Introduction: Wire Skeleton for Dolls

Me and my youngest daughter had the idea of creating a film with the dolls she won, using the technique of stop motion. To this end, we developed a skeleton very easy to be created. This tutorial will focus only on the creation of the metal skeleton. Hope you enjoy.

The first step is to create the story and choose the characters.

Step 1: Materials

- A doll;

  - Needle and thread the color of the doll;

  - Scissors;

  - Rigid copper wire (do not know what gauge of wire goes through feeling);

  - Soldering tin, solder

Step 2: Creating the Skeleton

On top of the figure, measure the wire pieces to be cut, taking care to place them already in the shape of the doll body. Making the legs, arms and trunk.

  Then just solder the parts.

Note: I peeled the wire because I wanted to experiment with water electrolysis. I put salt water in a plastic bottle and sank two wires with bare ends. There, I put in a battery and touched the body of the doll. The visual effect was cool. Bubbles come out of the skeleton. It reminded me of an episode of the X-Men when Wolverine was for the future and saw his skeleton kept in an aquarium.

  It is not necessary to strip the wire completely. Simply peel the ends where it will be a soldier. Be careful because the soldering iron heats up very destragar the doll and can get in contact with him.

Step 3: Putting the Skeleton on the Doll

It was enough to pull some points back seam of the doll and a little filler. Then just put the skeleton back to put the stuffing and sew the part descosturada.

  The doll was left with a plethora of movements

Step 4: Making the Movie

We had a fight scene where the coyote (my favorite) wins. Hence forward, the imagination is the limit.

I hope you enjoyed. Comments are always welcome.

DOLL FIGURES HAVING AN INTERNAL WIRE SKELETON Aug. 6, 1968 5 Sheets-Sheet 3 Filed June 22, 1966 INVENTOR. Bern K 544/1 BY E a roeA/e'i United States Patent 3,395,484 DOLL FIGURES HAVING AN INTERNAL WIRE SKELETON Betty Y. Smith, Box 36, Lilliwaup, Wash. 98555 Filed June 22, 1966, Ser. No. 559,498 7 Claims. (Cl. 46-151) This invention relates to improvements in doll figures and construction and particularly concerns dolls having an internal wire skeleton or armature.

Hitherto, existing types of dolls have definite disadvantages in that slippage occurs between the internal wire and the finishing materials making up the outer part or visible material of the doll. Frequently, the wire skeleton of conventional dolls becomes dislocated from its proper position and it or its parts projects through the outer covering. Also, such conventional dolls often have internal wire construction which severs easily.

It is, therefore, an object of this invention to provide a strong but simple armature or skeleton construction for a doll figure by covering each wire in a wire skeleton of a doll separately with a self-adhesive material before being assembled into parts of a skeleton as well as the completed skeleton itself.

Another object of this invention is to provide dolls having an internal wire skeleton which will not protrude through the outer covering even after prolonged use.

A further object of this invention is to provide dolls which have no slippage between the internal armature or skeleton and covering materials.

These and other object will be more fully understood by reference to the following description and claims, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:

FIGURE 1 is a front elevational view of the flexible internal skeleton or armature of one of my doll figures.

FIGURE 2 is a rear elevational view of FIGURE 1.

FIGURE 3 is an enlarged fragmentary view showing the manner of covering a section of the wire making up the skeleton or armature of one of my doll figures.

FIGURE 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view showing the manner of reinforcing a section of the skeleton or armature of one of my doll figures.

FIGURE 5 is a perspective view of a skeleton of one of my doll figures covered with padding.

FIGURE 6 is a front elevational view of one of my completed doll figures which is fully balanced by itself and has flexible arms, hands, fingers, thumbs, legs, and ankles, but with inflexible feet.

FIGURE 7 is a detail view of one type of flexible hand having an internal skeleton or armature for each extremity of the hand.

FIGURE 8 is a detail view of an inflexible hand construction and means for attaching it to an arm.

FIGURE 9 is a detail view of a flexible foot with an internal skeleton or armature for each extremity of the foot.

FIGURE 10 is a detail view of an inflexible foot and means for attaching it.

FIGURE 11 is a detail view of an inflexible shoe form including the foot.

FIGURE 12 is another embodiment of my invention showing a flexible skeleton construction in conjunction with a base and stand, the dotted lines showing various positions for placing the flexible torso portion of the skeleton.

FIGURE 13 is another embodiment of my invention showing a flexible skeleton construction in conjunction with a base and illustrating a seated position of a flexible skeleton.

With reference to the drawings, the skeleton or wire armature 10 of FIGURE 1 is constructed by covering 3,395,484 Patented Aug. 6, 1968 each wire used in the skeleton separately with a self-adhesive material 12 such as a soft, self-sealing, self-adhesive tape before forming any part of the armature 10. Such material should have a slightly viscous adhesive, but it should not be so sticky as to be difficult to handle.

When this preferred covering material 12 is used, the resulting doll has superior qualities of strength, flexibility, and balance because the wires forming the armature acquire increased tensile strength and durability from the covering material 12.

The skeleton 10 of my doll figures is preferably constructed from two types of wires having different diameters and weights, 18 gauge steel wire 14, and 30 gauge steel wire 16.

The 18 gauge wire, being of a larger diameter and heavier weight is suitable to form the legs, arms, and torso of the skeleton 10. These parts are preferably each formed by two lengths of 18 gauge wire 14 covered with the self adhesive tape 12 and then twisted together to form a double twisted length. In some instances, a single length of 18 gauge wire may be used for arms. In other cases, three or four lengths of 18 gauge wire may be twisted together.

For added strength, 30 gauge steel wire 16 covered with self adhesive tape 12 may be laced around the 18 gauge wire as shown in FIGURE 4. Also, the 30 gauge steel wire 16 covered with the self adhesive tape 12 is used to form flexible hands, fingers and. toes, as shown in FIGURES 7 and 9. 18 gauge wire in conjunction with 30 gauge wire may be used to form feet, as illustrated in FIGURE 9.

By the use of my novel skeleton construction, my dolls need no joints, ball and socket or otherwise, or springs or elastic or other means of joining parts of a skeleton for a doll figure. My novel skeleton construction permits easy and repeated bending of elbow and knee portions, as well as other sections of the skeleton, without resulting in breaks.

My novel skeleton construction can be used for doll figures ranging in height from a few inches to as large as life size or larger human figures. Of course, the larger figures will require steel Wire heavier than 18 gauge, in all probability.

It is to be understood that I do not limit my novel skeleton construction to be made from steel wire only. Any material having the requisite tensile strength and flexibility may be used, such as various plastics, to form the skeleton or armature of my doll figures.

Further, any suitable self adhesive material may be used to cover the individual wires making up the skeleton. For example, besides wrapping, the wires may be covered by dipping them in a suitable solution of a plastic material.

My novel skeleton construction, covered by the self adhesive material, prevents any accidental slippage between various parts making up the skeleton, as well as the lengths of wire themselves, even though made from multiple twisting of several lengths of wire together. Further, no slippage or dislocation occurs even after the skeleton is padded or otherwise finished with various materials to form the completed doll figures, as between the wire skeleton and the padding or finishing material.

