chevy trailblazer remote start issue

Twelvoltz is right that at least one bypass manufacturer has had some tach issues with GM trucks. I've had a run of a few Trailblazers this season already, and on all of them, there's a wire harness that runs horizontally along the bottom of the dashI get parking lights, brake, and tach all there. I did just think of one other thing that could be an issue on the + Trailblazer. 1: When you activate the remote starter, and then the ignition turns on (you'll see the dash warning lights all come on together), does the starter motor crank immediately, or is there a small delay? 2: Leave the windshield wipers in the on position, and activate the remote starter. Do the wipers stay on during remote start? The reason I ask all that is because the Trailblazer has the following under the dash coming from the ignition switch: Two constant power wires Two ignition wires; they show power in the Run and Start positions One accessory wire (orange) that shows power in the Run position only Another accessory wire (brown) that shows power in the Accessory and Run positions A starter (yellow) wire that shows power in the Start position On nearly every GM car on the market, the brown wire can be left unpowered during remote start. I actually prefer it this way, as the brown wire powers up the wipers and sometimes the radio. By leaving it unpowered, the wipers are disabled during remote start, and on some models, the radio stays quiet toono need to wake up the neighbors every morning with the radio. However, on the + Trailblazer, if the brown wire is left unpowered, the starter motor will crank immediately as soon as the ignition circuits (pink and white) come on. This will work well enough if the engine was just runningI'm guessing because it's still warm, still has residual pressure in the fuel lines, et cetera. So basically, if the installer doesn't power the brown wire, the remote starter will start the car super fast, but it'll still work, and the installer will shrug his shoulders and call it done. Inevitably, after the customer has the car at home for a few days or so and it gets cold enough, it often won't work reliably. Sometimes it'll still start on the second try, but not always. So basically, see if the wipers come on during remote start, and if they don't, have the shop power up the brown wire during remote start. P.S. I wouldn't replace your ignition switch. A properly installed remote starter essentially IS a remote-controlled ignition switch. Therefore, even if the ignition switch were bad, the remote starter would still power up all the circuits during its runtimethe car would run perfectly, at least until you do key takeover and press the brake. I've seen these ignition switches go bad where one or more of the circuits isn't powered up until the switch is replaced. I think you can pretty much do your own ignition switch test, without taking the car apart. White ignition 2 wire: Rotate the key just a hair forward from Off; this should make the battery light come on, I'm pretty sure. Brown Accessory wire: This powers the wipers; do they work? Orange Accessory wire: This powers the climate controls, you did say they worked. Pink Ignition 1 wire: Powers fuel/ignition stuff; car wouldn't run without this Yellow starter wire: If you're a tech I'm sure you know, but the engine would never start without this

chevy trailblazer wont turn over or start

On the subject of fuse-blowing troubleshooting, Littelfuse offers a bunch of circuit breaker types for automotives, and the idea first hit me from an EricTheCarGuy video where he mentions using this method. Swap the fuse for a PROPERLY-SIZED breaker, and get to work. Manually-tripping ones I would say are better than auto-closing ones, as it forces your attention to the lack of power. Still cheaper than buying a pack of fuses just to burn them up. Littelfuse offers MINI breakers, they're designed to fit the MINI fuse slot but they're a bit taller than a fuse. It's "MIB X", where X is the amperage needed. Unfortunately offered only in "Type II," modified reset. No manual reset option, but these don't reset until power is removed from the hot side.

If you can remember whether you popped PCM I or PCM B it would be an immense help. I would assume PCM I, as that's a 15A while PCM B is a 20A standard. This fuse provides one of the power circuits to the PCM (though I'm not sure what it feeds internally), and also the injectors and coils. I will report back if I can figure out how PCM I affects other things.

Starter Problems of Chevrolet Trailblazer

1 Starter problem of the Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 07/07/

Traveling at 55 mph on a freeway, engine stopped with no notice. Since the engine stopped, brakes and steering experienced greatly reduced capability. I had to struggle to get the vehicle on to the shoulder in order to avoid an accident. Once stopped, I got no response of any kind from the starter, although I had power to the blower motor, radio, and power windows. After 5 minutes, I was able to get the car started. I turned around to drive home, and 5 minutes later the problem recurred exactly as described above. The vehicle is now in the shop for repair as it is not safe to drive. I presume that I am dealing with a catastrophic ignition system failure of the type that caused gm to issue it's massive recall years ago.

