Palma Toscano Rossi

April 13, 1924 –
October 5, 2021

Palma Jean Toscano Rossi, 97, of Apopka, Florida, before Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, passed away of natural causes at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 5, 2021.
Born on April 13, 1924 in Sharpsville to Italian immigrant parents Pietro and Domenica Morabito Toscano (Reggio Calabria Italy); she was very proud of her Italian heritage.
Palma graduated from Sharpsville High School in 1942 and met Anthony “Tony” Rossi Jr. from Farrell, Pennsylvania. They enjoyed going to the Buhl Park Casino dances until Tony left in 1943 to serve in the military during World War II. After four years of dating, they were married on May 25, 1946 and treasured the next 71 years together in marriage.
Palma worked at Westinghouse Electric in Sharon during World War II. While raising her family, she appreciated the roles of wife and mother, making the Rossi home warm, welcoming, and the original “happiest place in the world.” She loved to sew, host family parties, volunteer as a school mom, and host fundraisers for card parties at Kennedy Christian High School and St. Bartholomew’s Church.
After her children grew up, Palma worked various jobs, including catering, wedding salons, the Treasure Island department store, and Reyers Shoes in Sharon, Pennsylvania.
Palma loved Shenango Valley and especially Sharpsville, where he lived for 60 years before moving to Central Florida in 1984. Mr. and Mrs. Rossi enjoyed an active retirement life in the Altamonte Springs, Florida community. Together, they lived through Palma’s favorite phrase “flourish where you are planted” as they certainly flourished in Florida. They became part of a large circle of friends, joining bowling teams, card clubs, travel groups, and the VFW (Tony was a founding member of VFW Post 10147 in Apopka). They worked as teacher aides in nearby elementary schools and taught the sport of pétanque to school children and Special Olympians.
In 1988, Palma turned a temporary assignment into a 10-year job managing the Central Florida home of professional golfer Gary Player in Alaqua. In 2000, Palma and Tony convinced the city of Altamonte Springs to build bocce courts in the city park and later organized the city’s first bocce league. As a lasting legacy in 2009, the city honored the couple with a permanent plaque in Westmonte Park commemorating their efforts and naming Tony Rossi the “Mr. Bocce” of Altamonte Springs. In 2020, the city doubled the number of bocce courts, where leagues continue to flourish. The couple competed in Bocce leagues together until they were 90 years old.
Palma loved to play bingo and tell stories from her childhood in Sharpsville. When the public bingo games were canceled, family and friends from various states “zoomed in” on the virtual games of Palma’s “Italian bingo”, which were two-thirds of laughs and entertaining stories and one-third of real bingo. Palma will be remembered forever as a woman of love, wisdom, faith and ingenuity. After all, and as she used to remind everyone, she was from the Greatest Generation.
Palma was preceded in death by her husband, Tony; his brothers Anne Stacconi, Josephine Benetto, Joseph Toscano and Katherine Toscano; and his grandson John Ryan Rossi.
He is survived by his sister, Nancy (Toscano) Liptak (Eustis, Florida), his four children, Marilyn Rossi (Apopka, Florida), Anthony “Tony” Rossi III, and his wife, Debi (Hull) Rossi (Mt. Dora, Fla. ), Anita (Rossi) Killen (Apopka, Fla.), And David Rossi and his wife, Sherry (Rowles) Rossi (Chicago, Ill.); her grandchildren, Sara (Rossi) Statis and her husband Steve Statis (Chicago, Ill.), and Jerry Killen, (Orlando, Fla.); his great-grandchildren, Gianni Vincent Rossi (New Jersey) and Henry Ryan Statis (Chicago, Ill.); and many nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own children.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm (10/20/2021) at Baldwin-Fairchild, 90 Weathersfield Ave., Altamonte Springs, FL 32714. Funeral Mass will be at 10 am Thursday (10/21/2021) at St Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 526 N. Park Ave., Winter Park, FL. The mass can also be viewed live at https://stmargaretmary.org/funeral-mass-livestream/. A private burial service is scheduled at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, at 2 pm (10/21/2021).
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial fund (https://GoFundMe.com/f/In-Memory-of-Palma) to support Elizabeth Ministry at St. Margaret Mary Parish in Winter Park, FL. Elizabeth’s Ministry helps mothers seeking help to meet the needs of their children. Palma was always helping others and was like a second mother to many. It seems appropriate to continue your generosity and support to others on behalf of Palma and in memory of a very special mother.
His family can be reached at 2525 Walnut Heights Road, Apopka FL 32703. The Rossi family appreciates your kindness and support.