Instead of single or double twisted 18 gauge wire, multiple-twisted links of wire may be used for arms of a figure which will hold a large or heavy object.

The flexible hand portion 17 of the skeleton as shown in FIGURE 7 may be covered by semi-soft flexible padding 18 made of plastic, latex rubber, or similar material as illustrated in FIGURE 5. The padding may be adapted in various conventional ways to cover the skeleton hand of FIGURE 7, such as by being cast into shape in one or more pieces and then sealed over the skeleton hand, or

3 cast in the round and then slit to fit the skeleton hand and then folded and sealed in place around the hand and fingers.

Another type of covering for the flexible hand and fingers may be formed by wrapping strips of crepe paper or other similar expandable material over the parts of the skeleton hand. As a final flexible finishing cover, the thin skin-line material is added by applying it to the wrapped hand by painting, dipping or similar means. Such a thin skin finish may be produced by various plastics, latex rubber, or similar materials. In this case also, each of the extremities of the hand is completely flexible.

Still another type of flexible hand may be produced by sewing or otherwise securing cloth, leather, or similar material over the flexible skeleton hand, thereby producing the effect of a gloved hand with fingers and thumb separated.

Where desired, the flexible hand may be weighted in the palm or in the separate fingers without losing flexibility anywhere.

All of these types of flexible hands may be placed in almost unlimited positions similar to those in real life, such as pointing a finger, clenching a fist, or grasping objects of various shapes, sizes and weights.

If flexibility is desired only at the Wrist, the inflexible hand 20 illustrated in FIGURE 8 is made by casting, carving, or modeling of inflexible material such as metal, stone, wax, and similar inflexible materials. Such an inflexible hand, of course, must be made in a predetermined position which will permit only movement as a whole from the flexible wrist when attached to a flexible skeleton arm 22 as shown in FIGURE 12.

The wrist portion 24 of the hand 20 is laced with 30 gauge wire 26 to the flexible skeleton arm 28 as indicated in FIGURE 8.

My novel skeleton construction permits completely flexible feet similar to the flexible hands and fingers.

An illustration of a flexible foot 30 with flexible toes 32 is shown in FIGURE 9 of the drawings. The same types of flexible finishing coverings may be used for a flexible foot as for the flexible hands, thereby permitting five flexible and separate toes which can be placed in various positions.

In addition, such flexible feet may be weighted to balance the complete figure by stringing or weaving one or more metal weights, made of lead or other suitable material, into the foot skeleton. However, where the completed figure will be seated or suspended, such weights are unnecessary.

Where flexibility is desired only at the ankle, similar to the wrist of the inflexible hand, the inflexible foot 34 may be made in the same way as the hand, using the same material, and is attached by 30 gauge wire 36 to the flexible skeleton leg 38 as shown in FIGURE 10. The inflexible foot 34, just like the inflexible hand, must be made in a predetermined position since movement is permitted only at the flexible ankle 40.

In cases where the foot of the completed doll will be in shoe form 42 as illustrated in FIGURE 11, the completely flexible foot with flexible toes is unnecessary. Only the ankle section 44 need be flexible for the doll figure to have balance and flexibility to and including the ankle, as illustrated in FIGURE 11, with an inflexible foot 34 as illustrated in FIGURE 10. Of course, if desired, the entire shoe form 42 may be made flexible or inflexible for a particular doll figure, using construction similar to the foot in FIGURE 9.

Both the weighted flexible foot 30 and the inflexible foot 34- and shoe form 42 have suflicient weight and support to hold the flexible doll figure when completed, in balance and to permit rebalancing of the flexible figure in different positions.

FIGURES and 6 illustrate the head construction used for my doll figures. The heads 46 may be constructed conventionally by casting inflexible materials such as wax,

stone, papier-mache, and similar materials, into head 46- and neck 48 units. Also, heads may be carved out of solid materials or modeled from Wet materials such as clay and then dried or fired. The heads 46 may be built up from a light weight porous center using conventional applique methods.

In addition, flexible materials may be used to form heads and neck units.

The same types of skin covering materials previously mentioned for other parts of the body may be used for finishing the heads.

Wigs 50 or wig-hat 52 units are used to complete the head. Colored glass beads 54 or colored glass-beaded pins 56 are used for the eyes. Bits of wig material make eyebrows 58, or the eyebrows 59 may be painted on.

The heads 46 and neck 48 are provided With a cavity 6% which receives the neck portion 62 of the covered wire skeleton. The cavity may be formed by piercing or drilling the material, or by casting the material with a pocket. The head 46 is secured to the skeleton by lacings of 30 gauge steel wire 64 as shown in FIGURE 5, or by glue or other adhesive means, or by both Wire and adhesive means.

The cavity 60 may extend entirely through the head and be fastened at the top of the head 46 under a Wig 50 or may alternatively penetrate the head 46 only partially before being secured to the skeleton as previously indicated.

in actual production of the doll figures, the wire skeleton 10 is first formed from the various wires previously mentioned in illustrating preferred embodiments of my invention. Next, the covering material, preferably having the qualities of tape 12 previously mentioned, is used to cover the wire skelton 10.

Thereafter, the various types of skin covering may be used to make the finished doll. Where it is desired to use solid materials which are cast in imitation of human flesh and which are thick enough to form a doll body without padding underneath, various rubbers, rubber-like materials, synthetic rubbers, or pliable plastic materials, and the like, may be used. Such materials may be cast in dies or molds in one or more pieces and may be patterned to fit closely over the covered wire doll skeletons to form finished doll bodies. Various types of clothing may then be applied and sewn over and around the doll body as desired. Any suitable type of material may be used for such clothing.

Where it is desired to use a relatively thin outside skin coating for the doll figures, padding is needed underneath the outside coating to cover the doll skeleton and to fill out the body of the finished doll figure. Various materials may be used as padding in combination or singly, including crepe paper, cellulose wadding, cotton wadding, tubular knitted cotton, plastic materials in shaped pieces such as spheres, tubes, and the like, as Well as other suitable materials. The padding may be wrapped, pinned, sewn, skewered on, or otherwise attached to or over the covered wire doll skeleton.

After the padding has been added to the covered wire doll skeleton, the thin outside skin covering is then applied over the padding. Various suitable materials may be used, including synthetic rubbers, latexes, or other materials capable of being sprayed on, painted over, or placed on by dipping, the padded doll skeleton to form a flexible, glovelike, thin outside skin covering. Thereafter, various types of clothing may be applied and sewn over and around the doll figures as desired.

Although I have described my invention in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings illustrating preferred forms of my invention, it is understood that numerous changes in the details of construction and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.

For example, I have previously referred to preferred embodiments of my invention employing double twisted lengths of wires of a particular size or diameter. It is possible to construct my invention in embodiments using single untwisted wires throughout, said wires having various suitable diameters, sizes, and chemical compositions. Thus, my invention is not limited to double twisted lengths of wire or to twisted wire lengths anywhere in the doll construction. Therefore, single lengths of single twisted wire having suitable strength may be used throughout such a construction, as well as single lengths of single wire, and also a single length of double twisted wire as well. Again, each of these embodiments may have various suitable diameters, sizes, and be made up of various types of chemical compositions.

