With more tracks in Mario Kart 8: Deluxe come more shortcuts to find. Here’s a rundown of every shortcut, as well as some course-specific tips.
Mushroom Cup
Flower Cup
Star Cup
Special Cup
Shell Cup
Banana Cup
Leaf Cup
Lightning Cup
Egg Cup
Triforce Cup
Crossing Cup
Bell Cup
As the most basic Cup, there aren’t a whole lot of nuances to learn, but the Mushroom Cup does hide a few secrets.
Mario Kart Stadium
Shortcut 1: The main shortcut in Mario Kart Stadium is at the very end of each lap. Just look for the pipes in the rough and use a boost item (a mushroom or star) to blast past the sand.
Water Park
Shortcut 1: It’s not a traditional shortcut, but you can rub against these tire-like objects while in the water for a boost. They’ll follow the center track.
Shortcut 2: In that same underwater area, you can boost over or simply drive over this carousel and shave a second off your time.
Sweet Sweet Canyon
Shortcut 1: Both the left and right paths of Sweet Sweet Canyon are mirror images, note which paths other human players are taking. If you’re in the lead, try to veer off and go on a track others aren’t on so you can avoid more accurate item attacks.
Shortcut 2: Another straight boost path is located near the end of the track if you have an appropriate item. Just aim for the donut.
Thwomp Ruins
Shortcut 1: You have the option of taking the traditional left road or the gravity tilted right side. The right path actually has two more coins on it, so take it if you’re running low on your coin stock.
Shortcut 2: After the second thwomp in the outdoor area near the end of the course, you’ll find a platform to jump to.
Shortcut 3: Near the finish line you can land on either the left or right ramps to get a stunt boostand grab a few coins.
Shortcut 4: After the first lap, the center area of the pond zone will open up, allowing players to take another path with a glide ramp.
It’s getting a little trickier with the Flower Cup, but most of the shortcuts are in plain sight.
Mario Circuit
Shortcut 1: There’s really only one shortcut to speak of in this simple track. Near the end you can take the optional flight ramp to soar over other players — just watch the towers of goombas.
Toad Harbor
Shortcut 1: Right near the start, you can take the left side ramp to leap over the docks, which gives you a straight shot to the upper scaffolding area away from players. Note however that it’s very easy for someone else to knock you into the water, so be wary of taking it if someone is behind you with an item (after the first lap).
Shortcut 2: Right after the market, you have a choice: the left low road or the right high road. Both are basically equal, but again, note which path other players typically take and do the opposite if you’re in the lead.
Shortcut 3: If you keep getting hit by the trolleys, consider taking this safe left path after the aforementioned split.
Shortcut 4: Have a boost item? Ignore the left side and just boost forward over the grass near the finish line.
Twisted Mansion
Shortcut 1: Obscured to the left here is a rough path shortcut. Use a boost item.
Shortcut 2: If you have enough top speed directly following the water area, you can hit a stunt boost off the ramp and coast into the upper floor.
Shy Guy Falls
Shortcut 1: Alternate left and right to hit as many boost pads as you can while you’re in the rapids area.
Shortcut 2: Directly following the big blue ramp into the canyon, if you have enough speed and hit your stunt boost, veer left and aim upward to nestle into the upper cave area.
A lot of small time savers start to pop up all over the place in Star Cup. For Mount Wario you won’t get any second chances as it’s a downhill race.
Sunshine Airport
Shortcut 1: Hit the orange ramp at the start and you can leap right into the plane.
Shortcut 2: Hit the bumpers for a quick boost while you’re in low-grav mode.
Shortcut 3: Hop over the luggage belt at the end of the course for a quick shortcut.
Dolphin Shoals
Shortcut 1: Taking the right path will lead you into a cave with a boost pad.
Shortcut 2: With a boost item, you can get across this rough ground and charge right into the finish line.
Electrodome
Shortcut 1: In an almost mirror image of the first course, you can boost through the last corner before the finish line.
Mount Wario
Shortcut 1: This inconspicuous glacier before the first checkpoint is actually a ramp.
Shortcut 2: In the outdoor area where the track splits, you can actually head to the center, where a hidden ramp lies. Make sure you bring a boost item to get to it, as the snow will slow you down.
The going gets very tough in this complex cup, but consistently hitting each shortcut will ensure that you’re placing higher as you learn each track.
