Lineberger Orthodontics is looking for an orthodontic assistant. We are looking for a Smile-Obsessed warrior, who can not only tolerate but will actually subtly dance in their chair to very loud 90’s music and top 40 pop/hip hop, or they may possibly have a yogi-hippie-vibe and can smile calmly amongst insane chaos while also having some other unique attributes to bring to the table such as an encyclopedic knowledge on the history of tacos or like a Grand Master Sensei of Mario Kart kinda skill. This position is for our OG practice in Huntersville with the possibility of working at our Mooresville location too.

Qualifications:
• 1-2 years of orthodontic experience is required for this position
• An appreciation of gas-station-type snack cakes like Twinkies or Zingers is preferred, but simply buying them for Doc Mateo on a random-act-of-kindness basis will suffice if you are not a fan
• Must love hugs, puppies, sneakers, bad movies (The Room, Gymkata, Troll 2 are some of the faves), and hustlin’. Orthodontic Dental Assistant Job Description Template

We are looking to hire an experienced orthodontic dental assistant to assist the orthodontist with initial patient consults and regular check-ups. The orthodontic dental assistant's responsibilities include taking directions from the orthodontist, cleaning and polishing patients’ teeth before the installation of braces, and removing patients’ braces upon completion of orthodontic treatments. You should also ensure that the necessary orthodontic instruments and tools are on hand during patient appointments.

To be successful as an orthodontic dental assistant, you should have good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to ensure the safety of patients during orthodontic procedures. Ultimately, an exceptional orthodontic dental assistant should be able to demonstrate patience as well as excellent organizational and communication skills.

Orthodontic Dental Assistant Responsibilities:

• Maintaining accurate records of patients' oral health histories and treatment progress.
• Ensuring that all orthodontic instruments and equipment are properly sterilized before each use.
• Keeping patients’ mouths dry during orthodontic procedures by using a suction hose as needed.
• Taking intraoral X-rays of patients’ mouths.
• Taking photographs of patients’ teeth to aid the Orthodontist in developing treatment plans and to document patient progress.
• Taking dental molds of patients’ teeth for the fabrication of customized mouthguards and retainers.
• Removing and replacing wires, coil springs, donuts, and elastic bands.
• Educating patients on proper oral hygiene practices and braces aftercare.

Orthodontic Dental Assistant Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Associate's degree in dental assisting.
• Certified as an orthodontic assistant by the Dental Assisting National Body (DANB).
• Licensed to provide orthodontic assistance.
• CPR certification.
• Proven experience working as an orthodontic dental assistant.
• Sound knowledge of various orthodontic procedures and practices.
• Good manual dexterity.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Effective communication skills.

General Duties

Orthodontic Assistants help the Doctor with patients who require corrective procedures for alignment and spacing issues. They assist the Doctors in many aspects of patient care and procedures, and making the patient feel more comfortable upon arrival while prepping the patient for the day’s visit.

Assistants must help Orthodontists to clearly see problems and changes within a patient’s mouth. This often requires taking x-rays of the bone structure of a patient’s jaw, as well as taking photographs of the teeth and creating molds of a patients’ bite.

They also ensure that the necessary tools are sterilized and in place, and keep a patient’s mouth clean and dry during procedures and will hand an orthodontist the necessary tools at the appropriate time.

Requirements

• CDA/COA Certification – we will consider those candidates that are preparing for certification
• Ability to work Tues and Wed and alternating Fridays at our Hyannis and Orleans locations
• High School Diploma or Associate Degree from an Accredited Institution
• Experience working in a dental office
• EFDA Certification is highly desirable
• Eager, energetic, and strong sense of personal values – we are a culture of care
• Ability to travel if required, between multiple locations as needed to fill-in support