Doll for wire skeleton

for sale online Skeleton Handmade Doll With Box 17" Wire Body Frida Kahlo Inspired Santa Muerte online wholesale store

lord god, we all to thee give praise,
thanksgivings meet to thee we raise,
that angel hosts thou didst create
around thy glorious throne to wait.

they shine with light and heav’nly grace
and constantly behold thy face;
they heed thy voice, they know it well,
in godly wisdom they excel.

they never rest nor sleep as we;
their whole delight is but to be
with thee, lord jesus, and to keep
thy little flock, thy lambs and sheep.

the ancient dragon is their foe;
his envy and his wrath they know.
it always is his aim and pride
thy christian people to divide.

as he of old deceived the world
and into sin and death was hurled,
so now he subtly lies in wait
to ruin school and church and state .

a roaring lion round he goes,
no halt nor rest he ever knows;
he seeks the christians to devour
and slay them by his dreadful power.

but watchful is the angel band
that follows christ on every hand
to guard his people where they go
and break the counsel of the foe.

for this, now and in days to be,
our praise shall rise, o lord, to thee,
whom all the angel hosts adore
with grateful songs forevermore.

How to insert wire into crochet doll

DIY wire dolls. DIY skeleton doll: photo, step-by-step instructions and interesting ideas. How to attach the arms, legs, and head of a skeleton doll

In the photo you can also see a floral ribbon, threads, toilet paper... These materials will be useful to us a little later.
Before starting work on the frame of the doll, I think over the image, sculpt the head and handles. Having a ready-made doll head available, I can determine the height of the doll. In this case, the height of the head is 5 cm, the estimated height of the doll is about 40 cm. You can start working with the frame and sculpt the head later. It's easier for me to determine the size of the doll's body depending on the size of the head, and not vice versa.
To create a skeleton, you need to know some of the proportions of the human body.
An adult's head-to-height ratio ranges from approximately 1: 7 to 1: 8,
half of the growth gives the pubic articulation point of the pelvis,
shoulder width equal to two head heights (or three widths),
arm length - 3 head heights,
elbow at waist level,
the size of the thigh is approximately equal to the size of the lower leg and is about 2 times the height of the head.
The width of the pelvis in a woman is approximately equal to the width of the shoulders.
I will be guided by these ratios when making the doll's frame.
First of all, I will prepare several pieces of wire from 50 cm to a meter long.
1. We take 2 pieces of wire of approximately the same length (80-100 cm), bend them in half, we get 2 pieces of wire with a fold at the top and 4 tails at the bottom. We form the neck, for this we retreat 3-5 cm from the bend of the wire (we will determine the height taking into account the fact that part of the wire will enter the doll's head) and bend the tails perpendicular to the neck, 2 on each side. We got an inverted T with a lengthy top (we have a bottom) crossbar. We shape the shoulders. To do this, we bend the tails of the wire down on both sides, stepping back from the "neck" on both sides at a distance slightly greater than the width of the head. Create the waist. We twist all the tails together at the waist level (about 2 head heights from above from the doll's chin to the waist).

Next is the pelvis. We spread the wire tails to the sides to the width of the shoulders, lower them down. The result can be seen in the next photo on the left.

There are many words, but almost all of these actions are done within one minute. It will be easier further.
2. Bend a new piece of wire (length 50-60 cm) in half, and bend it again, see the photo above. The fold is rounded, along the width of the pelvis. The rounded fold will create the pubic articulation of the pelvis, the tails are the future legs of the doll. We combine the started doll frame with the new element. See the photo below (left).
The height of the resulting structure without taking into account the legs (from the chin of the doll to the pubic joint - 3 doll heads. I have - 15 cm. We connect both parts with electrical tape. Firmly, reliably so that the height of the pelvis does not change. Can be fixed with a wire, medical plaster, thermo gun, etc. The main thing is that the parts do not move relative to one another. Look at the photo on the left.

3. Making pens. We take a new piece of wire, bend it in half, form the shoulders. To do this, we apply our new piece of wire to the frame in the shoulder area and bend the wire down on both sides. It turned out "pens". Pictured above on the right.
The length is not yet fundamental, you can always bite off the excess with pliers. We fasten the part to the frame with electrical tape. Result in the photo:

4. Next, I shape the breasts. This is not an obligatory step, but its presence makes it easier for the future winding of the frame. We take another piece of wire (50-60 cm), form a rounded fold (letter P, upper bar with rounded ends). The width of the "P" is approximately 1.5 times the width of the doll's head. We bend the upper bar of the “letter P” by 1.5-3 cm. We get the figure shown in the photo (left).

Again, easier to do than describe. In the photo, the wire is uneven, the upper element is symmetrical on both sides. I fasten the "chest" in the chest area. I fix it with electrical tape in the sternum and in the waist area. We look at the photo.

The ponytails from this piece of wire will help in creating the doll's butt. This is also an optional step, it helps me in winding. We simply bend the wire in the shape of the buttocks, spread them from the waist down to the legs and fix both ponytails on the legs, one on the left, the second on the right. In the photo, the ends of the wire have not yet been fixed.

Here's what we have at this stage:

We now have five wires in our legs, their number can be changed depending on the wire you are using, on the height and weight of the doll, on the way it is attached to the stand. I do not twist the wires together, but wrap them in a spiral either with an additional wire of a smaller section, or with tails of wire left over from the formation of the buttocks.
Let's try on the doll's head, first bend the arms at the elbows, and see the result.

Let's check the symmetry, you can form the curvature of the spine.
Now the arms and legs are much longer than necessary. It is more convenient for me to cut off the excess later.
And now I will bend the ends of the wire and wrap them with electrical tape so that they do not interfere with further work and do not get scratched.

Next, work begins on the formation of the doll's body. I will show my method in a separate master class.
1
We continue to work on the formation of the doll's body.
To do this, we need an already made doll frame, any bobbin threads, floristic tape or adhesive plaster, scissors and, most importantly, ta-da-da-dame - half a roll of toilet paper.

Do you love toilet paper the way I love it? This is one of the most rewarding and malleable materials. Also inexpensive and readily available). The most ordinary, gray paper is needed.
Why do I like to use paper for winding, and not padding polyester strips, for example? I sometimes work with padding polyester, padding polyester, and cord. When using toilet paper (hereinafter TB), it is easier for me to gradually form the required volumes, the process is slow, because the layers of paper are thin, all mistakes can be easily corrected at once. Depending on the width of the paper strip, the work area involved also changes. The use of TB gives a fairly dense body, but pliable for changing posture. And it is possible to pierce the carcass with a needle if desired (for example, when decorating clothes or attaching accessories).
If you need a completely rigid structure, then the TB body can be primed with PVA. Sometimes, after wrapping the TB with a final layer, I use an ordinary medical bandage, which is primed with diluted PVA. TB can be combined with padding polyester winding. In general, creativity is always welcome))).
First, I prepare the material: I tear off strips of toilet paper about a meter long. I put some of the strips aside, fold some of them in half several times and tear them in the middle (I tear them, not cut them, I need torn edges so that the winding elements smoothly merge into each other and there are no sharp breaks in the form). It is advisable to make the outer edges of the paper torn, at least a couple of mm to break off arbitrarily. I forgot to do it and was wrong). Part of the strips I ditch into 3 parts, part - into 4. Now that the materials are ready, you can start working.