Failure Date: 07/15/

My chevy Trailblazer does not start. There is no specific time, place, or event that leads to the vehicle not starting every couple of weeks the vehicle just doesn’t start. I will let the truck sit for an hour or so then attempt to start it, then it does start. I have taken it to the dealer and they couldn’t duplicate the issue I was having. I did some research online and others have suggested it could be the battery, temperature sensor, ignition switch, or starter. I have replaced all but the starter but the problem persists. I have been told that the starter is good so I am at a loss as to why the problem keeps occurring.

5 Starter problem of the Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/31/

I am the original owner of a chevy Trailblazer. When I first purchased the vehicle in the month of October/, I didn't experience any problems until maybe the fourth year, going on its 5th; right before the warranty was about to expire. The first problem I encountered with the vehicle was the transmission. It didn't want to change gears properly. Because of the 5 year warranty, the dealership was able to fix that problem, at that time. Today, I continue to experience transmission problems: with a loud noise, a struggle in horse power and a vibration when I am at a complete stop. I have spent so much money on other electrical parts as well. I have purchased over ten light bulbs for rear brake lights that continue to malfunction. I recently replaced a relay because the head lights would constantly go out after the vehicle was turned on. I replaced the fan clutch and water pump because they both went out. I also replaced a battery and two starters. For the past few months, my vehicle smells like fuel everytime I turn it on. I am asking that your department look into all of these claims. It appears that almost everyone that owes a Trailblazer has been experiencing the same issues, but yet; no one is doing enough to protect all those consumers who have been grateful to this country in purchasing american made vehicles. A sincere thanks.

Failure Date: 01/16/

The problem is on my Chevrolet Trailblazer. The entire dash gauges malfunction occassionally, from speedometer to battery gauge to oil pressure gauge to water temp gauge to rpm gauge. I am one of thousands of Trailblazer owners who have this problem not only in the USA, but around the world, just read the forum on edmunds. Com and you will see. I usually temporarily fix this problem but turning the vehicle on and off untill the gauges fully reset, but that puts a lot of strain on the starter. Please open an investigation to trigger a recall because chevy dealers want us owners to shell out $ to figure out the problem we already know and then want to gouge us for another $$ to fix. That is totally uncalled for, for a part on the vehicle which is vital to drivers, the instrument gauges.

8 Starter problem of the Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/08/

In I had to have the ignition starter switch because my Trailblazer would not start. This cost 00 plus the tow charge. On may 7th. I had to have the same switch replaced again, now not two weeks later the ignition switch is acting up again. I called general motors and they said there was no recall on my Trailblazer, and I could contact my local Chevrolet dealer and see if they can tell me what I can do. I know what that information will be, bring it in and they will repair it, and that will cost me several hundred dollars. Thanks to general motors.

9 Starter problem of the Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 06/10/

After starting my vehicle sometimes the rpm gauge will not move, like the vehicle has not started, this has caused me to turn the key again causing my starter to make an awful sound, since the car was already running, rpm gauge however was not functioning. My speedometer will start out at 0 like normal but then will stick and go back down to 0 which doesn't allow me to see the speed I am going, at times it will stick around 40 mph. The fuel gauge does not work it always says I am empty. Which brings me to my final point, my odometer has started sticking, I gauge my gas mileage by my odometer, this could be a serious problem since the odometer is sticking, I could be thinking I have enough gas when in reality I do not, this could cause me to run out of gas, not to my own error but due to the malfunctioning gauges, which could cause me to stall and be rear ended. I travel on the interstate almost everyday and I am seriously concerned for my safety and the safety of other drivers.

10 Starter problem of the Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/08/

Chevrolet Trailblazer 76k miles 1. Instrument panel intermittently malfunctions under normal operating conditions, the speedometer will not register correct speed and will move past mph when in park (needle pointing straight down), sounds like a popping or crackling noise from instrument panel at times. I thought this problem was more prone to happen more with very cold or very hot temperature outside but now also happens no matter what the temperature is outside. Only way I have found to get speedometer back to zero is to start engine and turn off engine after minute or so - this process could take starting/re-starting 20 to 30 times to get speedometer back to zero. Bad for starter and consumes too much gasoline to continue doing this. 2. Service engine soon light comes on intermittently under normal operating conditions. All electrical (lights, radio, a/c, etc. ) cut offs and engine cuts off when driving under normal conditions - sometimes this occurs while driving and sometimes occurs when slowing to stop at a traffic light. At times I will smell a burning smell like something electrical is burning. I immediately pull over, turn off the car and check under the hood but cannot see anything burning however I smell it. After the vehicle sits for a few minutes it can be restarted and I do not smell the burning smell. I am a single mom with college/high school children (ages 25, 22, 17) living at home and I have a 7 month old grandchild at home. I am on a very limited budget and do not have money to repair either of these problems as the vehicle is out of warranty. Both of these issues are safety issues. There are tons of complaints regarding chevy Trailblazers on the internet. When will gm be held accountable for manufacturing and selling lemons!?! gm needs to accept responsibility and repair these lemons - the consumer's safety is at stake here.