  • Uncover the branches of your family tree.
  • Connect with extended family members.
  • Discover the stories of your ancestors.

Explore the comprehensive records in our online database, and you'll gain access to almost 150 years of local history.

Plus, 95% of GenealogBank records cannot be found through any other online services.

How to Search Herald Obituary Archives

Looking up Herald obituaries in Pennsylvania doesn't have to be difficult. Whether you're trying to understand where you come from for the first time or you're looking to add some detail to a family tree, it couldn't be easier to perform a Herald obituary search.

All you have to do to get started is enter the last name of a chosen relative and press the “Search” button. It’s an excellent launching point for further research into those elusive relatives.

You can also get some additional guidance by downloading the free “Tips for Searching Titles” guide.

If you’re trying to get more information on a specific relative, follow these steps to perform an advanced search of the Herald obituary archives.

  • Step One – Begin by entering the first and last names of your relative. You’ll get more accurate results if you also have a middle name. Our search results will present you with close match obituaries.
  • Step Two – Add a keyword, such as a school or a town, to narrow your search results .
  • Step Three – Exclude keywords to avoid uncovering obituaries unrelated to your family tree.
  • Step Four -Include a year range. With almost 150 years of history, the chances are your ancestors share the same name as someone else’s ancestor.
  • Step Five - Get different results by changing the sorting options. You can order your results by showing the best matches, newest entries, and oldest entries.

Tips for a Successful Herald Obituary Search

Genealogy research can be challenging as many records are incomplete or filled with mistakes. For a successful Herald obituary search, it’s good to have multiple strategies at your disposal to ensure you get the correct relative.

Most older obituaries will include some pieces of family information. Obituaries can be used to uncover information about other relatives or to confirm that you have the right person in Sharon, Pennsylvania.

For a successful search of Herald obituaries, follow these tips:

  • Use information from more recent ancestors to find older relatives.
  • Try searching by initials. Many old Herald obits used initials instead of full names.
  • Are you looking for a female relative? Try searching for their husband’s name.
  • Perform searches by using common misspellings. TITLE editors often didn’t fact-check spellings in the past.

By implementing these strategies, you can go deeper with your research and uncover the ancestors you never knew you had. It’s also ideal for fact-checking, as many obituaries weren’t necessarily created with 100% accuracy.

How to Find Pennsylvania Death Notices in the Herald

Finding death notices in the Herald can be another vital source of genealogical research. But what’s the difference between a death notice and an obituary?

Although some people use the terms interchangeably, they’re actually two different things. Obituaries describe the person, who they are, and what they did in their lives. Death notices, on the other hand, are formalized reports of someone’s death.

Family members would have published death notices in the Herald to detail the person’s name, age, residence, and any information about the funeral service. As family members typically wrote these, they tend to be relatively accurate.

Death notices can help extract more information about an ancestor and uncover where they happen to be buried. So, how do you look up local death notices and sift through hundreds of years’ worth of history? If you want to find death notices alongside Herald obits, follow these tips:

  • Include Boolean operators and proximity search techniques.
  • Use multiple collections to fact-check any found records.
  • Connect other family members mentioned in the death notice to confirm whole sections of your family tree.

The Herald records are invaluable sources of historical information about local people. We make it easy for you to search, discover, and share your family’s untold story.

Now discussing:

I'll just call her Zhenya, she was somewhere about 22 years old, I liked something in her right away, she had what she needed: a breast of the 1st. Size, a round ass, a cute face, in general, everything was with her. The wedding went with its might and main toasts, dances, everything was right. As for me, all this time I just simply soldered her to fuck later.