Cloudtop Cruise
Shortcut 1: After the first turn, veer left and into a giant bumper for a shortcut. Don’t forget to stunt boost.
Shortcut 2: You can see the finish line for this shortcut. Just hop onto the leaves.

Press Select + Start to skip the credits to the congratulations screen.
Quick startDuring the initial countdown, hold down the gas (A) about a half of a second to a second after the number "2" appears to get a large boost when the race starts. You may have to practice to get the correct timing.
Extra boost while drivingPress R to hop while turning or when making a turn. While you are sliding, or immediately beforehand, keep pressing Left then Right (or vice versa) to acquire a blue flame behind your kart. Release it to get a slight boost. If you keep pressing Left then Right (or vice versa) some more while you have the blue flame, you will get a red/orange flame for an even better boost. You may or may not notice the blue flame when getting the red/orange flame.
DraftingIf you are in second place or worse, follow the opponent ahead of you very closely. You will see lines on the sides of your kart. Follow close for long enough, and a large air wave will appear in front of you. This will increase your car's top speed momentarily and allow you to push aside other karts, even if you are light. When the wave disappears, your speed will return to normal.
SnakingSnaking is the art of getting boosts on straightaways by turbo sliding. First, get to one side of the track. Then, turbo slide to the other side of the track. Before you reach the other side of the track, begin holding the opposite direction. For example, if you were turbo sliding to the right, hold Left. Once you are turbo sliding roughly in a straight line, begin tapping Left and Right until gold sparks begin shooting from your tires. Then, stop turbo sliding. If done correctly, you will get a quick boost. You must be able to do all of this very quickly, or you will reach the end of the straightaway before you get the boost. Also, make sure you stop turbo sliding when the gold sparks shoot from your tires, and not blue ones.
Higher jumpTo jump higher when you are going over a jump, press R. This requires some practice and precise timing.
Save time with sandy pitsOn any sandy pit on a curve that would normally slow you down, use a mushroom to cross over it.
Inflate balloons fasterInstead of holding Select, blow into the microphone. If you stop or go very slow in balloon battle, you can blow up your kart's balloons; however there is a limit on the top right. If you hold Select it will fill your balloon, but if you blow into the mic it works better. If you whistle into the mic it works even better.
When playing in Balloon Battle mode, on the top screen you may see four yellow balloons in the top right corner. Everyone starts out with one balloon on their Mario Kart. After the "3, 2, 1, Start!" countdown ends, instead of going towards the mystery boxes, stay in place and hold Select to fill up a balloon. Note: You may only have up to three balloons at a time on your kart.
Stealing balloonsWhen playing in Balloon Battle mode, you can steal balloons from another kart by getting a Speed-Up Mushroom from a mystery box and ramming another player. Note: You may only have up to three balloons at a time on your kart.
Throw a banana peel forwardWhile throwing a banana peel, press Up.
Holding items behind youWhile having a throwable item in your inventory, hold L or X to hold any throwable item behind you. This can protect you from oncoming opponent attacks from items that hit you from behind, such as red and green shells. You are also able to store another item in your inventory while holding your throwable item behind you.
Placing trapsAlways use your items strategically. Use them to block others and place them where players do not have enough time to react, such as in a turn or at the bottom of a hill.
Using the "?" boxes correctlyUse the following trick to help your chance of winning in almost all modes of play. When getting a "?" box, wait until you see another item box before planting it. If timed correctly, the "?" box that was laid down will be directly on top of where the original one was. If anyone tries to get it, they will not be able to tell it is a fake until they hit it.
Lighting boltOn the DK Jungle Parkway, Royal Raceway, or Wario Stadium courses, use a lightning bolt just before someone reaches the jump. They should fall off the jump, costing them time. Do not use it when they are on the turbo pads because it will not affect them.
Dodging turtle shellsTo dodge red and green turtle shells, drop another item trap behind you just as it is about to hit you. To dodge blue turtle shells, turbo boost just before it lands. It will hover and spin above your head; this is when you boost. It is difficult to do, but works.
Use the following trick to dodge blue shells. Occasionally, look at the small bottom boxes with the character and their item on it. When you see a blue shell, pull back very quickly before they shoot it and let the person in second go to first; move away so you do not get hit by the explosion. This may take practice, but it is very useful.
Character effectsCharacters only affect weight. You can get a good idea of how much weight they add by their appearance. For example, Bowser is heavy while Dry Bones is light.