  • We take the frame, 2 prepared solid pieces of TB, crush each piece into a lump, fill the sternum of the future doll with one lump, and the pelvic region with the second. We do this so that there are no voids inside the body and it does not "walk". We fill it quite tightly, if necessary, fix it with threads. The result is in the photo.
  • I start winding from the waist of the doll. I shake solid sections of TB in one direction. Pretty tight. If necessary, I fix it with threads when I move from one piece of TB to another. We look at the photo.
  • Then I wrap my shoulders crosswise several times, again I walk over the chest area. Now I use scraps of paper already torn in half. Photo:
  • We wrap the handles. Depending on the size of the doll, you will need TB pieces either torn into 3 or 4 pieces. I start to wind from above, grabbing the shoulder and chest (I make one or two turns along the torso, then I move to the handle). I wind the paper in a spiral, tightly, tightening the paper as it wraps. The main thing is not to overdo it so as not to tear the paper))). I wind it up to the place where, according to my plan, the molded part of the hand will begin, I continue winding in the opposite direction. It is important that the layers of paper fit snugly together. The turns are oblique, slightly overlapping. Do not forget that the hand has a certain relief, the winding should repeat it. We don't want to get two sticks on the sides of the torso. In places where muscle tissue is located, the number of layers of winding can be increased (walk the paper back and forth several times in one place). We always fix with threads, if necessary. Let's not forget about the elbows. If the doll is static, and its handle should be bent, you can wrap a ball of TB in the elbow area and fix it with threads. Intermediate results are shown in the photo.
  • I continue to work with the chest. I wrap the TB lumps in the chest area with ribbons of paper, fix them with threads. I shape the back in the same way, only instead of lumps of paper I use a piece of TB folded in several layers. Pay attention to the area of the shoulder blades so that the back does not become too sunken or hunchback. Correct the curvature of the spine, if necessary.
  • Then I work on the lower body. Legs are formed similarly to handles. I have a molded part of my leg above the knee, so I only make out the hips. If you need to form a leg below the knee, proceed in the same way as working on the handles. Do not forget about the muscles, knees. The leg should also not look like a stick. We fix the ponytails of paper with threads, if required. Wrapping the legs, I, as in the case of the hands, start with one or two turns along the pelvic region. This helps to better fix the paper. This way we will avoid scrolling the paper around its axis in the already wound state. And do not forget that the paper is always wound in one direction on one limb. On the other limb - better in the opposite direction, but also all the segments in the same direction! Otherwise, each subsequent piece of paper will tend to unwind the previous one and the winding will not turn out to be dense and rigid.
  • In conclusion, we work with the pelvis. We form the buttocks, tummy, groin area. Where possible, we use lumps of paper wrapped in strips and secured with threads. Where it does not work, we just continue wrapping with TB tapes half a roll or a third wide. When wrapping, grab the upper thighs, pass the paper between the doll's legs, wrap the paper around the waist.
  • We look closely at what happens and adjust those areas that do not suit us. We fix the ponytails of paper with threads. We look at the photo. Here the tips of the TB stick out, they do not bother me, but they can be glued. The carcass will look more aesthetically pleasing.
  • Please note that the winding of the doll's limbs becomes thinner downwards. I do this on purpose. When trying on the handles-legs, I will correct the length-width of their winding. It's easier for me to increase the missing volumes than to reduce the existing ones))).
  • When the wrapping of the doll's body with paper is completed, I carry out the final wrapping either with floral tape, or with a bandage, followed by a primer with diluted PVA or slip, or a medical plaster. Can be primed directly on the TB carcass. Shown here wrapping with floral tape. I took the color bright for contrast. It is, of course, better to work with the color of the ribbon that is present in the suit. Or use flesh tones, you can use white. It is easier to wind in the direction of expansion. That is, from the waist to the pelvis, from the waist to the chest, from the knee to the groin, etc. We shake tight, but not overtightening. Overlap, slightly oblique. Hands - we go down, we return. Shoulders - first crosswise, then we pass around the torso with a ribbon several times. Correct the position of the body, if necessary. I don’t fix my hands firmly and don’t strap, later I will look for the desired position. If you know for sure the position of the doll, wrap the shoulder joint tightly several times until it moves.
  • It takes a long time to describe it, but it is easy and fairly quick to do. For me, this is one of the most enjoyable and meditative stages of work))). You can always play with volume and reliefs and, based on the same frame, get completely different doll carcasses.

Hello.
I propose to mold similar stylized faces in order to use them for decoration in the future.

I will need them to create Christmas tree decorations. I want to make souvenir Christmas trees, pendants, snowflakes, flowers, for example, the following:

For work we need the following materials:
self-hardening clay for modeling (I have Darvi Pop);
sculpting stacks (I use dental tools);
brushes and wet wipes for smoothing the surface;
a container with water to moisten the clay if necessary;
the surface on which we will sculpt.
I took for work a plastic circle with a diameter of 3 cm from some child's game. He will be for me the limiter of the size and shape of the face. You can use whatever is convenient for you - a cardboard circle, a jar lid, etc.
Let's get started.
1. A small piece of clay is evenly distributed over the surface of the circle. The thickest layer in the center, gradually disappears towards the edges.

2. Draw two lines with a suitable tool, you can just use an awl or a gypsy needle.
3. Select the excess clay.

A skeleton doll is a doll with a soft cloth body on a flexible wire frame with a molded head, arms and legs. It is not so difficult to make it. In this master class, I will show and explain in detail how and from what to make a good wire frame, what fabric is better to cover it with, what can be used as a filler, how to correctly and securely attach the molded head, arms, and legs.

Materials for making a skeleton doll

To create your own flexible wire frame doll, you will need the following materials:

  • wire for the frame (preferably copper, but you can take any other);
  • synthetic winterizer for adding volume to the body;
  • knitted fabric for covering the doll's body;
  • threads, needles and pins - since we will have to sew;
  • already molded, dried and painted head, arms and legs of the doll;
  • tools: wire cutters, pliers, round nose pliers.

The basis of the frame doll is a flexible wire frame. For its manufacture, it is better to take a strong wire. I took 4mm braided copper wire. If it is not possible to get copper wire, then aluminum will do, and even steel. The thickness of the wire used depends on the size of the doll being created. The larger the doll, the thicker and stronger the frame should be for it. My doll will be 35cm high, so I am using 4mm wire. This will be enough for her. In some places, for additional strength of the frame, the wire is used in two (or more) folds and interwoven. When working with wire, it is better to use wire cutters, pliers and round nose pliers. Save your fingers! The frame winding must be tight and strong, the frame stable. The wire should not "creep". The better the frame is twisted, the stronger the doll will be. My wire frame dolls can even stand on their own.

