Wealth Advisor Associate Program

We are looking for determined, goal-oriented candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds to become Morgan Stanley Financial Advisors starting in our Wealth Advisor Associate Program. This one year program offers candidates who don’t come from a traditional financial or sales background an opportunity to gain support, guidance and build a network to help them succeed as Financial Advisors.

The Wealth Advisor Associate Program is a diversity program of Morgan Stanley, with a focus on attracting Black, Hispanic, Native American, Asian, Female and other diverse talent. 

Our one year Wealth Advisor Associate Program is a unique opportunity that prepares you to become a Financial Advisor through a combination of fine-tuned financial planning skills,  partnerships with Senior Financial Advisors, and leveraging innovative tools and technology to better assist them in growing their practices.

The first phase of the program is comprised of a curriculum on industry products, services, financial planning tools, client acquisition skills, the Financial Planning Specialist (FPS) program, and obtaining the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE), Series 7 and Series 66 licenses.

Following successful completion of the first phase, you will partner with senior Financial Advisors to gain valuable hands on experience with our various wealth planning and digital solutions across the platform.  You will utilize the tools and solutions provided by the Firm creating financial plans and presenting the analyses to clients helping them achieve their financial goals. Upon completion of the Wealth Advisor Associate Program, you will transition into the 3 year Financial Advisor Associate program. Financial Advisor Associates are responsible for using business-management knowledge, financial planning and networking talents to provide clients with individualized and comprehensive financial services and investment strategies.

The Wealth Advisor Associate program offers:

  • The opportunity to become a Financial Advisor Associate upon completion of the Wealth Advisor Associate Program
  • Proprietary training in Sales, Finance, Wealth Planning, Investment Strategies and Investment Products
  • Financial Planning and the utilization of Morgan Stanley’s suite of financial planning tools and resources
  • Personalized wealth management guidance so you can help clients prepare for their financial future

Job requirements for application include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, sales, marketing or a related field—or equivalent to five years professional experience in business development, management, sales, legal, accounting, education, military, finance or other business

  • Strong community presence with a strong network of personal and business contacts

A TRAINING PROCESS GEARED TOWARDS YOUR SUCCESS

Our rigorous training and development program is designed to fully prepare our FAAs to enter our elite Financial Advisor workforce. The FAA Program is highly selective, and we accept only the top candidates. The program is broken out into three phases:

Phase 1
FAAs are required to pass the Securities Industry Essential (SIE) Exam and obtain Series 7 and 66 licenses, begin consultation meetings with their designated coaches appointed to them at the commencement of the program, complete assigned curriculum, and attend National Performance Training Sessions.

Phase 2
FAAs learn about wealth management topics and client conversations, participate in weekly coaching meetings, prospect for clients and open new account relationships. 

Phase 3
In this final stage, FAAs learn to manage and expand client relationships, gather referrals, target specific niche markets, complete the Financial Planning Specialist (FPS) program, and meet frequently with their Manager.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete proprietary training in finance, wealth planning, investment strategies and products.
  • Effectively source business prospects and employ client acquisition techniques.
  • Consult with clients on wealth management strategies based on their financial and investment goals.
  • Balance referral activities, customer follow-ups and administrative tasks.
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements, including licensing and registrations.
  • Meet pre-determined production goals as outlined in training program.

Fees Under Morgan Stanley Wealth Management

Just as the account minimums vary by program type, so do the fees. For investment advisory services, Morgan Stanley Wealth Management say its fees are generally based on a percentage of the total value of your assets under management at the end of the previous quarter. These fees are charged in advance each quarter. Morgan Stanley Wealth Management says it may also receive commissions and markups, as well as other fees and charges including account maintenance fees, account transfer and termination fees, cash management services fees, third-party fees and investment specific fees.

Morgan Stanley says the MSWM fee, the annual fee it charge for its services, is a minimum of % or $ per year, depending on which is lesser. For financial planning services, the maximum fee for the delivery and review of a financial plan, aside from the firm's LifeView Connect Program, is generally $5, However, the maximum fee may increase to as much as $10, if more than $5 million in assets are considered in the financial plan and the financial advisor managing the plan holds a specific certification, such as a certified financial planner (CFP) or a chartered financial analyst (CFA) designation.

Morgan Stanley Wealth Management Brokerage Partnerships

Morgan Stanley Wealth Management is also registered as a broker-dealer. The broker-dealer designation for Morgan Stanley Wealth Management is Morgan Stanley Smith Barney.

As a broker-dealer, Morgan Stanley will make securities transactions on your behalf, among other services. Unlike the wealth management side, Morgan Stanley Smith Barney does not have the discretion to buy and sell securities for its clients, nor does it have a fiduciary nor advisory duty to its clients. Morgan Stanley financial advisors can provide both brokerage services and investment advisory services.
