Banks Derringer Tuner with ActiveSafety, includes iDash 1.8

for use with 2017-19 Chevy/GMC 2500/3500 6.6L L5P

Description

Stops the competition dead in their tracks. Results in our torque and power gains across the full operating rpm range, starting right off idle and marching to the shift point in each gear. Derringer is dyno calibrated to use multiple data inputs such as throttle position, rpm, vehicle speed, AFR, Knock and coolant temperature, just like your engine's ECU. Its microprocessor based electronics are able to actively and safely optimize calibrations in real time. No competitive product does that.

Derringer has six switched settings. Level 6 produces Best in Class performance knocks you back in your seat. The Level 3 setting is for work use and has great mid-range feel. When running Level 3 with a loaded work truck and/or pulling a trailer, your on ramp merging speeds and passing times are greatly improved.

The electronics are molded into a waterproof connector, which is easily concealed and communicates using B-Bus (Banks Bus) with other devices such as our iDash 1.8 Super Gauge/Control Center. The Derringer connects in line with the Throttle Inlet Pressure (TIP) and Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensors. But, unlike others it also connects to the vehicle's OBDII diagnostic bus connector. A CAN (controller area network) transceiver chip communicates with OBD or B-Bus allowing our microprocessors to talk with the vehicle. And, Derringer's special coolant temp watchdog prevents power addition when the engine is too cold or overheated. The Derringer also auto-adjusts power if knock occurs due to bad fuel. Maximum safe power is all automatic with a Derringer, you just choose your setting.

The Banks difference when it comes to L5P POWER!

The Derringer tuner — When it comes down to it, you want a real L5P tuner. You want something that makes big power and doesn’t kill your truck. After all, you just spent a lot of money on that beast. The Banks Derringer L5P tuner is the only option you should be plugging into your truck. Look, the other guys claim big numbers and we call bulls—t! We tested every other tuner on the same dyno, same day, same weather conditions, with the same technician… Same damn test, period! There’s only so much you can do by just intercepting the fuel rail pressure sensor. That’s where all the others fall short. The Derringer is the only tuner that actually utilizes your truck’s ECU to make intelligent calculations!

After months of testing, the results are in and we can’t wait to share them.

Ratings and Reviews

Must Have for Cummins

I bought the Pedal Monster from Banks website and bought installed it in 10 mins and downloaded the app and my 2020 Ram 2500 feels like my HEMI I just traded in. The bottom end power is insane! I can’t believe the difference just from a plug and play device. I love my Cummins and was super happy with it but now I’m in love with it by just adding the pedal monster and using this app. If you own a diesel this is a must have! Thanks Banks!

Works great and it’s safe

Night and day difference in throttle response and knowing it has built in safety features gives peace of mind. No other throttle controller has the safety features Banks has. Can’t drive without it now as the factory throttle lag is annoying.

Yeah Baby!

Plugs right in. 4 settings and wake your truck right up. Has built in safety features and turns off when in reverse. Another Awesome product from banks.

OBD-II Connected

PedalMonster is the ONLY throttle sensitivity controller connected via the vehicle’s OBD-II port (onboard diagnostics) reading vehicle data, allowing for unmatched control and safety. OBD-II data makes the following possible:

Safety

PedalMonster is the ONLY throttle sensitivity device with ActiveSafety®. In the event of an internal or external circuit failure the system’s seamlessly returns the pedal to stock. When all other devices fail, they leave the vehicle inoperable leading to dangerous situations. Imagine losing power while passing on a two-lane road while heading into oncoming traffic.

All modern throttle pedals communicate with the vehicle’s ECM via two distinct signals (APP1 and APP2). This is done for safety. PedalMonster’s Watchdog Circuitry constantly checks for signal linearity between these two signals and monitors input and output values. If it detects any irregularities, PedalMonster returns to stock.

PedalMonster’s internal circuitry is powered by the reliable +12 volt OBD-II connector. Competitive devices draw current directly from the low-overhead +5 volt throttle pedal circuit, often rendering the vehicle inoperable leading to dangerous situations.

Reverse Safety

PedalMonster returns the vehicle to stock throttle response when in reverse gear (availability varies by vehicle).

Adjustable Low-Speed Trim

This feature allows the driver to adjust the rate at which PedalMonster adds sensitivity at speeds under 10 mph. This helps to avoid spinning the tires in low speed turns or on slippery surfaces.

How PedalMonster Differs From Competitors

Verify this fits your vehicle by checking for this connector on your accelerator pedal.

Ordered my Banks Pedal Monster today. What to expect?

Dr__Bob said:

I guess I'm doing something wrong. I don't have any sign of a dead pedal in my 3500 SO. Sure, it's not a racing car. But I don't have any issues "sitting in an intersection" like some have said. When I push down on the pedal, the truck moves. No hesitation. No burnt rubber, either, but I have seldom done that in any vehicle (and only long ago when my age had a "1" in front of it. That said, I haven't done any towing with it (other than moving my 35' rig from on-site storage to a camp site, at no more than 10 mph, so I can't say what it will be like hauling my rig through an intersection. But for every day driving around, I have no complaints about pedal response. Is everyone else coming from Nascar or is this only an HO issue that I dodged (!) by getting an SO?

My take on all this is the use of the term "dead pedal."

In most circles, dead pedal means a completely unresponsive pedal, usually seen due to left foot braking (expected with DBW) or with start/stop/start pedal use jumping into the middle of an intersection. In some DBW implementations (slow processor/crap code), the PCM/ECM has trouble responding and you get "dead pedal."

I don't discount this may happen to some under those or similar circumstances, but too many use the term when it's simply a slower than expected pedal response due to the DBW system. Something that should more accurately be described as "slow pedal" IMHO. The pedal monster/commander/iDrive, etc throttle boosters aren't curing dead pedal, they're simply changing the response curve of the DBW signal coming from the pedal, and in some fashion, making things happen quicker. If you had true "Dead Pedal" a booster would not do a thing for it.

FWIW, My 03 Audi has what we call "brake throttle death lag" that occurs with the gas/brake/gas scenario. I've almost gotten creamed a few times but learned to drive around it.

I even felt a little uncomfortable, the thought flashed in my head that I shouldn't have started all this at all. I heard how hard he was breathing, and then (Oh, God!) I felt his hand on my pussy. His hot wet fingers stroked my girl.