I cover the doll's body with well-stretched jersey. Advice for beginner puppeteers: it is better to take knitted fabric, which, when pulled, does not let the "arrows" from the cut edge. It is much more convenient to work with such a fabric, there is no need to patch up numerous "arrows". How can I check this? Pull the trimmed edge more firmly in different directions. If the edge goes with arrows, such a fabric will not work.

So, let's start creating a doll.

I have broken the whole process of working on a doll into several stages:

The process of creating a skeleton doll

Create a drawing and wireframe for the doll

First, we draw a schematic drawing. This is necessary in order to make the frame exactly the intended shape. Indeed, in the case of a skeleton doll, a wire frame performs the same role as a human spine. At the same time, we determine the proportions of the future doll. Will it look like a person with us, or it will be some kind of creature unknown to science with its own characteristics.
Then, according to the resulting scheme, lay out a piece of wire as shown in the photo and cut it off. This is our "sample". We straighten the resulting sample and cut off three more of the same pieces of wire. We should have 4 equal wire cuts. Now we begin to fold and twist the frame.
We take two pieces of previously cut wire, and begin to twist them together. Twist the wire tightly and tightly enough. It is desirable to make the frame stronger, it depends on how long it will delight you in the future.
Photographs of the stages of creating a puppet wire frame.
This will be the doll's torso.
"Outline" the arms and legs. It is better to braid the intended thighs with wire two or three times to make them stronger and thicker.
It is also better to wrap the body with wire several times. It will be stronger.
The same goes for the arms from shoulder to elbow.
Additional braiding will strengthen the junction of the arms with the torso.
We form the basis of the "chest". This will make it easier for us to model the doll's figure later.
The wire frame for our doll is ready. Now you need to give it the required volume and thickness. This is done with a padding polyester.

Formation of a puppet "figure" on a wire frame

Before you start to form a puppet figure, you need to cut the existing synthetic winterizer in long strips-ribbons. The width of the stripes depends on the size of the doll. The larger the doll, the wider the stripes can be. For my doll with a height of 35 cm, I made strips with a width of 2-3 cm. Before cutting the ribbons from the padding polyester, you need to check in which direction it stretches better and breaks faster. The ribbons should be cut across this weak side. This will make them stronger and you can make the winding more tightly. Winding the wire frame, we hold the padding tape with tension. The doll's "body" should be tight. What is the thickness of the winding? It depends on what shape your doll should have. For a slender one, less padding polyester is required, for a plump fat woman, respectively, more. At the beginning of the winding, we fix the tip of the padding polyester with a booth, which can then be pulled out. It is best to start wrapping the doll frame from the limbs, from the arms or legs. On the "body" we fix the remaining "tails". We wrap the body itself with the very last.
Remember to leave the wire tails as you wrap the arms and legs of the frame. We will attach stucco details to them!
Wrapping the frame with padding polyester, we form the shape of the future doll. It can be made lush or slender. If you are making a humanoid doll, then when shaping its figure, you can peep at the anatomical atlas (or in the photo of models in bathing suits). If this is a "beast unknown to science", then it all depends on your imagination.
I got this body. Rather, it almost worked out. Because now it needs to be sheathed with knitwear.

The final stage of the formation of the doll's body on the frame is sheathing with knitwear

What kind of jersey is better for a doll? The color depends on your idea. And about the ability to "shoot arrows" I have already mentioned. My doll is a human, but her body will not be visible under the clothes, so I did not find fault with the color of the fabric and just took what came to hand. I came across a light jersey.

Before you start cutting out a flap for trimming the doll's body, you need to check which side of the fabric stretches better. In relation to the wire frame, the fabric should stretch well from top to bottom, and poorly stretch in breadth. This is necessary in order for the doll body to be as tight as possible. We put the "body" on jersey, with a wire "neck" we very carefully poke a hole in the fabric, but not tearing, but pushing the fibers apart. If you allow fiber breaks, you can get "arrows" in abundance, which will then be very problematic to sew up.

We measure out the piece necessary in size, cut off all unnecessary. Vertically, the cut should reach the middle of the doll's thighs.

Since the jersey stretches perfectly "from top to bottom" along the "growth" of the carcass, we will carefully pull it when sewing the doll's body and will hold it just to the end of the legs. The length of the fabric for sheathing the doll's body also depends on which part of the legs you are going to sculpt. Only the feet, or almost to the knee.

Before starting to sew, we stretch the fabric and pin the figure with pins along the silhouette, making an indent from the edge. We cut off the excess and sew with a seam "over the edge", gradually getting rid of the pins.
We make the seam neat, as small and dense as possible. And now we have already got a doll body.

How to attach the arms, legs and head of a skeleton doll?

Now let's talk about the stucco parts. I decided to sculpt doll legs almost to the knee, and my arms - to the elbow. Here are the legs in the photo. Take a closer look: there is a wire hole in the center of each piece.

A rather deep hollow is made along the edge of each molded part that will be in contact with the "little body". We will attach the body tissue along this hollow. The deeper the groove, the better it will be possible to sheathe the joint with a cloth and hide the "fastener".

Most often, for frame dolls, masters make a head immediately on the neck, rigidly fastening them. Sometimes shoulders are "added" to the neck, if, for example, it will be a lady in an evening dress with a neckline. In this case, the head is fixed on the frame in the same way as the arms and legs. I decided to complicate my task a little and blind a part of the torso so that I could dress the doll in a shirt that opens wide on the chest. I made the ribcage with the neck in the form of a volumetric lining on the frame, which I tried to give some anatomical human features. In order for the doll to twist its head, I blinded the head separately from the neck, and I arranged the attachment of the head to the body like attachment to articulated dolls. I made a neat hole in the neck through which I connected my head to the torso with a strong elastic band.

The head of my doll is hollow, the eyes can be inserted from the inside and changed periodically (by analogy with the BJD). The skull is made with a lid. The head is connected to the ribcage and wire frame with an elastic band. Under the ribcage, the elastic band firmly covers the frame and is attached to it, and in the head it is fixed with a metal hook.

We insert the wire tails of the frame into the finished parts of the arms and legs, into the very holes in the center of each part. You can add glue inside these holes for greater strength to glue the wire of the frame with stucco details. We stretch the fabric from above and stitch along the edge several times with strong threads, we melt the fabric into the made hollows. Thus, we will more firmly attach the molded parts to the frame and close the joints, arrange them neatly. My doll has LaDoll molded parts. When fixing the wire in the molded part, I added a little raw LaDoll diluted with PVA glue into the holes of the doll's handles and legs. The mixture is very strong and has good adhesion properties.

If your doll's legs are made of baked plastic, you can add a few drops of Moment glue (acetyl acrylate in small tubes) to the wire holes. This will allow you to glue the frame with stucco parts almost tightly. You can read about baked plastics and how to work with them on my website.

We dress our doll in suitable clothes. Our skeleton doll is ready! The arms-legs are bent, the head turns. However, it is not recommended to play too actively with such skeleton dolls and partly change their poses. The wire may not be able to withstand, and it will be difficult to repair it.

I hope this workshop will be useful to you and will help you create your own skeleton doll. Believe me, this is very interesting!

Thank you for your attention and good luck with your work!