Recommended player and kart combinationUse R.O.B. and R.O.B. LGS. The heavy weight will help knock people off the track while their high speed will help you get past your opponents and gain the lead.
Upside down trackIn Time Trials mode, choose any character and car, then select the Rainbow Road track. When you get to the part that is only boosts, crash into a wall and jump. It will appear as if the stage has flipped upside down. Note: If you jump on the first area filled with boosts, sometimes you will just fly off into space and the stage will not flip temporarily.
Shortcut in Bowser's CastleWhen you get to the rotating floor, go around it all the way until you see the small entrance.
Shortcuts in Delfino SquareNear the halfway point of the course, use a mushroom to cross the water and land on a dock. This is not easy, but saves a lot of time. Additionally, after the track is on again after it splits, go over the bridge and follow the course as usual. Slightly before you make the right turn to go across the bridge, make a right turn to go in an alleyway and cut the corner and be ahead on the track slightly. It is recommended that this be done with mushrooms or some other speed boost item.
Shortcuts in Mario CircuitIn Mario Circuit 1, get two mushrooms. On the third turn there are two pipes. Use the mushrooms in the dirt part to save approximately five seconds. The second shortcut is in Desert Hills. In the part with the big "pyramid", there is a small gap. Use a mushrom to go through a good shortcut.
Shortcut in Sky GardenWhen you get to the second green bridge, look to the left to see a cloud that goes across to the other track. Hop over it to get to it, then hop back off to avoid falling off. Note: This may require some practice.
Shortcut in Waluigi PinballAfter you shoot up the slot at the beginning of the race, get a mushroom and wait until you see the first ramp on the track. When you are coming toward it, use the mushroom to ramp off and go over your opponents on the track. This can help you to get ahead a few places.
Shortcut in Wario StadiumThis course is one of the longest in the game, but it has a shortcut that can cut a lot of time off your lap. It is possible to jump over the wall to the left of the starting line by using any one of the four small jumps there. Although you can make it over the wall without the assistance of any speed boosting item, a Mushroom or Mini-Turbo assist is helpful. Approach the wall at a high speed so that you are driving directly at it as you reach the peak of the small hill. Jump right before you hit the wall and you will fly over it. The timing requires some practice, but once you master it, it is not too difficult. It is also possible to jump back over the wall on the other side of the starting line, but the return jump is much more difficult and requires precise jump timing and aim.
Shortcuts in Yoshi's CircuitJust after the first two turns, go straight and you will see a gap in the wall. Hop over it to get ahead. Additionally, drive forward until you see the two cloud signs that read "Nintendo" in red. Right after you pass the second sign, you should see a hole in the wall. You may need to use a Mushroom or any other speed items to get across.
Shortcut in Yoshi's ValleysThis course is a tangle, as shown in the introductory map. However, there are a few shortcuts that will help you defeat just about anybody. Follow the course until you reach the maze part. Immediately go left and keep towards the left. The first shortcut is to stay left on the narrow part of the course. After doing that, you will hit a little checkered ledge, and see a large red and white sign on the left pointing to the right. This is the difficult part. Accelerate as fast as possible and stay to the far right. As soon as the rail on the left side ends, pull a hard left powerslide off the road. You will continue the powerslide onto the upcoming road after you land, and if done correctly, you will have shaved off at least ten seconds. This requires a lot of practice.

10 Mario Kart Shortcuts That Will Make You Look Like A Pro
Mario Kart fans know just how much fun it can be taking shortcuts during races. It's even more rewarding when they are a little challenging to pull off successfully. Some shortcuts are easily missed, and players can go for long periods of time without even knowing they exist.
RELATED: Every Sport Mario Has Played, Ranked By Number Of Times Played
Some shortcuts require items in the game to complete, and others take practice before they can be done reliably. Many feel like an accomplishment just discovering them and completing them successfully. The most satisfying of them all are the ones that also happen to help players skip a good portion of the race too.
10 Jump Off The Side Of The Course And Land Onto The Track Far Below In Mario Kart 64's Rainbow Road
The version of Rainbow Road in Nintendo 64'sMario Kart 64 is a popular fan favorite. Near the start of the course, when players begin to descend down a slope, they are actually able to jump off the side of the course using a hop at the right moment.
When done with correct timing to the left side of the track, players will fall off into the abyss. Where usually this would just cause them to get put back on course where they fell off, players instead see a stretch of the track below their character, and they can fall all the way down there. If they manage to land on the track, they can keep racing from that point.
