I have a question for any of you savage gurus. I have a savage action, and am thinking about a trigger change. I just cannot decide what trigger to get. Looking for around a 2 pound crisp trigger. Timney? SAV-1 or SAV-2? Looking for some thoughts. I have the stock trigger down to about 3 1/4 pounds right now, but there is some creep that just won't go away. I have heard of honing the sear and all that, but I am way inexperienced doing that, and it makes me nervous.

If it's one of the old 3 screw triggers, they are awesome! You can get them safely down to about lbs with no take up or overtravel.

I use both the RB and Timney triggers in four reworked Savages. This is personal preference. Using either is better than the stock trigger, but I prefer the feel of the Timney. It is crisper. One of my RBs has some creep, but not enough to consider replacement. Three are hunting rifles. The fourth is a rebuilt Stevens (Savage ) in 6x45mm which is a heavy varmint rifle.
The Timneys are about $20 more per unit.
It's a toss up in my view. Both triggers fit into a preexisting mechanism, so it is important that the surfaces are properly cleaned. Machining being what it is, I believe that any difference in feel is the direct result of how well the sear engages when the new trigger is installed.
As well, I had to shim one of the RBs. This was not because RB triggers weren't good. It was the rifle. The area where the trigger sits was wider and there was some play. This was eliminated with trigger shims.

I thought I would add this. I wrote this in In the article, I talked about a that I left stock. That was the rifle that got an RB trigger about a year later. The trigger felt worse than the others. It also had to be shimmed.

Last week I put a pre accutrigger Timney trigger on a Sav E I got used in
My rifle is so old that the trigger pin is shaped like a dog bone. In the instructions, it says to contact Timney if you have one of those. I did and a new pin that works with C clips arrived in 2 days.