13 Starter problem of the Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 07/24/

We purchased our Trailblazer ext used this summer. It had about 50, miles on it. We've noticed that when we're on the road for over 2 hours at a time, the speedometer becomes dangerously unreliable. Most recently, my husband was pulled over for an unsafe low speed -- until the state policeman saw that the speedometer was registering 20 miles an hour with the car in park and the engine turned off. We have had multiple failures. Resetting is sometimes possible by continually restarting the car, but not always, and not with any reliability. By continually restarting I'm talking restarts. The wear and tear on the starter therefore is unacceptable. This vehicle should be covered by the recall, but we've not been notified and when we've taken it to dealerships, we haven't even been notified of the recall. The problem has no other discernible pattern and has happened approximately 6 times in the 8 months we've had the car.

- the contact stated that the Chevrolet Trailblazer had stalling problems which started back in March The contact stated that while driving mph the vehicle would lose all power. The contact took vehicle to dealership, and they found nothing wrong with the vehicle. She stated that on 04/06 she had to have vehicle towed to another dealership, the vehicle would not start. The contact stated that they couldn't find anything wrong either. They did replace the starter at that time, but the failure continued to happen, and now the radio has shorted out and caused the vehicle to lose power. The dealership replaced the radio. On 12/23/06, the vehicle lost power again while driving mph and trying to make a right turn. The vehicle was towed to dealership again, they found nothing wrong again. The contact stated that this was a safety issue, especially while driving on the freeway. The contact stated that she filed a complaint with the manufacturer, # The contact stated that someone from their legal department caller her and stated that they will have someone come out and look at her vehicle in mid February.

cheverlot Trailblazer has had an issue since I purchased it in with stalling out. However over the last 4 years I have had an issue of no start. . . Everything has been replaced by the dealer ignition switch, alternator, starter, exhaust, etc. . . . Last result was the pcm powertrain module supposedly the brains of the car. However the same day it stalled again, most recently my dealership took it for a week and said they could not reduplicate issue. So there again I am at the same place where the car will be fine for weeks then do a no start untill after serveral attempts and smell of gas finally the car will start. Chevrelot Trailblazer have known this problem for awhile has done nothing about it . . . Resolve the issue and do a recall spent over $10, on just maintenance. . What is chevy going to do about this issue? ## VIN failed ##.

16 Starter problem of the Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/18/

Went out to start vehicle on September 18, - tuned key and nothing happened, no starter motor, no dashboard lights, nothing. Key remianed locked in steering column, could not be removed. Tried again the next morning (9/19) - same thing. Tried again the next morning (Monday, 9/20). The same thing - at that point called dealer to tow vehicle. About 3 hours later the tow truck came - tow truck operator got in vehicle turned key - and vehicle started right up just as if nothing was ever wrong! . Still had vehicle towed to dealership - dealer checked behicle over and found nothing wrong. On Saturday, October 23rd, came out of bank after running errnad, turned key in vehicle - nothing happened again. Kept turning key off and on for about 10 minutes until vehicle started out of the blue. Drove straight to dealer. Dealer replaced ignition switch. Vehicle worked fine until Sunday, January 23rd. Went to start vehicle and one again, nothing happened, no lights, no starter - nothing. Key also locked in steering column. Dealer towed vehicle the next day. Dealer could find nothing wrong, theorized an interior light was left on (but I know it wasn't). Dealer replaced some engine fan they theorize was turning on after engine turned off and draining battery - I told them that's fine but doesn't explain why truck will start days after an initial failure. This intermittent failure is frightening as it seems to be a possible part of a larger system failure - as noted on this website by other owners - when the Trailblazer will fail at high speeds on the highway. (reference odi id numbers & ).

Chevy TrailBlazer won&#;t start &#; causes and how to fix it

Chevy TrailBlazer is a reliable road companion, but its a machine with hundreds of interconnected parts, and like any other machine it sometimes fail to deliver normal operation. In this article we go through most common causes of TrailBlazer&#;s breakdown and how you can fix the problem.