9 Use A Mushroom To Boost Across A Large Body Of Water In Mario Kart Super Circuit's Lakeside Park
There are a few examples of shortcuts that are designed for bypassing large bodies of water, but few as impressive as Mario Kart Super Circuit's Lakeside Park. Players can manage this feat by using a mushroom to boost across a lake that was clearly not designed to be crossed under normal circumstances.
If the timing is right, players can bypass an entire section of the track, blasting right over a good stretch of the lake. Pulling this off successfully feels satisfying, as players get to do something highly unusual for Mario Kart games in general.
8 Take Two Shortcuts In A Row In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Ice Ice Outpost
Ice Ice Outpost in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a winding course. Its two paths frequently intersect and swap sides with each other. About halfway through the track, a particular turn has a small ramp off to the side. It's rather easy to miss, and a bit difficult to line up with since it's on the inside of a curve.
RELATED: Top 10 Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Tracks
Players that reach the ramp get to jump twice and land back on the track, bypassing the turn for a quicker time. If players continue to drive their kart straight off the edge on the other side after landing, there is a second part to the shortcut.
7 Boost Off The Harbor's Edge And Fly Over The Water To Reach The Docks In Delfino Square From Mario Kart DS
Delfino Square is a course that debuted in Mario Kart DS and later returned for Mario Kart Wii. There's a shortcut where players boost off the edge of the pier, fly over the water, and land on the docks on the far side. This allows them to bypass a bridge and skip a curve in the course.
It's a bit deceptive because it requires players to drive off in a direction of the course where they normally would not travel. The natural direction of the track leads them to the curve instead of to the ledge. It makes discovering this secret shortcut that much more interesting and satisfying.
6 Bypass The Fork In The Road Using A Mushroom On Mario Kart 8's Mount Wario
Sometimes shortcuts are well-hidden from view, and it takes stumbling upon them to even know they are there. Playing online with others is often a good way to find out other paths to take. Players may recall seeing other racers gliding through the air in the forest section of Mount Wario in Mario Kart 8, and wondering how to do that.
At the part of the track where the forest path splits, careful observers will notice there is a third path in the snow between the two forks. When players use a mushroom to boost through the middle, they can reach the glide ramp and glide right over the forest area.
5 Get An Extra Boost In Super Mario Kart Using Out-Of-Bounds Jump Pads In Courses Like Mario Circuit 2
Super Mario Kart paved the way for features that would become a staple in the series. One of those was boost pads and ramps that would allow players to pass over certain parts of a track. Near the end of the Mario Circuit 2 course, there is a boost that leads to a ramp that does exactly that.
RELATED: Mario: The Best (& Most Frustrating) Thing About Each Major Female Character
Observant players may notice there is a second ramp inside of the out-of-bounds area off to the left side. If players can manage to land their boost jump on the second ramp, they will get a second boost jump, launching their character even further for a satisfying shortcut.
4 Skip The Twists And Turns in Mario Kart 8's Rainbow Road By Driving Straight Off The Track
The version of Rainbow Road that appears in Mario Kart 8 is full of sharp corners and other twists and turns. For most of the track, there are no edge guards, meaning players can easily fly off the track. In many cases, this would cause setbacks during the race.
The track eventually splits into two sections. If players take the right path, they will find anti-gravity bumpers that provide speed boosts. If players drive straight off the edge of the track after a specific bumper, they can actually land safely on the other track below, skipping corners and driving a relatively straight path to the finish line.
3 Use A Mushroom To Bounce Between Entire Sections Of The Course In Mario Kart Super Circuit's Rainbow Road
The Rainbow Road course in Mario Kart Super Circuit is interesting. It has a specific feature not often seen, where instead of a guard rail or just falling into the abyss, most of the course actually has jump ramps along its edges. It is this feature that allows for some fantastic shortcuts.
Not only is it possible to sometimes navigate back onto the course and salvage a sticky situation during the race, but if players make timely use of a mushroom item, they can actually jump between gaps in the course and skip significant portions of the track.
2 Soar Over An Entire Section Of The Course In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Big Blue
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe includes the F-Zero-inspired Big Blue track, which was DLC from the original Mario Kart 8. There is a particular turn during this course, where due to its downhill nature, players can boost off the side of the track rather than follow its course. Players can skip an entire corner of the race by landing on the track further below.
