@john510

Welcome to the HP Forums,

We'll be with you until it's all sorted & beyond!

Did you know the backlit settings change from model to mode? which means, your device may have just always on or off setting as well.

That said, if you've had auto-turn off on your backlit, you may change the settings using the below steps:

When the backlight is enabled using the key on the keyboard and the backlight stays on for only a few seconds, the backlight timeout setting might need to be configured in the BIOS.

   NOTE:

If there is not a setting for the backlight timing in the BIOS, this behavior may not be supported on the notebook. Check product support documentation to verify.

Your BIOS version and screens might vary.

  1. Restart the computer and immediately press the F10 repeatedly until the BIOS opens.

  2. Navigate to the Advanced tab. Use the arrow keys to navigate in the BIOS.

Use the down arrow key to highlight Built-in Device Options, and then press Enter.

The Advanced tab showing Built-in Device Option highlighted

  3. Use the down arrow key in the Built-in Device Options to select Backlit keyboard timeout.

  4. Press the spacebar to open the keyboard backlight settings. Select the desired setting for timeout of the backlighting.

    Backlit keyboard timeout options

       NOTE:

Selecting Never makes the backlight stay on constantly unless you turn it off with the function key on the keyboard. If it remains on, your battery power could drain quickly.

Hi Rita

I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this . . .

If there is an option to set the timeout for the backlit keyboard, that will not be a Windows 10 setting, it will be a setting created by HP in your BIOS

Only some HP devices have a setting for the Keyboard backlight timeout . . .

Restart the computer and immediately press the F10 repeatedly until the BIOS opens.

Navigate to the Advanced tab in BIOS

Use the down arrow key to highlight Built-in Device Options, and then press Enter.

Use the down arrow key in the Built-in Device Options to select Backlit keyboard timeout.

Press the spacebar to open the keyboard backlight settings.

Set Timeout to never

HP Pavilion 15-p159na - where the keyboard backlight is set for this light?

  • How to disable the keyboard backlight on Portege Z830?

    Hello eyeryone!

I hope someone can help me with the following "problem" on my Z830 backlit keyboard.

The thing is I want to use this function, when it is not necessary, but every time I change my setting of the energy of 'eco' on the keyboard lights up. I would like to disable this feature, so that the LED backlight is only active manually. Does anyone know where this setting can be changed?

The light on the keyboard is not mentioned in the list for the parameters energy and the BIOS option is already set to 'off '.

    Thank you

    Hello Scorpio

I n t have this model of laptop, but I think that the principle is the same as on other laptops.

Start Toshiba Assist > Optimize > HWSetup > and you will find the keyboard backlight options.
    Here you can disable.

    Please, check and send comments.

  • Is it possible to install the keyboard backlight?

HP dv7-4296nr switch the keyboard backlighting of the installation? Because I'm working often in the night, so it is very useful for me, but the current keyboard has no backlight, and I don't want to use an external light to connect via the USB port, because it is very distracting.

    http://h20574.www2.HP.com/default.htm?lang=en&cc=us&hpappid=psml

Access your model as seen in the screenshot.

When you get to the video section, click on "Keyboard" in the left column, yours is very easy.

Make sure you are connected before you click on the video link.

If the link or the video does not work, let me know and I'll post a bunch of screenshots.

At this point, you don't have to remove the real water for the keyboard to the motherboard. Everything we do here is to determine whether there is a connection on the MoBo for the backlight cable.

Look at the pictures of the backlit keyboard by ebay, the connection on the motherboard will coincide with the end of the keyboard cable. Note that the cable for the backlight is a separate cable and is quite small compared to the main keyboard cable.

If there is a cable, and when it comes time to unlock the ZIF connector to remove the keyboard, be very careful not to damage the connector.

The video is very clear, and if you follow his instructions that you have no problem, nothing should be forced. Make sure you and the main keyboard cable is properly aligned before blocking the paw of the ZIF connector.

If the ZIF connector is damaged to the point where the cable will be locked down, he condemns the whole motherboard.

If you don't feel able to do it yourself, then a repair shop can do for you. The procedure is very fast, so it shouldn't cost too much, it will take them only a few minutes to inspect the MoBo to ensure that the connector is there.

You can also find out if the seller has a return policy, just in case.

    ______________________________________________________________________________________

I had a quick glance and I found a picture of your mother board where the backlight cable connection should be. The screenshot shows where it should be, converted red (boxed). If there is no link here, then you're out of luck.

The connection will be similar to the connection of touch pad just below.

  • Configure the keyboard backlight Timeout

Hello, I want to configure the keyboard backlight Timeout on Dell Latitude E6440. I use pre-installed Linux OS Ubuntu 12.04.2 Dell.

I found this post http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/enterprise-client/f/4448/p/19415396/19975858.aspx#19975858 of Warren Byle.

He wrote how to change the keyboard backlight with tool CCTK lighting level. I downloaded CCTK for Red Hat Linux and looks like it works fine on Ubuntu too. With that - token orders that I am able to change the level of backlight on the keyboard which is good.

But I still don't know how to change the keyboard backlight Timeout. Backlight is still off after 10 seconds. Is there some special - token for this timeout setting?

According to other messages, looks like configring timeout to 5 minutes could be possible, as there are Windows applications that could do that (for example Dell System Manager Application checkpoint)

  • Can not activate win 8 error "the key provided is not for this edition of windows, use either windows 8 setup or enter an activation key for windows 8.

OT: Cannot activate win 8 on my laptop due to the change of hard disk.