The skeleton doll is an original toy that will be the perfect addition to a private collection or decoration of a room. The cost of such toys is quite high, some items are generally made to order. You can make a doll yourself, showing skills for needlework, imagination in creating an image, enjoying the process. This saves the family's budget.

Making a "skeleton" of a toy

A skeleton doll is a toy whose base is made of flexible material. Often, wire is used for these purposes, since it is strong, bends well, easily deformed, and takes the required shape.

Experienced craftsmen in their work do not use any wire, but a certain type. It is convenient to work with copper, aluminum and steel. Often, a material with a diameter of 4 millimeters is selected. This parameter can increase depending on the need for the rigidity of the frame and the size of the doll.

To strengthen the common frame, several wires are sometimes intertwined. In order not to overload the "skeleton" with wire, it is worth strengthening only the most functional areas with several bindings: legs, arms, the body itself.

Having decided on the size, you should cut off two identical pieces of wire, from which the legs, torso and head will be formed. Having measured the length of the legs, you can begin to twist the workpieces. The place of the twist is the torso. Having reached the site of the position of the hands, it is required to take the third piece of wire and weave it with the workpiece. After completing the skeleton under the arms from the main strips of wire, you should continue to shape the neck and head in the form of a loop.

There are other techniques for forming a wire frame. Each master selects the option that is easiest to work with. Experienced craftsmen make the torso mobile and flexible, connecting all parts of the toy's body with loops.

What material is suitable for finishing the body

When the "skeleton" of the toy is ready, you can start making the torso. There are many options here that involve the use of one or another execution technique, depending on the material chosen.

The body of a skeleton doll can be made of the following types of materials:

  • Polymer clay is suitable for those craftsmen who have modeling skills. A polymer clay product will be strong but not flexible.
  • The work uses textiles and synthetic winterizer, the process is similar to creating a soft toy: a base is sewn, which is stuffed with soft material.
  • The metal frame can be tied with a crochet hook or knitting needles. Creation is similar to working with textiles.
  • The body, made using the papier-mâché technique, accurately repeats all the lines of a person, but remains too fragile.
  • With the technique that makes reeled dolls, you can easily create a body. Threads, strips of fabric, ribbons are wound on the frame.
  • Forming the base with cotton wool and paper glue. Cotton wool is used to create volume, and paperclay fixes the soft base.

Sometimes several techniques are combined in one product, each element of the doll's body is created from a certain type of material.

The design is formed with the help of little things: the colors of the doll, clothes, hairstyles, jewelry. But the general image needs to be thought out initially, when choosing a topic. The most popular option for frame dolls is Columbine, which is available in any collection of a self-respecting collector.

Harlequin, clown, gypsy, doll in gothic style... More romantic and light images are: a fairy, an angel, a girl in a light dress, an elf and other fairy-tale heroes.

Self-made frame dolls can have any theme and design that suits the master to complete the collection. To make the product bright, memorable and original, you should pay special attention to the costume, posture and face painting.

Secrets about details

In any product that is made by hand, it is important to think over the details and trifles of appearance. For a better understanding of the process of creating a unique toy, it is useful to familiarize yourself with the master classes. In frame dolls, professionals mostly focus the viewer's attention on making hair, eyes, eyelashes, eyebrows.

The masters say that the hardest thing to do is to make the eyes. There are several options for preparing this element: buy ready-made parts from plastic, glass, ceramics, or make your own eyes for the doll: from transparent beads, by drawing on material, using embroidery.

Eyelashes and eyebrows are shaped in several ways. Most often, these details of the doll's appearance are made from false eyelashes. Natural fur hairs are used. If the doll is made in a playful style, then the eyelashes are made from loose braid.

To make the doll look more natural, it is better to use natural or synthetic hair. In special departments you can buy hairpins, hairpieces, strands. Less commonly, fluffy threads, brocade separated into fibers are used. This option will distance the doll from being human.

What you need to crochet a doll

To create a frame is quite simple for those who know how to knit. Such a product can be used to decorate the interior, donate it or use it for games.

To bring the idea to life, it is worth preparing necessary tools and materials:

  • Suitable for creating a torso.It is recommended to choose beige, white, peach and pink tones.
  • Buttons are needed to move the arms and legs.
  • The hook number is selected according to the thread diameter.
  • If the details of the torso are sewn together, then silk threads and a needle will be required.
  • Catonic yarn is suitable for making hair.
  • Beads and several floss colors will become relevant when creating a face.
  • Any thread for knitting is necessary for the outfit.
  • Decorative materials: ribbons, nylon, buttons.
  • Prepared wire frame.
  • Filler to create volume.

We knit a small doll crochet without tearing

The simplest option for beginners will be a crocheted frame doll (process description in the text below). The product is knitted entirely without joining parts. The height of the toy will be approximately 15-18 centimeters.

To create a wireframe, you will need the following materials:

  1. 50 grams of beige cotton yarn.
  2. Hook number 3.
  3. Sintepon.
  4. Wire with cross section 2 millimeters.
  5. Long skewers.

Getting started: crocheting a frame doll

A master class on manufacturing consists in describing the procedure. You need to start by tying certain parts of the body, preferably from the hands. Scheme for getting started:

  1. Form a 6 single crochet amigurumi ring.
  2. In the 2nd row, increase the number of loops by 2 single crochet.
  3. We knit the 3rd and 4th rows according to the given algorithm.
  4. 5th row: 1 single crochet, 2 single crochet in 1 loop, 6 single crochet.
  5. 1 double crochet, decrease and knit 5 single crochet.
  6. Reduce the loops again and knit 5 single crochets.
  7. 3 rows knit 6 single crochet.
  8. Single crochet, add 4 single crochet.
  9. 2 rows knit the resulting 7 single crochet.
  10. 2 single crochets + raise + 4 single crochets.
  11. Knit 14 rows of 8 single crochet in each row.

We knit legs

Now for a knitted frame doll you need to make legs:

  1. Work begins with the right leg.
  2. The first row is the same as for the arms.
  3. Increase in 3 consecutive rows of 1 single crochet.
  4. Knit 3 rows of 9 single crochet.
  5. By knitting 4 single crochets, turn the work 4 times.
  6. In the next row, decreasing after a single crochet, knit 1 loop in a circle.
  7. Add stitches until you have 12 stitches.
  8. In each subsequent row, decrease the columns until you get 9 loops.
  9. Knit 6 rows like this.
  10. Add 1 loop.
  11. 2 rows are knitted with 10 loops.
  12. Add 2 loops = 12 loops.
  13. 7 rows knit 12 single crochet.
  14. Decrease the column.
  15. Decrease the column again.

To create a knee, it is worthwhile to smoothly decrease the loops to 10, and then gradually restore the initial number again. To create the shape of the thighs, it is better not to do any subtractions / additions.

In the process of assembling the torso and legs, you will see exactly where to decrease and where to increase the number of rows. Sometimes such correction "by eye" is simply necessary, because knitting often has different densities.