Better yet, in the ultra-fast 200cc mode, it's actually possible to land even further down in the course from the same jump. It's more challenging, but the feeling is much more satisfying for players who successfully jump the entire length. It is a huge time-saving shortcut that feels great to pull off.
1 Hop Over The Wall In Mario Kart 64's Wario Stadium And Skip Half The Track
One of Mario Kart 64's best shortcuts is also one of the simplest, at least in theory. It takes some practice to pull off successfully, but once players have it down, it will be hard to resist trying. The course in question is Wario Stadium, and all players have to do is hop at the right spot and angle.
With enough momentum, if players turn and try to hop over the left-side wall from the top of the small hills at the start of the course, they can actually make the jump. It cuts out almost half of the course, and players successfully land on the other side to continue racing.

Ds mario kart shortcuts
Misleading Short-cut At Bowser Castle
At bowser castle after you get past this thing that kind of rotates and you take a turn or two you will see a split. The sign points left. Since the sign points left, you'll think going right is a shortcut. It isn't. If you go right you will end up right back at the rotating thing. even if you are in first you will almost always end-up in last.
Shortcut on Cheep Cheep Beach
If the water is out after the 2nd ramp, drive on the seabed for a quick shortcut. You could also drive straight through the water if you have a mushroom.
Spinning Gears
Tick-Tock Clock
After you pass the clock-weight swinging back and forth, you will pass under the center clock. There will be four spinning gears under it. Drive in the direction they are spinning and it will give you sort of a short speed boost. You may need to turn a little so you wont hit the pillars in the middle of each gear.
Avoiding Boo
Any course
To avoid boo when you have an item, simply just HOLD down the "L" button so your item is behind you. Then when Boo comes, he wont be able to get anything. To find out if he's coming, look at the bottom screen. NOTE:this will not work with stars, mushrooms, bullet bills, and king/queen mushrooms.
Balloon Battle Sniper
This works best in balloon battle. In levels Pipe plaza and twilight house, there are places where you are pretty much guaranteed to hit the other characters.
Pipe Plaza:
When you come out of a pipe and have a box or banana, lay it as soon as you hit the ground. Anyone who goes through the pipe will get hurt. Also, Face the pipe but don't go in. Hold a shell or something. watch the bottom screen and wait until someone goes in the right pipe. Then let the shell go. The character should get hit. You will have to time it right.
Twilight House
On the outside of the house there are for corners with ? boxes on them. Go to the corner and sit where the box is just facing the corner of the house. If you get a banana or box, throw it forward. If you have a shell, wait for someone to come along, and let the shell go. If you time it right, you should hit them. Since you're always sitting where the box is, your stock of supplies will never run out. If you get a bomb, move back to the edge. Wait for someone to come and throw the bomb forward. You should hit them.
Mario Circuit - Goomba Mushroom
On Mario Circuit, there are three goombas after going through the first turn. If you shoot one of them with a shell or you hit them while using a star, a mushroom will pop out. Note: This mushroom gives an instant boost, it is not the item mushroom.
Backwards Bananza(or forwards)
When you get a blue shell or a red shell as a weapon, you can hit the down key on your control pad and it will go backwards. If you get a banana peel or a fake ? mark block, you can hit this top one and it will go forwards.
Shortcut : Bowser Castle
Gamestop
After going through a long hall, you'll confront a rotating platform.Keep going on it,pass the exit, you'll see a blast of fire. Behind is a short hall that cuts to an upward pillar.(if your'e on that the shortcut is over.)
Special Item Box
In DK Pass, go over the second hill in the map and you will see an item box. It will contain a mushroom, triple mushrooms, or a star, even if you're in first place.
Ink Be Gone
When you get inked and you can't see, look for the nearest speed boost or get a mushroom. Go on the speed boost (or use the mushroom) and the ink will fly off.
Note: The power slide turbo boosts will not work.
Using Mushrooms
On battle mode, balloon battle, it is dumb to waste up your extra balloons. You will need a golden mushroom, a triple mushroom, or a single mushroom for this. Go up to somebody and use the mushroom to bump into them. Once you bump into them with the mushroom, you steal one of their balloons. You must have good aim.
Emblems
Go to options, then go to edit. You will see paint. Then you can make designs.
special box
In DK Pass, follow up the road. After a couple turns, you will see a big hill with snow on it. Look at your map screen you should see a box - the box is a star or 3 mushrooms, even when you're in first place.