The most common causes that hinders normal starting operation of your TrailBlazer are dead key fob battery, dead 12v battery, corrosion on battery terminals, bad alternator, clogged fuel filter, broken starter, blown fuse, empty gas tank, immobilizer error or any fault in the electrical system.

1. Weak Battery

If your TrailBlazer&#;s engine won&#;t crank or cranks very slowly, then the most likely culprit is a weak or dead 12v battery. Investigating more closely and doing a battery voltage test will clarify whether the starting problem is due to the battery. A test can be done to measure the voltage between the battery poles, check the acid level and assess the condition of the starter battery.

If a new car battery has been installed, the battery may not have yet reached its full capacity. There is nothing to worry about. A new battery only develops its full capacity over time.

Test 12v battery

The voltage of the battery on your Chevy TrailBlazer can be measured precisely with a multimeter. Before the test, the multimeter is set to the voltage range of the battery and connected to its plus and minus poles. Successful testing of the car battery, i.e. checking the voltage, usually results in values of approx. 12 to 13 volts. Values above 14 or below volts require an expert assessment of the condition of the car battery. Because the battery may have a defect with these measured values and must be replaced.

Jump start Chevy TrailBlazer

If dead battery is the reason for the breakdown of your TrailBlazer, you can easily jump start it using jumper cables and a healthy battery from another vehicle, or using a battery booster if available.

First connect red cable to the positive terminal of your TrailBlazer&#;s dead battery, then to the positive terminal of donor battery. Next connect black cable to the negative terminal of donor battery, then to the bare metal in the engine bay of your TrailBlazer. Start the donor vehicle and then your TrailBlazer. Remove the cables in reverse order.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is how-to-jump-start-car-illustration.png

2. Corrosion on battery

Corrosion on the contacts of your car battery leads to loss of contact and reduced current flow, which means that your engine can no longer start properly.

To know if your TrailBlazer&#;s starting problems are from dirty battery contacts, you need to investigate them. If you lift the rubber covers over the two battery terminals, you can check the terminals for corrosion. If you discover white deposits or silvery-green deposits, but no further cracks or damage, you do not have to replace the battery, just clean it.

Clean battery corrosion

To clean the battery on your Chevy TrailBlazer, you have to remove the pole cables first, which requires no special knowledge, just a little concentration, as the order is very important. First remove the black cable from the negative pole. If the pole clamp is very tight, you can open it with pliers. We advise against using metal pliers, but if you use them, you must make sure that you do not touch any other parts of the body. Next you can unplug the red positive pole cable. Once the battery has been removed from the circuit, you can start cleaning the corroded battery. After cleaning, reconnect the terminals.

3. Weak key fob battery

If your TrailBlazer has push start/stop button, then its possible that your vehicle may not start due to weak key fob battery. Don&#;t worry, you can still start your vehicle &#; the battery is only used to send the signal for locking/unlocking. If the key fob battery is empty, the door no longer locks or unlocks at the push of a button. The doors must then be opened manually. The immobilizer is controlled by a passive transponder. Passive means, among other things, that the transponder in the key does not need its own power source.

How to start Chevy TrailBlazer with dead key fob battery

If you have a model of TrailBlazer which only has a key fob with start/stop button and no place to insert a key, then try placing your key fob as close to the start/stop button as you can and then start the vehicle. If it doesn&#;t work, then look in your vehicle&#;s operational manual for exact location of key fob placement, as it may vary depending on model.

Tip: You can try starting your TrailBlazer with its second key. It will also rule out any other problem with the first key, for example, water damage.

4. Broken starter motor

A starter is a motor for starting the engine of your TrailBlazer. The average life of a starter motor is about , to , miles, and the life will be shortened if the engine is started more frequently. In any case, since the starter motor also has a limited life, it will break down after using the car for a long time, and if the starter motor breaks down, the engine will not start.

Symptom: When you turn the key to start the engine of your TrailBlazer, you will hear a clicking sound, which is the sound of a bad starter motor. And if the starter motor does not work with a healthy battery, suspect a malfunction of the starter.

If the starter fails, it usually needs to be replaced with a new one.

Temporary fix for starter

If the engine does not start due to the starter, the engine may start if you turn the key while hitting the starter motor with something like a stick or metal tool. This workaround is effective when the parts inside the starter are stuck together or the gears are slightly out of alignment.

However, it is possible that the starter is nearing the end of its life, so it is recommended that you have it inspected at a dealer or maintenance shop.