We knit the torso and head

It is very easy to knit amigurumi frame dolls if you adhere to the scheme. The next step is to make the torso:

  1. One leg joins the first air loop, then 11 single crochets are knitted, add 3 columns. Make an air loop, which is the base for the second leg. Another 3 additions and again knit 11 columns. Close the circle.
  2. Add one column in each subsequent row until the total is 19.
  3. Knit 12 rows with 19 stitches.
  4. Next, the arms are joined in the same way as the legs.
  5. In each row, there is a decrease 2 times.
  6. When moving to the neck, only 5 columns should remain.

Without looking up from the body, it is worth starting to knit a transition for the head:

  1. In the next four rows, add 5 columns.
  2. Knit 11 rows of 40 columns unchanged.
  3. Decrease 4 columns, and in 4 subsequent rows, 6 columns.
  4. After 12 columns remain, it is worthwhile to make another reduction so that 6 columns remain.

Assembling the product

For an experienced craftsman, a crocheted frame doll is made without seams if crocheted or knitted. In the process, sequential assembly takes place, by attaching body parts to air loops.

On knitted dolls, eyes and other facial features are usually embroidered. "Hair" is threaded with a crochet hook. Next, an outfit is made and decoration is performed. An outfit with textile elements is suitable for a knitted doll.

Creation of costumes and auxiliary inventory

The finished frame doll needs to be beautifully dressed. Sometimes the making of the costume takes longer than the creation of the doll itself. You can sew costumes by hand or on a sewing machine.

Some craftsmen sew the outfit directly on the doll. This removes a ton of problems:

  • The outfit will exactly match the size of the doll.
  • The manufacturing procedure is simplified and accelerated.
  • If you put on separately sewn items, you can damage the doll.

There are many options and designs for creating outfits. Sections can be finished with ribbons, lace, braid, damage - it all depends on the design of the doll itself.

Dolls are different: collectible, for children to play, souvenir, created with your own hands. The latter, in turn, are also divided into many groups. These are textile Tilda, articulated beauties difficult to manufacture from polymer clay, frame dolls with a rag body and paper-glue limbs. The latter - paperglue dolls - combine the simplicity of a textile doll and the grace of an articulated one.

Drawing a sketch of a future doll

Any do-it-yourself doll master class recommends starting the creative process with making a sketch. And no wonder! After all, if you leave the idea in your head, be too lazy to transfer it to paper, then you can inevitably face the problem of either a discrepancy in the size of the body and head, or asymmetry.

And in general, most likely, it will turn out not what was expected at the beginning of work.

Therefore, drawing a future creation on paper is one of the most important parts of the job..

So, if you do not have special drawing skills and do not really want to deal with the anatomy and proportions of a person (or any other creature - after all, a doll can be at least a cat, at least a half-human, half-horse), you need to find a suitable drawing on the Internet and print it in the required sizes.

There is no need to cut out the details, they will only serve as a basis to which you need to apply the body parts of the future doll. As you can see in the figure, the proportions of a person differ depending on their age. Therefore, when creating a doll, you need to think in advance whether it will be an adult, a teenager or even a baby.

Creating a skeleton from wire

Next, you need to make a wire frame for the doll in such a way that it fulfills its main function - the function of the musculoskeletal system, and in no case spoils appearance products.

To make the frame, you need a thick wire... It is necessary to cut off the required amount of wire (attach to the sketch), twist the skeleton out of it.

If a toy with plastic limbs is planned, then the length of the skeletal arms and legs should be half the length (up to the elbows and knees).

Further, the volume (muscle mass) is increased on the wire skeleton... To do this, you can use thick jute threads, it is easier, but then the craft will be tough. Or you can use a synthetic winterizer, which is a little more complicated, because you will have to tinker with it, but then it will be pleasant to wrinkle the doll in your hands. In any case, it all depends on the idea and imagination of the creator. You can also use foil or toilet paper.

Muscle volume is rewound so that the doll's body looks like a real one. To do this, it is important not to forget about the waist, hips, chest and, of course, about the sketch, to which you need to periodically apply the craft.

When the figure of the product has received the proper form, you can proceed to covering it with knitwear. It is better to take the fabric in a flesh color so that it resembles real human skin. The doll needs to be put on the fabric, outline the silhouette, cut and sewn directly onto the figure.

In order to make it the most accurate, you can use a blind stitch. But in any case, the parts with seams are likely to be hidden by clothing, so you don't need to overwork too much. If there is a lot of fabric, the excess can be cut off. The main thing is not to forget to pull the material over the frame so that the skin does not turn out saggy or wrinkled.

If the idea and skills allow, the doll's skin can be crocheted from flesh-colored threads.

Shaping the doll's head

Since the head is the most visible part of the doll, it is very important to approach the process, as they say, wisely. The first step is to choose what material, in fact, the head will be made of.... And the choice here is rather big.

It can be textiles with padding polyester (preferably the same color as the body), while the face can be painted with acrylics or embroidered with threads. It can be polymer plastic (self-curing or baked in the oven), a mixed technique of papier-mâché and plastic. In this case, you need to take one that does not need to be baked, otherwise the paper layer may catch fire.

Creative stores sell a great variety of different baked and self-separating plastic different brands, volumes and price palette. It is better for novice craftswomen to opt for a wonderful material - paper paste. Primarily because you can do it yourself. After all, starting from scratch, you can make many mistakes, and the materials are expensive, and it is generally difficult for those living in small cities to get them. And so - and cheaper, and it will not be a pity to spoil something. According to its properties, papekli is similar to self-hardening clay, it can be painted with acrylic paints, sanded with fine sandpaper.

So, in order to make paperclay at home, you will need:

First of all, you need to take 20 grams of toilet paper of the desired color (the color of the future product depends on it) - this is about a third of the roll, put it in a bowl and pour hot water... Then squeeze the water, and tear the paper into small pieces.

Then pour 75 grams of PVA glue, stir until smooth, carefully removing lumps and pieces of paper that are not wet in the glue. After 125 grams of filler, pour into a container and mix with paper and glue. Then add 50 grams of flour, gradually stirring. The mass is free-flowing, so you need to dilute it with oil - 20 grams will be enough.

The last component is starch (50 grams). Mix it gently into the mass. If it starts to crumble, add a little water. Store the resulting paper-glue in a hermetically sealed container.

It can be cling film plastic bag or a lunch box with a tight screw cap.

When the self-hardening clay is ready, you can start sculpting the head.... For work you will need:

  • paperclay or other self-hardening clay;
  • foil;
  • knife or stack;
  • skin;
  • acrylic paints, brushes.

You need to make the shape of the future head from the foil; it should be slightly smaller than the sketch. Then roll out a thin layer of paper-glue and cover the foil with it, carefully crushing it with your fingers. In order not to be mistaken with symmetry, you can mentally draw lines along and across on the future head, or dry it a little and draw the lines with a real pencil.

To make it easier to work, you can put your head on a pencil or chopstick.

In the places of the future eyes, you need to make symmetrical indentations with your fingers. Roll a ball from a separate piece of clay and stick it on the place of the nose, brush it with wet fingers, form the nose. Blind the lips from a small cylinder of clay, smear thoroughly using water. It is most convenient to stick first the upper lip, then the lower one, separate them with a knife or a stack. Make the chin in the same way.