Clockworks Shortcut
When you are next to the gears that move at the end, go up the spinning wheel. This saves you time so you don't go up the hill, and if you have a mushroom you can fly for a short period of time.
Secret Mushroom in Delfino Square
Before the bridge with all those dash panels on it there will be a turn near a long shelf with all the fake fruit on it. There will be a wooden box. Run through the box and a mushroom will fly out.
Battle Parm Island
In the middle of the Battle Arena
The island in the battle arena is a perfect place for letting a bomb explode. Wait there until you get a bomb. When they all come, leave the bomb there and get out of the blast radius.
Get Two Different Weapons
In Mario Kart, you drive through those diamonds to get items. When you press the L button, it fires off your item. If your item isn't a power up and it is a single weapon like shells or bananas, you can press and hold L to put the weapon on the back of your car. You are now able to pickup another.
Hint: You can only do this with two weapons, and this doesn't work with power ups such as mushrooms, lighting strikes, stars, and bullet bills.
Tip for Shortcut in Delfino Square 2
The Shortcut in Delfino Square 2 (listed as another cheat on this page) will not work unless you have a mushroom. The brown sludge will slow you down, making it just as long as going the long way around.
Player Colors
multiplayer battles or races
If you have 8 players all wanting a specific color (e.g player 5 light blue) have everyone join at different times. Here's a chart for when each player should come in.
--------------------
player 1 blue
player 2 yellow
player 3 red
player 4 dark purple
player 5 light blue
player 6 orange
player 7 purple
player 8 green
Shortcut in Mushroom Bridge
After you pass the finish line on Mushroom Bridge, keep to the right and as soon as you see a really big grassy hill keep a close eye out for a path way, it should take you 2-4 seconds ahead of everyone else.
Faster way through Tick-Tock Clock
When you get the circular area were there are turbo pads and two arms, go to the right it is fatser. At the end of the course with the two gears, you can drive on them, it's like a turbo. On the first lap the left gear is the one to go on, the second lap you must go on the right one, and the third lap you need to go on the left one.
Magic Turbo
This is easy! Stay for a while behind an other racer (3-4 seconds) and then go by on your way and you will go faster for a while. Like drafting in other racing games.
Avoiding Red and Blue Shells
If you have a shell of any color or a banana, you can be protected from red shells. Just hold down the item button and the shell or banana will stay behind your cart. Whenever a red shell comes it will hit the banana instead of you. If you are going around a sharp corner, just go really close to it and sometimes the shell will hit the wall. To avoid blue shell just simply drop a bomb right when it is behind you.
Jump Higher
When you hit a jump press A to make you go higher.
Turbo Boost on Drift
In any race
When you start a drift you will see clouds of dust coming from your wheels. While drifting push the directional buttons repeatedly (eg. left right left right) and you will see blue sparks appear. Keep on doing this untill red sparks appear then let go of the drift/hop button and you will get a boost.
Slight Speed Boost
Hilly places
When you have a hill with a steep drop press jump (R) and if you're going at top speed you'll do a big jump.
Boost Start
Start holding A when the 2 starts to disappear for a boost start.
Secret Item Box
On the level DK Pass you can get a secret item box. Right before you go on the land of snow, there is a hill that you can go on. Go up the hill and grab the item box. This item box always has something good in it, even when you are in 1st place.
Booby Trap
Go to balloon battle and go to pipe plaza. Once there, get either an item box or a banana. Keep it behind you by holding down L. Now go into a pipe. You will pop out the other end. As soon as you hit the ground, release the L button. The item should be behind you. Now, whenever someone goes through that pipe, they will get hit. Works every time if you do it right.
Destroying Blue Shells
Drop a bomb behind your cart while a blue shell is coming. The bomb will destroy the blue shell. Warning: DON'T USE THE BOMB WHEN THE BLUE SHELL IS CLOSE BY!

Shortcut in Yoshi's Valleys
This course is a tangle, as shown in the introductory map.
Drift
This will tell you how to drift if you dont know how to do it. First you jump then press a and hold both r and a. Then you will press the arrow keys alot in any direction and then you will see blue sparks and then red sparks. On the red sparks you let go and it will give you a boost.
Shortcut in Wario Stadium
This course is one of the longest in the game, but it has a shortcut that can cut a lot of time off your lap.
