Step into Crochet with Rohn Strong

Step into Crochet with Rohn Strong is a new book and we are just tickled he has returned to Yarn Thing with Marly

Bird to share it!

Rohn Strong is one of the most passionate crafters you’ll find. He’s an author, designer, instructor, and broadcast

personality in the knitting and crochet world. He specializes in crochet, tunisian crochet, hand knitting, and loom knitting.

Start crocheting socks on the right foot.Step into Crochet is the most comprehensive guide to creating crocheted socks. Author Rohn Strong shares 19 patterns for cozy socks, along with a wide variety of techniques, in this must-have reference and pattern book.

The first section of Step into Crochet focuses on construction methods: you’ll learn basic toe-up and cuff-down construction, while being introduced to a variety of heel and toe treatments. Plus, you’ll find out what makes a certain heel/toe combination perfect for socks!

The pattern section includes 19 socks ranging from basic ribbed and simple socks (great for customizing) to more technique-based pieces, focusing on colorwork, lace, cables, and motifs. Whether you’re ready to jump into crocheting socks feet first, or just dipping your toe in to try out a few fun patterns, Step into Crochet is your go-to resource. Purchase Step into Crochet with Marly’s affiliate code!

Keep up with this very busy guy through his website. www.RohnStrong.com, also through other media, like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, plus his Ravelry Designer page and Group.

Rohn has visited the Yarn Thing podcast a few times, because we love him so, the first time was in 2013, again in 2014 , with his book New Methods in Crochet Socks 2015 and then about his Craftsy Class last year.

If you missed getting to hear this live, Marly’s Facebook page has video from her studio (her awesome laugh with Rohn’s voice!) http://www.blogtalkradio.com/yarnthing/2017/07/18/step-into-crochet-with-rohn-strong

Crochet socks are, as most of you may know, my favorite item to make. They are quick, easy, fun, and don’t take a whole lot of skill to complete. If you can crochet a hat, you can crochet a sock! Seriously!

The biggest thing you’ll have to tackle is fit. Once you’ve got the fit down, you’ve got the skills you need!

Today, I want to share with you my Top 5 FREE Crochet Sock Patterns I’ve made. They come from Lion Brand, Red Heart, and Myself. Working on these socks will help you improve your skills and set you up for success when you want to start working on more complicated socks later on.

These socks are all beginner and listed in no particular order. Simply click the links, head to the websites and go to town!

1. Le Becque Socks

We’ll begin with one of my favorite patterns I’ve designed. The Le Becque Socks. These were for a free Crochet Along I had with the folks over at Furls Crochet Hooks. The pattern is still available online, though. The pattern is in three parts so you’ll just want to follow weeks 1-4 for all the info. They are a lot of fun and super stretchy. So, you won’t have to be too persnickety about fit!

2. Surf and Sand Socks

Okay so these might not be the most beginner of all the beginner socks but I can’t express just how fun they are. I designed these with variegated yarn in mind. I really wanted a type of stitch that would play with the yarn in the best way possible! I love how they came out…and that heel? So comfortable!

3. Men’s Crochet Socks

Lion Brand hit the mark with these fresh and fun crochet socks designed for men. A reinforced heel and classic toe allow the vanilla style sock construction to shine through. I love these socks and they’d work for just about anyone – not just men. I’d only caution on the fit. Take time to make a gauge swatch and measure well! Lion Brand sock yarn doesn’t have the most amount of stretch in it.

4. Cozy at Home Crochet Socks

I learned to crochet socks from Karen Whooley and it wouldn’t be polite to list all my fav crochet socks and not include a design of hers. The Cozy at Home Crochet Socks are made for wearing around the house and look as comfy as they probably are. I’m not a huge fan of calling slippers…socks…because, well, they’re not. But I’m forgiving this small mistake because…honestly…look at that pink!

5. Colorful Crochet Socks

These socks are just fun to look at and easy to make. The cuff is worked horizontally which means you get all the east of working in rows and the stretch it offers! They work up super fast too. I’d work both cuffs, then move onto the feet from there! No second sock syndrome.

Toe Up Knit Socks and Toe Up Crochet Socks | 2020 Sock-Along

Time to learn how to make toe up knit socks and toe up crochet socks with Marly Bird and guest designer, Rohn Strong. Get expert guidance with step-by-step video tutorials, a free sock pattern, and a facebook group to help answer your questions.

We work our way through our 2020 Sock-Along over the course of 3 weeks. It is for both knitters and crocheters. And as mentioned, we will be working on toe up socks.

Knit socks are a staple for many knitters. If you are working on your first or 100th pair I am sure that you will have fun and will learn some things along the way. Find My Complete Guide to Learning How to Knit Socks Here.

Crochet socks are a delicate dance of getting the structure of the sock without the bulk of crochet. Let’s learn from the best and stitch up the beautiful pattern from Rohn.

Just a reminder, the pattern will always remain free here on my website and you do not need to purchase the Ad Free PDF to participate in the sock-along or to get the pattern. But I understand having it makes it easier to follow along.

What is a Sock-Along

The 2020 Sock-Along is a make-along for both knitters and crocheters. We can all work together on this project as we each make a toe up sock. Rohn Strong is our special guest designer and has created a beautiful pair of crochet socks for our event. I, Marly Bird, designed the knit pair.

Make-alongs, in this case a sock-along, are a great way for knitters and crocheters to work alongside each other making something that is similar but not identical. Knitters and crocheters will both be making a pair of toe up basic socks, perfect for advanced beginners. This ‘vanilla’ sock will have build your confidence to work on any sock you want.

Over a three week period I will release new sections of the project giving us time to work along together. If you follow along with the links below you will be able to make each section for each week. At the end of the three weeks you will have a beautiful finished pair of toe up socks.

My First Toe Up Crochet Socks with Rohn Strong 1 of 3

Me as his property. And I love it. Moreover, it excites me to the extreme.

Now discussing:

The girl admired the sea and the great mountains that descended from Roerich's airs, and we went from tourist magazines. I listened to how. The waves break on the rocky coastline and grottoes, breathed in the smell of the sea and looked at every new flower, wood, uncommon weird little big On gaze her gaze caught his light playful gaze. She's gone. I left my own dear to myself in the room, without giving this exchange of glances of meaning.