    Hi all

I have a Samsung np550p5c-s05in and it came installed with 64-bit Windows 8, later, the hard drive developed a few problems and as I had guaranteed him, they were replaced by a new, but this one came with a victory 8 32-bit that is not enabled. Now, I got the product key of victory last 8 I had so I tried using them to activate, but an error came that said something like

"The key provided is not for this edition of windows,

Use the installer of windows 8 or enter an activation key 8 windows. »

So it was logical that the key I had was for a 64-bit win 8, so I installed win 8 64 bits of an image file and then I repeated the same procedure to enter the key and the same error came once again.

I would ask so you people to please help me with this, because I have no idea whatsoever what to do next.

    Thanks in advance,

    SamizZy

All laptops with preinstalled Windows 8.1 are OEM version of the product that are modified by computer makers. You cannot activate a product of retail of Windows 8 with an OEM key.

When get you the computer from the computer. I suggest that you create a recovery disk to help you in the future.

When you try to import photos I get an error that says: Preview is not available for this file. The files are JPEG files. I use Lightroom CC help?

Some additional information. I received these photos of my granddaughter of my son with Dropbox. I checked the files under properties and found that they were listed as "some blocked properties" so I checked the box to 'unlock' and click on apply. The blocked message went away. Then, I took the original photos out of the folder of file they were in. I went back to LR and made sure those grey boxes with the Preview is not available for this file was missing. Then I went to the new files with the status of unlock in a new folder and tried to import into LR... same thing happens again! UGH

    Hi rsobieski,

Could you please copy the images of Dropbox in a new folder on the computer/pictures folder.

Also, then try again to import images into Lightroom and also please check if you have read and write permissions on the images.

The motherboard has the additional connector, but I need to confirm with you: [Motherboard | http://i732.photobucket.com/albums/ww321/maliaros/th_20140527_1532171.jpg]

    Hello

    > Also, I found some vendors on ebay sell the keyboard for half as much as the Distributor and I'd like to know what you reccoment.

In many cases the different keyboard would be consistent, since most of them are supported the same hardware specifications.

With regard to the additional keyboard connector:
AFAIK the backlight keyboard must be connected to the additional connector called * JBLG *.
But to be honest, I have not found in on the photo that you placed in the post.

    Hello

Could you tell me if the keyboard on this laptop is backlit? And if so, how do I activate it?

    Kind regards

    Hello

No, as far as I know that this model of laptop is equipped with a common A4 + 10key standard plate black keyboard.

Usually the backlight on the keyboard could be enabled or disabled by pressing FN + Z key.
But I think that this will not work because it s no keyboard backlight.

  • Sours: https://www.eehelp.com/question/hp-pavilion-15-p159na-where-the-keyboard-backlight-is-set-for-this-light/

Backlit keyboards are something you never truly appreciate unless you have to work without one. If you’re working in a well-lit area, you won’t notice it much. In the dark, however, or in poor lighting, a backlit keyboard lets you type comfortably.

But backlit keyboards don’t stay On all the time.

The light times out usually after 5-10 seconds if you don’t use your keyboard or touchpad.

To turn the light on again, you have to tap any key or tap your touchpad. If you find the timeout counterproductive, you can set your backlit keyboard to always on. This has its limitations foremost of which is the make of your laptop.

Windows doesn’t have a built-in option to control the backlit keyboard on a laptop. It’s up to the device manufacturer to provide it. If the manufacturer doesn’t have an option to set the backlit keyboard to always on, you are out of luck.

On both Dell and HP laptops, you can set your backlit keyboard to always on. If you have a Dell laptop, you even control the time-out duration.

    HP Backlit Keyboard

The backlit keyboard on an HP laptop works in three states; off, time-out, and always on.

You can toggle the state via the keyboard light button. It’s pictured below. When you tap it, it toggles through its three states. Of course, the only way to tell which state it’s in is to wait and see if the light turns off.

On some HP laptops, you can go to the BIOS and change this setting. Open your HP BIOS and go to the Advanced Settings tap.

If there’s a Built-in Device Options menu there, you will find keyboard settings under it that allow you to set your backlit keyboard to always on.

    Dell Backlit Keyboard

Out of the box, a Dell laptop doesn’t let you set your backlit keyboard to always on. Dell has a dedicated driver that you can install to control the backlit keyboard. It’s called Dell Feature Enhancement Pack Application and you can download it from Dell’s website.

You don’t need to install all components in this driver. Select the Custom install option and install only the Keyboard and Devices component.

Once installed open Control Panel and go to Hardware and Sound. You will see an option called ‘Dell Keyboard Backlight Settings‘. Click it. In the window that opens, go to the Backlight tab.

Here you can change the timeout duration, or set it to always on by selecting the ‘Never‘ option.

The brightness slider at the bottom may or may not be of any use. It’s likely only useful on select laptops.

Will this do? Oh, I contacted HP support and was duly informed that the backlight turning off is a "feature" to maintain the battery. I am using this laptop connected to AC power so I am not concerned about saving the battery.

It's my computer and I want the backlight to stay on for longer than 15 seconds. That isn't a feature, for me, when working at night, it's an annoyance that is intolerable. This computer was cheap enough that if I can fix this I'll keep it. Otherwise I'll send it back to HP and find something else that I can modify to suit my personal preferences.

My experience level: PC gamer, custom spec PC that is on it's second case, third GPU, second set of RAM, second power supply and fifth or sixth keyboard / mouse.