Shortcut in Bowser's Castle
When you get to the rotating floor, go around it all the way until you see the small entrance.
Using "?" Boxes
When you get a "?" box, wait until you see another item box before planting it. If timed correctly, the "?" box that was laid down will be directly on top of where the original one was. If anyone tries to get it, they will not be able to tell it is a fake until they hit it.
Lighting Bolt
On the DK Jungle Parkway, Royal Raceway, or Wario Stadium courses, use a lightning bolt right before someone hits the jump. They should fall off the jump, which will slow them way down. Do not use a lightning bolt when someone is on the turbo pads as it will not affect them.
Shortcut in Yoshi's Circuit
Just after the first two turns, go straight and you will see a gap in the wall. Hop over it to get ahead.
Shortcut in Sky Garden
When you get to the second green bridge, look to the left to see a cloud that goes across to the other track. Hop over it to get to it, then hop back off to avoid falling off. Note: This may require some practice.
Shortcut 2 in Delphino Square
After getting off the bridge and taking a left off of it, you will notice 2 boxes beside each other unlike others spread apart. right behind it is an alley that will cut distance from the track.
Shortcut in Delfino Square
Near the halfway point of the course, use a mushroom to cross the water and land on a dock. This is not easy, but saves a lot of time.
Quick Start
During the countdown, hold down the gas (A) about a half of a second to a second after the number "2" to get a boost when the race starts. Practice to get the right timing.
Skip Credits
Press Select + Start to skip the credits.
Sand Pits
Use a mushroom to cross over sand pits that would otherwise slow you down.

This is a list of glitches in the game Mario Kart DS.
Glitches
NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all names are conjectural.
Delfino Square Boardwalk Glitch
When the player goes up to the boardwalk that has the one Item Box, they must press when they are on the wall. If timed correctly, the player can float on the side of the road. This will work in any mode.
Dropping off the Track Without stopping out of Bounds
In Cheep Cheep Beach, at the double-stone arch, the player must be touching the stone arch while holding right on the until the player drops. If done, the player will be in the "Out of bounds" zone but not stopping out of bounds. The glitch will end if the player presses
or
, or if the player stops touching the wall. Lakitu will return the player to the track as normal.
Go through an Invisible Barrier
In GCN Luigi Circuit, the player needs to turn around when the race starts and use a Mushroom on the corner of the bump and hop. If it was done correctly, the player will go through the invisible barrier and fall through the hills and the character will not make a sound. The screen will just blackout and Lakitu will bring the player to the track.
This can also be done in Bowser Castle, by going past the room with the Thwomps and then the player should see two "hills" with a spike fence. The player needs to go to the first "hill" and use a Mushroom and hop. The player will fly past the fence and go through the bar and fall into the lava. These glitches are best done with light karts such as the Egg 1.
Goomboss Jumping Glitch
This glitch is difficult to perform and sporadically occurs. When playing mission 3-Boss, if the player can manage to hop into Goomboss as he is right near the edge of the median, Goomboss will jump over it as he does on the final lap. The player must do this while Goomboss is close to one of the turns though. This glitch can either help or hinder the player depending on where it occurs.
High Flying in Rainbow Road
In Rainbow Road, when getting to a loop, the racer should hit the fence and push while holding down on the
. After a little while, the player will start to fly away and Lakitu will pick the player up and put him or her on the beginning of the loop. This works best on the corkscrew.
Luigi's Mansion Freeze Glitch
To perform this glitch, the player must pick the Luigi's Mansion course in any mode with any character and kart. Once the race starts, the player must then park their character on the stairs at the entrance of the mansion. After that, hold down both and
to drift in place. If the player tries to turn, the game will sometimes freeze. This glitch was fixed on the Wii U Virtual Console release.[1] This freeze glitch can also happen on multiplayer mode. If one player does the glitch and if the other player is not at the scene, they'll be granted with a communication error.[2] However, if the other player is there to watch the glitch happen, both players' games will freeze.[3]
Waluigi has No Voice
In Battle mode, if the player is Waluigi, for unknown reasons, his voice will occasionally disappear. This will last until the player quits Battle mode.[citation needed]
Permanent Rocket Boost
After the player gets a perfect Rocket Start, the player should start snaking. If done correctly, the player could drive like they are using a Mushroom as soon as they are snaking, so they will be able to go off-road without losing speed. As soon as the player does not have a turbo anymore from the start, the glitch ends. The glitch is very useful to do great Time Trial records.
