, and so on.

Tuning the mod conflicts as per your liking can lead to the production of unreliable results. Say, for example, you install the mod designed to allow your sims to learn skills in a faster way & forget about the same. Later on, the user might decide the sims characters to learn the skills in a slower fashion. Now, you download the mod for learning the skills in a slower fashion.

Furthermore, your game houses two different mods that tend to alter the very same XML. You might think that the mod that you installed for slow learning isn’t working. However, things happening in the background are very different.

The two mods conflict with each other and the prior mod takes up the space. In an effort to keep both mods in tune, you might need to get in touch with the creators of the mod and get them to combine the two versions. Else, you will have to keep up with one mod at a single go.

What happens to your mod when it is tuned during conflicts?

  • Tuning the mod conflicts might produce bizarre and unreliable results
  • Apart from this, tuning the mod conflicts can increase the program’s load time while the game starts sorting through the extra files that surface up during the load up session.
  • There might be some unpredictable consequences that arise due to the conflicts that occur during the tuning of mods.

Remember that using the broken mods or outdated form of tuning mods might cause the game to work in an unpredictable manner. Further, it can lead to issues such as game corruption. So, you can opt for the Sims 4 bad cc finder to note if there is a broken or outdated mod in your game.

In order to ensure that your mods installed in the game are compatible with each other before playing the game, you need to use the Sims 4 mod compatibility checker.

Part-Three: Priority

The loading priority for the mod in the game plays an important role in the way the game tackles the conflicts in the game resources. As a result, you can use the Sims 4, Sims 3, or Sims 2 mod conflict detector for finding the CC that has been creating a conflict in the game.

The loading priority of the game looks like the pathway below (Going from Highest Priority all the way to the Lowest Priority):

Mods Folder- Pathway-> Documents/EA/The Sims 4/Mods

After the mods folder comes the overrides folder and the packages folder (given that you have installed and configured the Resource.cfg file in a proper manner). This is followed by the DCC cache Folder and next comes the rest files in the installation directory for the game. So one way to detect the mod conflicts in a faster way is to use the ts4 mod conflict detector.