5. Defective alternator

An alternator is a generator that produces electricity. If your TrailBlazer&#;s alternator fails, it will not be able to produce electricity and the battery will not be able to charge. Therefore, even if you think that the cause of the engine not starting is a battery failure and replace the battery, the battery will soon run out and the engine will not start.

Alternators rarely break down. In particular, modern cars have improved performance, so it is said that they will last , to , miles. Still, it can break down depending on how you use it, and in the case of a used car, the alternator may be quite old. Don’t let your guard down.

If the alternator breaks down, it must be replaced with a new alternator.

6. Clogged fuel filter

The fuel filter of your TrailBlazer does not wear out like a mechanical part, but it gets clogged by dirt and airborne particles and clogs over time. The permeability of the filter drops, and so does the fuel pressure. To a certain extent this doesn’t matter, but if the fuel filter is too dirty, the engine will no longer perform at full capacity and in some instance may not start at all. Cleaning is not possible, you can only change the filter.

7. Fuel pump failure

If your TrailBlazer’s fuel pump fails, then the engine won’t start. The pump normally ensures that the necessary amount of fuel is passed from the tank to the injection system of the engine with sufficient pressure.

Before your fuel pump stops working, it usually becomes noticeable: if your car’s engine breaks down from time to time, the car is difficult to start, the engine jerks a little or the engine performance drops, you should have your pump checked.

Wear or contamination of the pump can be the reason for this. If the pump is leaking, a power contact is broken, a line or a pump lever is broken, the fuel pump is usually also noticeable before failure. You can have a defective fuel pump replaced in your workshop.

8. Blown fuse

In rare cases, a blown fuse could also be the culprit in the breakdown of your TrailBlazer. Check all fuses in the fuse box essential for starting the engine. But, be careful when lending a hand yourself to the fuse box! The box is under power and repairs or tests should always be done in a workshop.

9. Defective spark plugs

Without functioning spark plugs, the engine will not start. The spark plugs themselves are often not affected by a defect. Instead, plug connections on the ignition system come loose. If only one plug is actually loose, you can fix the problem yourself on site. If a spark plug has failed, it must be replaced in the workshop.

Rodent damage

Rodent damage can be another reason why your Chevy TrailBlazer won’t start. The animals crawl under the vehicle and bite through cables and wires. In principle, this can affect all vehicle systems such as the fuel supply, the oil supply or the power supply.

The rodent damage can usually be seen quickly by looking into the engine compartment. The damage caused by the rodent bite can be repaired in the workshop. Be prepared for relatively high costs here.

Engine failure

Although very rare, but it can also be the cause of the breakdown of your TrailBlazer. If a vehicle has an engine failure, then nothing works anymore. It is not uncommon for the driver of a vehicle to be responsible for such damage. Typical causes include tearing of the timing belt, incorrect fueling, insufficient oil, hydrolock, overheating of the engine, or continuous driving in an excessive speed range.

Only an experienced mechanic can diagnose engine failure in a workshop.

Use OBD2 scanner for diagnosis

Since Chevy TrailBlazer is equipped with on-board diagnostics (OBD), a fault diagnosis can provide initial indications of where the malfunction is located.

To begin troubleshooting, you must first connect the diagnostic tool to your TrailBlazer. The OBDII connector is usually located under the dashboard. With the wire connected, you should turn the ignition on. But be careful not to start the engine. Most diagnostic devices then ask for some information about the vehicle. It is important that you enter this % correctly, otherwise the result of the search may be falsified. In addition to the vehicle manufacturer and model, you usually also have to type in the engine and vehicle ID number. For exact troubleshooting, always check whether the information is correct.

There are many reasons why your TrailBlazer may not start. When looking for the trigger, it is advisable to use the exclusion principle and only start with the most obvious cause, the empty battery.

In any case, it is advisable for laypersons to call a breakdown service or a workshop. In the event of a defect, the latter can directly initiate the repair.

Chevrolet Trailblazer - Starter

A starter is an electric motor that engages your flexplate to spin your engine on startup. It includes a bendix, which is a spinning shaft that only extends when starting to mesh the starter gear with the flexplate or flywheel. Many starters also have a built-in solenoid that sends voltage to the starter when the key is turned. The starter or starter solenoid may wear out over time due to heat or contaminants. If you hear clicking but your engine won't turn over, it could be a weak starter motor, or your battery may be dead. If the starter spins but the motor does not, the bendix may not be engaging fully. In either case, the starter should be replaced. If you need a car battery, starter, alternator, or other starting and charging parts, O’Reilly Auto Parts carries the right parts for your repairs.