GCN Pipe Plaza Pipe Glitch
While going into a pipe at the same time as someone else, the player will end up far away from the area falling in the background.
Rainbow Road Double Glitch Shortcut
To perform these glitches, the player must choose Rainbow Road in Time Trial mode. First, the player has to start heading around the spiral road. When the player reaches the part of the spiral road that has the track heading towards the loop right above it, the player must turn around, sharply drift, and jump extremely close to the edge of the road in a corner that allows that player to jump high enough onto the section of the track right before the loop. Then the player should continue on until they reach another curve. That player should go through all five rings before the loop, turn around, and then use a Mushroom and jump off the edge to the left of the rainbow pipe that can be seen by the curvy section of the track, while holding . If done correctly, Lakitu should drop the player by the corkscrew, and the lap shall count. [4]
Note: This shortcut is very difficult and sometimes when the player jumps correctly during the first part, that player may not get the lap count for unknown reasons.
Star Music Glitch
When the player quits or restarts any level or course, they will have a second of control before the screen fades to black. Usually, the music does not play while this happens. However, if the player during this short period picks up a dropped Star on the course or uses a Star, then the Star music will play, even though there should be no music. The Star music will cut out once the game is bought back to a menu, or the level has restarted.
Wario Stadium Wall Glitch
This glitch is very hard to perform and occurs rarely. On the first set of multiple bumps near the end, the player needs to boost over the bumps and head to the right (left in mirror mode). If done correctly, the player will fly on the top of the wall's corner and fall through it, before being picked up by Lakitu back to the normal track.
Wrong Starting Place

This glitch is only noticeable in Versus mode. If the player chooses Bowser Castle at first, or if the player finishes 8th in the race prior to Bowser Castle, the upper screen will show during the start of the race that the player's character is in 7th place, although clearly the character is behind the racer in 7th place. This glitch wasn't fixed in the Wii U Virtual Console release.
GCN Yoshi Circuit Lap Skipping Glitch
Any character can be used to perform this glitch. On GCN Yoshi Circuit, the player must go to the end of the first fence at the start of the course, then hit the end of the fence diagonally, and falling into the water. If the glitch has been performed correctly, then the character will be a few paces behind the finish line and when the player drives the wrong way around the track Lakitu should not be present, and the place counter should still be the same as when the player fell into the water. After the Yoshi nose section, the player can turn around and when they cross the finish line it will count as a lap.[5]
Battle Opponent Freeze Glitch
In battle mode, if a CPU hits an item under a bridge in N64 Block Fort, the CPU may get stuck under the bridge. Eventually, the CPU will sometimes recover unless the CPU is defeated.[citation needed]
CPUs Cannot Use Items Glitch
If a CPU is deploying an item, and a player or item hits their deployed item, then the CPU picks up an Item Box, the roulette will not stop fast, and if they get a deployable item, they will not do anything with it until they get hit by an item or obstacle. If they get an item like a Mushroom or triple shells, they will use the item, however. This is most noticeable in Battle mode with the CPUs set to hard.
Spiny Shell's Bad Day Glitch
In Waluigi Pinball, if someone uses a Spiny Shell in the area with the bumpers and pinballs, it may fly around the edges for a few seconds for unknown reasons before chasing after the leader.[citation needed]
Fall through the scenery
This glitch can be done in the Shine Runners mode. If the player wins while still under the effects of a Lightning, the character will fall through the scenery during the winning animation. Lakitu will pick up the character after falling.

Mario Kart DS Shortcuts
The game Mario Kart DS has many shortcuts hidden throughout the tracks.
MUSHROOM CUP
The Mushroom Cup does not contain any official shortcuts, but (especially in Cheep Cheep Beach and Luigi's Mansion) there are plenty effective corner cuts that can be used with the aid of mushrooms. In Cheep Cheep Beach, you can blast through the deep water with crabs in it before the jungle section with a mushroom and cut off a lot of time. This can be used as a part of a comeback if you're trailing by a lot. In Luigi's Mansion, there are less effective corner cuts, but there are more of them. So if you have triple mushrooms, you can blast straight ahead through the graveyard section without having to turn at all. In Yoshi Falls, there is no shortcuts, but there are three different forks which you can choose to drive over a bridge or drive through water, and you could get an Item depending on which way you Choose