With the help of additional pieces of clay, make the jaw, enlarge the cheeks, eyebrows and forehead. For the eyes, make small cakes, place them in the extruded pits, cut out with an arc stack. Attach the upper eyelid separately. Smear all parts well with damp fingers. The head can now be dried.

When the head is dry enough (about a day), it needs to be sanded, and then it can be tinted with paints or cosmetics, painted with acrylic paints.

To make the doll a chic hairstyle, you need to make a hole on the top of the head. For hair, you can buy ready-made tresses or make them yourself from mohair or wool.... The tresses are rolled up and glued into the hole. This is how the top of the hairstyle turns out. The rest of the hair is carefully glued around the perimeter of the head.

Assembling the finished product

Connect the doll's torso made during the second step to the head with glue. While the joint is drying, you can secure it with a plaster. Now the beauty can be dressed. The doll will look alive if it is given the pose of a human.

Attention, only TODAY!

Dolls are not at all like ordinary toys, especially when it comes to handmade designer dolls. They do not just look like they are alive, because any master who creates these small masterpieces with his own hands puts a whole world into each doll: he comes up with and thinks out her future image to the smallest detail, endows the creation with a name, character, destiny and his own history. That is why all dolls are so original and unique.

If you want to become a part of the world of doll makers, try to learn from already recognized and venerable masters. Thanks to their tips, photo lessons and master classes, you can also make a beautiful doll with your own hands. The main thing is just to want and start inventing her image ...

The doll is like a mirror of the soul of its author

Any creation begins with an idea, with a spark of an idea that has come. Not all master classes can show this, but often the masters draw sketches of the future doll so as not to miss anything and not to forget. Depending on what image is planned, the material is selected. However, sometimes a master can work with only one material, trying to improve all the time and achieve the ideal in his creations.

Designer dolls are created in a variety of techniques: they can be made of plastic, papier-mâché, molded from polymer clay or porcelain, sewn from fabric, have a soft body or a wire frame, etc. Today we will talk about frame dolls for making which uses a material such as paper glue.

Translated, its name means "paper clay". This material is a pliable mass created on a cellulose basis (it is worth distinguishing between polymer-based and clay-based materials). You can sculpt and model anything from it. Paperclay has many advantages over other plastics:

  • it is lightweight and is not subject to dust adhesion during the molding process, like baked plastic;
  • you can easily sand the product so that the sandpaper will not leave scratches on it, and you can get rid of small flaws with a simple putty;
  • paper glue is like a canvas that you can paint in any desired color, based on the range of the doll's costume and its image, it is also worth noting that paper glue can be easily painted with acrylic paints (their advantage over oil is that they dry faster).

True, this material is rather fragile, but this small flaw can be dealt with by observing some of the secrets of the puppeteer masters.

For inspiration and search for possible images, look at the works of famous authors who have been creating dolls for a long time: Alisa Bazhenkova, Galina Shitova, Lyubov Lukyanchuk, Minenko Victoria, Yulia Nazarenko, Dyachenko Oksana and many others. Their dolls can be found in various famous art galleries, they are also often exhibited in thematic exhibitions and are acquired by avid collectors for private collections.

Of course, such designer dolls cost quite a lot, for example, the simplest copies can be bought from 10,000-12,000 rubles, and if you want to get a custom-made doll in an outfit of some historical era, completely handmade using various techniques, with expensive fabrics or accessories, then its cost can start from $ 100 and more.

From theory to practice, from idea to creation

Do not be discouraged and afraid that you will succeed in the same way as the masters, because they once also started small. Be prepared for not entirely successful specimens at first, but believe that after numerous practical training you can definitely make a dream doll with your own hands.

Paperglue frame dolls are presented in collections in the most unexpected ways: gentle angels, mysterious fairies, nymphs, elves, fatal beauties and prim ladies, sophisticated dancers and graceful cocottes, harlequins, hatters, cute and naive children, etc. However, the manufacturing process will usually be the same.

  1. After creating a sketch of the future doll and preparing everyone necessary materials you can get to work. Your initial task will be to make a frame and a stand on which the doll can sit, stand or take the position that you have conceived.
  2. The frame with your own hands can be made of wire. It is better to use thin steel or copper wire (copper wire is suitable with a cross section of 2.5-3.5). The wire frame is very important point for a frame doll, because if you make it fragile, then the doll will collapse, it will not be able to stay on its feet. It is also worthwhile to carefully approach the anatomical features and proportionality of the body parts of your creation, so that you can then blind them correctly.
  3. So, according to the proportions, we turn the skeleton from the wire. Prepare yourself several pieces of different lengths so that you can not stop at this in the process. You can take two roughly the same wires and bend them in half - so you get two pieces that will have four tails at the bottom and a fold at the top. Shape the neck and bend the tails perpendicular to it to create the shoulders. Then twist all the tails below - you get a waist. Spread them at the bottom of the waist to shoulder width apart and form a pelvis.
  4. Next, you will need new pieces of wire to make the legs and arms. Bend one piece and tie it in the pelvic area to the already obtained frame (you can use a heat gun, medical plaster, electrical tape or the same wire for attaching). To get the handles out, take another piece, attach it to the shoulder area and bend it on both sides. Attach these handles to the common frame.
  5. Additionally, you can twist other parts of the body out of wire, such as a chest or butt for a doll. This is not necessary, however, with them it will be easier for you to wrap the frame later.
  6. There will be five wires in the legs. Wrap them in a spiral with a wire of a smaller section so as not to twist together. If the arms or legs of the pupa are longer than you want, you can cut off the excess.
  7. Check the symmetry of the body. Next, work begins on its formation. Some craftsmen use for this wrapping with cotton threads impregnated with glue, others prefer batting or synthetic winterizer for volume, you can also take foil, toilet paper, and for the final winding - floral tape or medical bandage with PVA primer. We build up the body and sew it with knitwear. At this stage, it is worth deciding on the pose of your doll, since when the "carcass" dries and hardens, it will hardly be possible to change it.
  8. We proceed to sculpting the head and arms, as well as modeling the face. To do this, we need such a wonderful material - paper-glue, which is called self-hardening plastic. However, it looks a little like plastic. You can sculpt by building any number of layers until you achieve the perfect facial features. If you dilute it with water (to make a gruel), then you can smooth out the unevenness or smooth out an acute angle. When you're done sculpting, so that the head, face and hands look as they should, you will need to sand the surface with a zero sandpaper (you can also use a nail polish at the end).
  9. Paint all exposed parts of the body with acrylic paint (very carefully, making sure there are no drips). Then paint the doll's face, apply the necessary makeup to her, make eyes (you can use purchased ones, outline a bead, make them from Fimo, etc.), sponges, cheeks. You can add glitter at the end and apply the last layer of matte acrylic varnish - this will protect the doll from dust and moisture.
  10. Make eyelashes and hair at your discretion - you can take thread, dreadlocks, fur, special items for dolls or real natural wigs.
  11. Clothes can be sewn directly on the doll, then it will not be possible to remove it. If you want to make her a wardrobe, then you need to create outfits separately. Do not forget about shoes, hats, jewelry and other accessories that your doll needs.
