What is the Door Handle or Door Latch all about?
The car has at least two door handles per door: one on the inside and another on the outside. Due to frequent use, they will eventually break down and could need repair. Sometimes the handle itself is fine, but there is a problem with the door latch assembly that prevents the door from shutting and locking properly.
Keep in mind:
- Sometimes the visible part of the door handle needs to be replaced, and sometimes the mechanism hidden inside the door needs to be replaced.
- If the exterior door handle doesn’t work, there’s a good chance that the interior door handle is also faulty.
- If physical damage (such as an accident) has caused the door handle to break, there may also be damage to the door lock switch or door lock actuator.
How it's done:
- Remove the door panel to gain access.
- Remove and replace the broken door handle.
- Inspect door latch and replace if not working.
- Check door for proper operation.
- Reinstall door panel.
Our recommendation:
As soon as you notice that your door is having difficulty opening, you should schedule an inspection. If your exterior door handle stops working entirely, stop trying to use it: trying to force the door can cause further damage. If you notice that your exterior door handle is feeling fragile, you should also schedule an inspection.
What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Door Handle or Door Latch?
- Door will not open.
- Door will not shut.
How important is this service?
An exterior door handle exists so that you can open your vehicle from the outside. When the exterior door handle malfunctions, you’ll have to enter your vehicle from a different door, or keep your window rolled down so you can use the interior door handle (if it works). An exterior door handle that doesn’t work is a large nuisance to any driver.

Nissan Titan
Introduced in 2004, the Nissan Titan was the first Japanese pickup to include measurements and performance capabilities similar to American full-size pickups. In the first few years of production, the Titan outclassed domestic pickups. It proved to be capable both on and off the road. Unfortunately, later first generation models lacked features offered by domestic made pickups such as additional wheelbase and bed lengths, fewer powertrain options and a heavy duty model. The Titan was also outclassed by newer competitors in terms of comfort and overall design. Still, first generation models of the Nissan Titan continues to be a popular choice for buyers looking to purchase a used late-model pickup.
For the 2008 model year Nissan beefed up the Titan's appearance and offered features that were not available on previous models. Notable changes included the addition of a long-wheelbase model and an upgrade to the exterior and interior styling. However, in comparison to domestic competitors, the Nissan Titan continued to lack standard safety features such as stability control, side airbags and side curtain airbags. It wasn't until the 2010 model year that these features became standard.
With the progression of each model the Nissan Titan's cargo and interior room increased. Currently, the Titan offers extended-cab (King Cab) and crew-cab styles, with two bed lengths each. The King Cab is offered with either a 6.5- or 8-foot bed, while those on the crew cab are each 1 foot shorter. The King Cab's rear-hinged doors open extra wide to aid cargo loading or a passenger's entry to the rear seats. The crew cab has four traditional doors and a larger rear seating area with more available rear legroom than the extended cab. Buyers may also choose between standard- and long-wheelbase versions, with the latter adding 20 inches in length.
For power, Nissan offers only one combination: a 5.6-liter V8 connected to a five-speed automatic transmission. The V8 is rated at 317 horsepower and 385 pound-feet of torque. The transmission features a tow/haul mode for when the truck is used for pulling or carrying heavy loads. For every body style and trim combination, two- or four-wheel drive is available. Each Nissan Titan body style is available in four trim levels - the entry-level S, the midgrade SV, off-road-focused PRO-4X and the luxury-oriented SL. Captain's chairs with a center console are standard on all trims with the exception of the entry-level S, which only features a front bench seat. Depending on the trim, some Titans include an upgraded audio system, a rear seat DVD entertainment system, a navigation system and utility enhancing cargo bed features. Models with the PRO-4X trim features offer performance parts such as Rancho shocks, skid plates and 18 inch off road wheels and tires for off road driving enthusiasts.
For the upcoming 2017 model year, Nissan confirmed at the Chicago Auto Show, their plans to introduce a new half-ton Titan. The truck will be offered in three cab lengths - 5.5, 6.6 and 8 foot bed lengths. The 5 grade trim levels are the S, SV, Pro-4x, SL and Platinum Reserve. It will come with a 390 hp/5.6 liter V8 engine. The Titan with the smaller V6 engine will be available in 2017.
